[BIZ 20] How to handle internet trolls Dec 18, 2019
    Show notes

Starting a business is scary as it is. Someone leaving a nasty, mean, or rude comment on your social media is even harder. I've received them all- from literal death threats, to downright hurtful and mean, to people tagging their friends in my comments section to see how dumb, ugly, or gross I am- I've gotten them all. And my audience is small! YIKES! Does it get worse? Maybe. But I've worked really hard on the mindset that you need to have to handle the inevitable. When you're doing good work, you'll be polarizing- and people will undoubtedly have too much time on their hands. The trolls are coming... are you ready? ;) JK it's not like you need to prepare for battle, but there are a few things you need to consider to handle your first troll! Take a listen :)

    170: Thoughts (and lessons) Before 30 Dec 17, 2019
    Show notes

You can go to christinamontalvo.com to get the list of thoughts from this episode. And here they are below in case you want to see what I cover in this episode: → People will always misunderstand you- do what you want anyway→ Don't live to work, work to live→ Find mentorship & stick with it

    → Be a human-being, not a human-doing

→ Maybe you can't change the world, but you can change yourself- and that's more than enough.→ Ask for more clarity- from others and from yourself→ Understand that most people are just looking out for themselves.→ Closure- it happens between you and yourself, not between you and someone else.→ Someone else's perception of me has nothing to do with me.→ It really is the process, never the goal.→ filter your life more than you filter your IG→ no amount of accomplishment matters if you're out of alignment→ maybe nothing is your fault, but it's your responsibility→ get to the bottom of your self-worth issues or it'll keep popping up like the Pennywise red balloon→ take more days off. Buy less shit- pay for more experiences. Do more of nothing. Find what recharges your soul- and you don't owe anyone an explanation for this, either.→ use fear as your barometer- scared to do something? Probably means you should do it. → I don't think any of us have it all figured out.

169: Bad Body Image Days- what they mean and how to handle them Dec 04, 2019
    Show notes

We all have them- days, and sometimes even weeks where we are just so annoyed, grossed out, or even pissed off about what we look like. There's a lot to consider when we have bad body image days. Some of those things are: -They're normal. If someone never has a bad body image day they are probably dead or dying. I don't say this to be dramatic or coy- but that's how important our bodies have been made to feel. -It's actually not about your body. (You'll have to tune in to see what I mean.) -What do you do when you have a bad hair day? Cut it all off? Your body is no different.

167: Did your mom ruin your body image? Nov 19, 2019
    Show notes

HELMET EPISODE! You're going to need one for this one. Our body image story and our relationship with food is buried DEEP. Under hundreds if not thousands of layers of years worth of stories, social conditioning, and self-confirming biases that make us all feel what we've been taught to be true: our body is bad and must be managed AND our body and appearance is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing about us. Key word: taught. Some people are taught how to eat with chopsticks, others are taught how to use a fork- in my early 20's, I learned how to use chopsticks properly. All of this to say, we can learn new things. And we can unlearn things that don't serve us. Remember that time I told you all my money-relationship story? I learned that money was bad and people with money were bad. Is this true? No way. I had to unlearn it- that thought, particularly as a business owner, is NOT helpful to me in any way. But it felt so true. It was a part of my learned familial value system- and I had a choice: unlearn the garbage that wasn't serving me or hate people with money, stay broke for my entire life by mismanaging my money, not charging enough, and using this to gather evidence that proved my belief: MONEY IS BAD. But, what kind of life is that? The same is true with our bodies. Our beliefs don't serve us. Sit with your beliefs for a moment- how do they feel? Do they make you want to expand and lean into your life or hide, contract, and cry in a corner? Exactly. We must unlearn this things. And it's emotional, it's hard work, and it doesn't start out feeling warm and fuzzy- it starts out feeling SO DAMN UNCOMFORTABLE. But on the other end of digging these things up is a freedom you never knew you had access to, a freedom you never knew you had the right to experience. First, we have to identify where we learned this from. And in most cases? From our parents. Then it gets buried under decades worth of more evidence and social-priming that makes it feel absolutely, without a doubt irrefutable. But we have to go deep. Today, we're talking about how your parents' relationship to their own body and food impacted you. And you can take this however you want- begin undoing your own self-worth and body-image story, and/or make damn sure you're not passing on generations worth of bullshit onto your children. You've got your work cut out for you- we all do. Diet Culture Drop Out is making a comeback as a self-study course. 166: Earn Your Easy- expectation management for when things feel tough Nov 13, 2019
    Show notes

Have you ever watched someone do something and you think to yourself "it can't be THAT hard!"? ...then you do it, and you're frustrated that it IS hard? Then you attach some BS story to it feeling hard and want to quit? Yeah, that's expectation mismanagement, and it usually comes from a lack of understanding of what it actually takes to be good at something, what it actually takes to make something "look" easy. When someone knows the ins-and-outs of something, they're able to correctly manage your expectations. If someone ever told me that "running a business is easy", I'd have to assume that they have NEVER ran a business themselves. If someone told me that push-ups were easy, I'd have to assume that they don't actually know the ins-and-outs of what a pushup ACTUALLY is. It's not just "push yourself up and down off the ground"- it's more like "make sure you're breathing, core is activated, glutes are tight, quads are squeezed, hands are underneath your shoulder joint, wrists stacked underneath elbows at the top, elbows go back behind you like an arrow, NOT out to the sides like a T-shape. Exhale as you push the ground away..." and THEN comes the actual trouble-shooting. What if someone's pushup form is GARBAGE? Now what? Someone who doesn't know enough about how to teach to a push-up (or anything!) will be unable to teach it. The problem with this is that it mismanages your expectations. You're thinking "GOD! This person is telling me it's just push yourself UP off the ground!" And the truth it, it's not that simple- and across the board, almost NOTHING is that simple. Almost nothing is inherently EASY. Here's the thing- you have to earn your right for something to feel easy. You have to earn your right to be able to make push-ups look easy, you have to earn your right for business to look easy- you have to earn your easy for almost every single thing you'll ever try. It's not supposed to be easy- if it were? Everyone would do it- whatever "it" is. So you get to decide. Do you want *that thing* bad enough that you're willing for it to be hard? Are you willing to fight and earn your "easy"?
