110: Online Programs & Coaches- What to Consider Feb 21, 2019
    Show notes

Recently, a very popular online influencer is under fire for scamming thousands of women out of the services they paid for which has amounted to well over $1million dollars of services paid for and never rendered. For someone like myself, as well as other online coaches and business owners with a lot of integrity, this leaves a really bad taste in our mouths- as I'm sure it does for lots of consumers. Buying from anyone online requires (at least it should!) a lot of trust. So, what should you look out for before you spend the time and money on an online program or coach? This episode walks you through some of the things that you may have never even thought of before- INCLUDING: -make sure whoever you're hiring is not only credentialed, but qualified AND -make sure they're not selling their genetics as something they can coach you through- THIS IS A BIG ONE! Full transparency: I *do* have an online program launching to the public soon. I *do* make a portion of my living coaching women online. And I feel that it is my duty to serve each of them from a place of honesty, integrity, passion, and lots of love. You can read more about The Confidence Collective here. 109: Things Your In-Person Trainer Should Be Asking You Feb 19, 2019
    Show notes

I realize I've done a bad job on educating everyone on what working with a trainer in person SHOULD be like. I've done a good job of saying "not all trainers are created equal"- but other than that, I haven't shed enough light on what it should actually be like. While this episode is biased, there is a ton of info in there that you should consider prior to hiring an in-person trainer. And it's important to note- that a GOOD trainer might just be starting out- in which case, she is still learning. I wasn't *always* in tune with the things I talk about in this episode- and without enough time and exposure under my belt, I never would have gotten to where I am today. So, if you're a trainer just starting out- you're supposed to be new at this! I hope this sets the tone for you to want to continue to strive for more. 108: Be Your Own Valentine & A Different Approach to Self-Care Feb 14, 2019
    Show notes

I feel like Valentine's Day is just so... weird. Especially if you buy into the hype. You're either under pressure to do something or expect something romantic from your partner or you're participating in what feels like an obligatory "I love being single" meme-fest and measuring your bed to see how many cats you can *really* have at once. But, what if you were your own damn Valentine all year long? Regardless of whether or not you're in a relationship, the relationship you have with yourself will set the tone for every other relationship in your life- romantic or not. What if you invested just as much time into yourself as you did in everything else? While I don't think my relationship "advice" in this episode is paramount by any means, the self-care advice is spot on. Don't you just feel like the self-care realm has been ruined by Instagram? Self-care doesn't just mean face-masks and bubble baths (although it could totally be that, too!) so, I share a ton of different acts of self care. Take what works and trash what doesn't. Did you make it to the end of the episode? Grab your little V-day gift from me here or by going to bit.ly/CoffeeWithChristina and don't forget to send me your pics!!! I can't wait to see <3 <3 <3

107: What the Marie Kondo Method Isn't Teaching You Feb 12, 2019
    Show notes

So, if you haven't been living under a rock, you've seen a wave of people "Marie Kondo-ing" their lives. They're organizing their stuff, throwing things away, and trying to hold inanimate objects to discover what brings them joy. But, why did we get so disorganized in the first place? Why do we have so much stuff? The way I see it, if you did the Marie Kondo method- it should be for the last time. But like with most of the things that we partake in- we aren't ever encouraged to figure out what the cause of the issue is. You see, the Marie Kondo method is great. However, it addresses a symptom. And for everyone, the cause will be different. Why do you have so many clothes? Why is your life so overwhelmingly cluttered or scattered? Why do you keep buying more stuff? Many of of these things are habits at this point- habits that bring us closer to some sort of comfort, whether that's the comfort of over-accumulating STUFF, trying to dress a body we hate but are desperately trying to love, or trying to prove something to someone, or even to ourselves. Debt is similar to this in nature. It's a habit. And you can read any and all "get out of debt" books that you can sink your teeth into and yet- we're only addressing symptoms. You keep digging yourself into debt for a reason, and if no one is asking you what the cause is to your debt-as-a-symptom- you'll get into and out of debt one million times over, just like you'll Marie Kondo your house ten million times.

106: The Real Deal with Healthy Hacks Feb 05, 2019
    Show notes

How much time and energy have you wasted scrolling through Pinterest trying to find healthy alternatives for your favorite foods? You head to the store with the ingredients for SUPER HEALTHY cookies because these somehow feel safer, better, cleaner, and let's be real- cause you less anxiety and guilt when you eat them, right? Right. So what's the deal with healthy hacks anyway? Is there any validity? What's the point? At some point, you'll realize that there is likely a compensatory response to your never-ending quest of finding the 'healthiest' alternative to your favorite foods. Those compensatory responses can either be: -Bingeing on food (that you've deemed healthy or not) -fear and anxiety around foods that you don't feel are healthy enough -you end up eating the "real" thing anyway because you realize all of your diet-friendly food actually tastes like ass and doesn't take the edge off quite like you'd hoped long term But should your diet (noun) be comprised of nothing but the least nutritious foods? No. Absolutely not. And this is a fine line to walk, and it's hard! I get it, I really do. In today's episode, I walk you through the real deal with healthy hacks. -Should you be making oatmeal, banana, raisin cookies instead of just having some regular Chips Ahoy cookies or Girl Scout cookies? -How to create your own discernments around what foods are worth it to you and which aren't -How diets turn into subcultures and none of them make sense hello@christinamontalvo.com or send me a DM on IG @christina_montalvo

I hear from women ALL OF THE TIME that "I just need to snack less." ...but do you? 103: Alcohol and Intuitive Eating Jan 22, 2019
    Show notes

A listener wrote in and asked: "Alcohol.. since listening to my body more, I've been consuming less alcohol. I may still order it out, or not, but I only sometimes finish my drink. In the past, especially in college, I had this mentality that alcohol should never be wasted and always be finished. There is also such a social pressure component to consume it at parties or out with friends, and there are certainly times where you may not feel up to it or have a tummy ache or what not." So, how do you navigate drinking? In today's episode, I talk a bit about my party days. I left out enough information that my parents wouldn't hang their heads in shame (ha!) but I also give you enough details to shed some light on my former party-girl days. Don't you worry though, the drinking didn't stop after college. It spilled over into my adult life for quite some time until I finally got a handle on what was important to me. If you're like me, you think that at some random age, the peer pressure to stop drinking just... stops. It doesn't. Adults more than twice my age continue to pressure me into taking shots on shots on shots. And I talk exactly about how I chose to navigate this. At the end of the day, your body is always telling you what to do. And it's up to you to figure out what feels best and above all, it's up to you to align your actions with your goals. 102: Taking Up Space & Staying In Your Own Lane (Worry About Yourself!) with Stephanie Lippincott Jan 17, 2019
    Show notes

This is SUCH an important conversation for you to tune into! Stephanie and I talk about her journey to finding health after a health scare she had years ago. Despite what the fitness industry and societal gym culture has taught us all- finding wellness and health is not a one-size-fits-all journey. We also cover: -Worry about yourself & staying in your own lane -The different seasons of our lives and how honoring where we are matters most -Why even the best intentioned comments on other people's bodies or fitness activities can be damaging -Sometimes sitting in a big, comfy chair to cry is a perfectly acceptable personal training session -Each day do SOMETHING for yourself, even if it means resting, but never give up.
