121: Having sex with the lights on, not hiding your tampons, talking about poop, and other ways to F the Patriarchy Apr 04, 2019
    Show notes

How many times have you hidden your tampons? I know, it sounds silly- but it's just one form of oppression that women endure as a part of our patriarchal society. Like "Oh! I'M SORRY FOR MAKING *YOU* UNCOMFORTABLE WITH *MY* TAMPON!" No. I'm uncomfortable because I have my period, which is normal- by the way- and I refuse to hide my feminine products anymore in an effort to be "more lady like." Other things I refuse to conform to are: feeling pressure about looking a certain way when having sex, feeling like I need to hide my body by turning the lights off, or never being able to talk about poop because "women don't poop" because it disrupts the over-sexualized fantasy that men have about women. Listen- I poop. And so do you. And it doesn't make me any less worthy or attractive if I talk about poop. Or my period. I don't expect this episode to jive with a lot of women- as in most cases, women are also so consumed by conforming to the patriarchy and are oblivious to its oppressive nature. I am not telling you to start farting at the dinner table. Nor am I telling you to wield your tampon around like a sword in Target (although, that does actually sound kind of fun). What I am telling you is to pay attention to the ways that some things that we feel are "normal" and "expected" of women are coming from OPPRESSION. I don't know about you, but I do not exist just to please men- or anyone, really. To the men out there who are dating, married to, supportive of, or raising strong girls and women- thank you. I reference this previous episode where Jessica of Wholly Healed talked about why women compete with other women.

120: Get It Together! A Time Management Episode Apr 02, 2019
    Show notes

I know, I know- you're sick of hearing "we all have the same 24 hours in the day." Honestly- we don't. If you commute really far to work, have young kids, are a single parent, or working two full-time jobs to make ends meet, are a caretaker to someone who is sick- your day is PACKED and your energy is in the tank. I GET IT! That's not who this episode is for. This episode is for the people who truly believe they have no time... but they do. I worked with a woman once who swore to high heaven that she had no time. She was just soooo busy. Too busy to go grocery shopping on the weekends, too busy to go for a walk after work. Yet, each and every week, she'd tell me about the shows she was caught up on- sometimes even 16-hour Netflix benders on both Saturday AND Sunday! Lady, you've got the time- you just don't have the priorities. I'm not saying you have to want to spend your time like I do. Hell, you don't have to spend your time any differently at all if you don't want to! But! But... if you keep saying that you wish you could do "xyz" but you "don't have the time"- then this episode is for you. I am all about setting pretty lofty goals. I am also a glutton for pain in that I seem to like to keep myself pretty busy (check my real life schedule out- the link is below!) but these goals require commitments, sacrifices, and some pretty crafty time management skills. Aside from that, in this episode, I cover why it's hard to prioritize our time that's conducive to our goals. It's not because you're lazy, it's actually something far more complex than that! I'm not a lazy person by any means, but I can't seem to "find the time" to wash my hair OR stay super organized. Why is that!? Tune in to this episode to find out what's stopping you from doing the things that you want to do- especially if you catch yourself often saying "I don't have time!" You can grab your time-management templates here then following the instructions that pop up once you click the link!

119: Financial Freedom with Millennial Money Coach Chloe of Deeper Than Money Mar 28, 2019
    Show notes

I know, I know- why am I so obsessed with talking about money on the podcast? Because, just like with food, it is something that every human needs- whether we like to admit it or not. If you're anything like I was, you have negative associations with budgeting and managing your finances, & you feel that wanting to make money and be financially secure is only for rich, snobby people. Until I chose to change my relationship with money, I ran around telling everyone about how I broke I was, how awful my business was doing, and how much of a struggle my life was. It's not that my actual financial situation has changed that much- it's just that I got my mind right! Just like with everything over here on The Confidence Project- it's never about *the thing*- it's always how we FEEL about *the thing.* Chloe is going to rock your socks off! She makes talking about money fun instead of stressful and goes into how changing your relationship with money is the first step to creating financial freedom. You're not going to want to miss out! 118: How Your Money Mindset Is Stopping You From More Success with Emily Gough Mar 26, 2019
    Show notes

I speak openly about my financial struggles here on the podcast pretty often. What I've come to learn over the years is that even though at times my financial issues were REAL (like- should I just live out of my car, or?), a lot of them stemmed from a crappy money mindset. As a business owner, it wasn't until I put money (lots of it!) on the line that things shifted for me. But before I set out to change others' lives, I was already investing in my own personal journey. I had coaches, and those coaches were also investing in coaches. There was such a disconnect between what it took to level up my fitness and what it was going to take to level up in my business. I used to think money was SACRED. Make it and hoard it- do not spend it! I used to think that having to pay someone to teach me something or mentor me meant that I sucked because I couldn't do it on my own. All of that just pointed back to a lack of trust in myself, a lack of trust in others, and a crap-ass money mindset. And ultimately, it kept me stuck. What I had to realize was that spending money is just an exchange of energy. The worst part was when I was projecting my own money issues onto my clients. "They can't afford this!" It wasn't until I realized that by keeping my prices "so low" that I was doing them a total disservice. So, how did raising my prices completely transform my clients? How did raising my prices help my clients level up? We have Emily Gough of The Room to Grow podcast on the show today! 117: I Ate Like Shit Yesterday- Now What? Mar 19, 2019
    Show notes

What do you typically do the day after you eat like garbage? How do you even *know* if you ate like garbage? Chances are you use the scale or the mirror to decide "how you ate" the day prior- but what happens if you don't? Then how do you know, right? It can be tough to move away from external forms of feedback to decide if you're eating in a way that serves you- but I can promise you that your body is always telling you how you're doing. In fact, the scale AND the mirror can cloud that judgement. There were days (when the scale was the ONLY barometer for my success) that I would have eaten like crap, the scale would go down (it happens!) and I felt validated to continue to not pay attention to my physical wellness and continue to have days where my eating consisted of nothing but beer and hot wings from the local college bar. It felt like getting away with murder! While my "garbage eating days" no longer consist of $0.89 pitchers of beer and $0.10 hot wings, my gauge for how I'm doing no longer hinges on what I weight or what I look like, but rather- it's all about how I feel physically. Do I have energy? Am I lethargic? Do I feel strong? Am I thriving right now or barely surviving? What's more than that is how we navigate food the following day. If you're anything like I was- the day after a not-so-stellar day of eating would either be a game of "how little food can I get away with today to make up for yesterday" or "OMG- I need to get back on a diet to regain some control!" But, where does that get us? Tune in to hear more about how to dig yourself out of the spiral of pin-balling back and forth between eating "omg so bad" and "omg so good."

115: The Time I Almost Got a Boob Job. No, Really. Mar 12, 2019
    Show notes

On first glance, this episode is just about a boob job that I almost got. But, it's so much more than that. Your exposure to different things is either keeping you stuck agreeing with old narratives in your mind or it is challenging you to think differently. Social media is so ever-present in our daily lives, and its impact on how we feel about ourselves is so great. But we don't give it a second thought. We curate our feeds by following people who we think look better than us, are happier, have more money, and ultimately- who we think are overall just *better* than us. For me, this played out in a lot of ways. One of those things being that for a long, long time- I thought I needed to get a boob job. I needed a boob job to be considered a successful personal trainer. I needed a boob job to finally feel happy about my body. And I needed a boob job to get back at my ex. Then something interesting happened. I started paying attention to OTHER NARRATIVES. I started paying attention to other body types that told different stories. And it changed the game for me. This episode is not about whether or not YOU should consider plastic surgery- it's so much more than that. 113: The Dark Side of Weight Loss Surgery- Part 1 Mar 05, 2019
    Show notes

*Language warning: this one has LOTS of F-bombs... like, more than usual. In today's episode, I talk about possibly the most embarrassing moment of my professional career. I don't know why I thought that I'd resonate with anyone sitting inside of a weight-loss meeting. What I learned was this: I cannot save the world, diet culture and an obsession with weight loss is never, ever, ever going to go away. This episode is raw, real, and as full of emotions as it is full of F-Bombs. Whether or not you're interested in hearing about this topic shared from my personal and professional experience, I highly recommend that you tune into episode 114 where I talk to Danielle about her personal experience with weight loss surgery.
