[biz 40] The Real Deal with Instagram Reels Oct 13, 2020
    Show notes

Instagram Reels.... the 15 second video clip feature causing the most anxiety and dread in my DMs over the past few weeks. In today's episode, I'm breaking down why Instagram is such a powerful social media tool and why you should consider using most (if not all) of its offered features. When Instagram puts something front and center on its app, it's essentially telling you "we think this is important- use it!" So many online business owners are taking the rapid changes and additions to social media personally. I hate to break it to you, but welcome to online business. The internet world changes quickly, and it will never stop changing. While you do not have to keep up with every single new trend out there, it's important for you to decide what makes the most sense for you, what's worth exploring, and what's worth working around or ignoring completely. But when the Instagram app slaps Reels dead front and center on its app- they're serving you it's importance on a silver platter. If you knew that using IG reels could expand your reach, impact, and influence, are you still willing to throw a tantrum about it and not use them? This is a choice. And it's a fine choice, but you have to own your choices no matter what. You have to be reel (LOL) with yourself. Taking responsibility for your business would sound less like "ugh. This is so annoying! I am not doing this!" and more like: "I am choosing to not do IG reels and I'm totally OK with whatever implications come with that." Am I promising you anything massive if you decide to start experimenting with IG reels? No. Of course not. But what's the alternative? The alternative is that you never tried, therefore, you'll never know. Truly, what do you have to lose? This episode also breaks down some of the questions I've been getting about reels.

Do you have to dance? Do you have to point? Do they have to be funny? Do you have to post one every single day? What's the best strategy for approaching reels? Tune in to hear all about it :)

211: The Most Common Misconceptions of Intuitive Eating Oct 09, 2020
    Show notes

Episode 210 of the show talks about some reasons why you may be unwilling to try Intuitive Eating, and one of those reasons is that the misconceptions of Intuitive Eating are far more popular and ever-present than what is true about Intuitive Eating. Today's episode goes over some of the most popular misconceptions of Intuitive Eating. Here's the reader's digest version of today's show: -You think you will gain weight infinitely if you begin eating intuitively. -You think it means you're eating whatever you want, whenever you want, forever and ever the end (and part of you thinks you might already be doing that- LOL)

-You think it means you abandon your health and any health-promoting behaviors

-You think you're an intuitive eater because you don't use the scale but rather you use progress photos and measurements -You think you'll never stop eating Tune in to learn more!

[biz 39] Plan for Profit Oct 04, 2020
    Show notes

You feel gross about what you charge for one million reasons. You question it, you wrestle with it, and you feel like you're constantly having to explain and rationalize why you charge what you charge. You're like "wait. Everyone else I know makes $27 an hour in their corporate job, so why the hell do I think I'm so much better than them and where do I think I can get off charging literally 4x more per hour than they make? Right? I know. Trust me, I've been there. You're also tired, burnt out, and REALLY questioning why you started a business for one million reasons. You're also like "how can someone be charging this much money per hour and still feel like it's not enough!?" One of those reasons is because the way you're thinking about each payment that comes your way is.... wrong. The rates you charge are NOT what you are pocketing- and if it is, if you're treating each payment from a client like it's your income, we're headed for some serious trouble. This episode walks you through exactly what to do when you receive a payment from a client and explains exactly why you should no longer feel shame, guilt, or any sort of morality associated with your prices. In fact, this episode will (hopefully) encourage you to charge more! And you won't even wonder why. You'll know exactly why it's time to raise your rates- and unlike other business coaches out there- it's not simply because you're "charging what you're worth" (eye roll) it's because you're acting like a business owner now. After this episode, you will have a massive advantage over other business owners who are still operating like employees of their business, and you will no longer feel the need to charge anything less than what exactly is required of you in order to maintain the financial health and YOU and your business. You'll want a pen and paper handy for this one!

210: Reasons You're Unwilling to Explore Intuitive Eating Sep 29, 2020
    Show notes

Episode #2 of the Intuitive Eating Series is here! We're curating your entire Intuitive Eating experience on the show so that everything you need to know is easy to find within a specific set of episodes. In today's episode, we're breaking down a few potential reasons why you're still not invested in Intuitive Eating. Here are just a few of the bullet points from today's show: - you don't understand what Intuitive Eating is and is not. -you may already think you are an Intuitive Eater... and you're not, due to a massive misunderstanding thanks to the fact that misinformation spreads farther and wider than actual information - you are fat-phobic. You are afraid of gaining weight, judge others that are in bodies that are larger than yours, etc. - all of your worth, success, and happiness hinges upon what you look like.

-you believe the goal of IE is to end up on TLC's "my 600 pound life." -you think you'll never stop eating. Did you know that clinically diagnosed binge eaters actually stop binge eating when they actively participate in Intuitive Eating? Yes. - you believe your body is a problem and all of your life's issues would be rectified if you looked differently/weighed differently.

-you may have a full blown clinical eating disorder and/or wildly disordered when it comes to your relationship with food and your body -you use dieting and your obsession with your body as a control and coping mechanism for traumas; also as a distraction tool to avoid the REAL problems in your life. As long as your feel your body and food is the problem, you don't have to really pay attention to anything else in your life. AKA dieting is the most socially acceptable adult pacifier.

Tune in to hear the rest!

209: Disordered Eating: Red Flags You Should Look Out For Sep 22, 2020
    Show notes

Trigger warning: this episode talks about red flags of disordered eating and eating disorders. Disordered eating and clinical eating disorders aren't always the same thing- these things fall along a continuum. The goal of this episode is to help you identify for yourself if you are engaged in disordered thoughts and behaviors when it comes to your weight, body, exercise, and food. Unfortunately, there's a good chance it won't resonate with you. You may listen to all of the things listed in this episode and cling tight to the notion that you are simply dedicated to your health and doing what is required of you to stay fit and healthy. Know that I, too, was once stuck where you are. I know for a fact that at the height of my obsession with my weight, I hid it behind a really convenient excuse: "I'm just being healthy." The thing is, I didn't even realize I was hiding my obsession behind anything. It felt true. It sounded true. If you find any sort of defensiveness come up in this episode, know that we feel defensive for two reasons: 1) we agree AND SIMULTANEOUSLY 2) HOLD SHAME. Any sort of combative thought or defense mechanisms that pop up for you while listening to this episode is another great red flag (not mentioned in this episode) that you are steeped in disorder. Know that this episode is meant to help you. We cannot heal what we are not aware of. So while this may be a triggering episode, we need to bring your disordered thoughts and behaviors into the light so we can look at them. Once we're aware, we can begin to heal. _______________ Helpful Episodes to Reference: Episode 154: Why You Might Be Gaining Weight Right now Episode 155: Why Your Body Image Sucks Right Now

208: Lifting without the urgency of weight loss Sep 15, 2020
    Show notes

You've done it, you know you have. You decide you're going to lose weight so you start some sort of challenge or commit to some sort of "new lifestyle" in which you are expected to "stick to the plan" hell or high water so that you can have a "good" weigh-in and have "good" progress photos. But what happens after you drop out of diet culture? Do you stop lifting? Do you want to keep lifting but find that you're not as "motivated"? First, motivation is not a reliable source of get shit done. Even when you thought you were motivated to workout in order to lose weight... that wasn't motivation. That was FEAR. That was shame. That was guilt. That is not motivation. So, now that you've dropped out of the weight-loss rat race, are you finding that you're more likely to skip your workouts because there's no urgency? You likely know that lifting is important. You probably know that it's important to you. Yet, you might be finding you're having a hard time staying committed. Today's episode is straight from a Facebook live from inside The Barbell Collective. In this episode I talk about why lifting is non-negotiable for a life well-lived as well as how your perfectionism and all-or-nothing thinking is likely the thing that's holding you back all together.

[biz 38] creating content vs. talking about your offers Sep 13, 2020
    Show notes

WHOA- did you know that your content and talking about your offers are two totally different things? Yes. And if you don't know the difference, there's a good chance you're confused as to why people like your content but aren't hiring you or buying your programs or products. Content can and should support your offer- but content in and of itself does not bring in revenue. Someone can love your content but not be interested in your offer (your paid stuff) and the reverse can be true! Someone can not really love your content but love your offer- so they buy from you! In this episode, I break down some of the differences between your content and your offers. Here is an example from my own business that may help when trying to tease this apart for yourself and your business: -Content example: 3 reasons why you can't land clients -Offer: In 8 weeks, you will be able to write sales pages, posts, and create stories that speak straight to your ideal clients so that you can finally begin to bring in consistent revenue. In order to make sales, you need to talk about your offers. So many people obsess over creating content and think "my gosh, I've been working so hard on my online business and I can't seem to get any sales!" Exactly. Because content creation is not how you make money. It's a part of it, and YES, your content should support your offers- but, the two things are different. You may shy away from talking about your offers because you're obsessed with vanity metrics. Here's the thing: offer-based posts will simply not get as many likes or as much engagement. So if you're obsessed with things like that (likes, comments, followers, etc) there's a good chance you'll keep creating content that "works" and forego the entire component that actually makes you a BUSINESS which is REVENUE and ultimately PROFIT. 207: Tips for Getting Out of a Funk Sep 08, 2020
    Show notes

2020 has been on big funk, hasn't it? If you're feeling a little gloomy, this episode is for you. The caveat is that if you're feeling really down and out of sorts, it can feel impossible to want to try anything that might make you feel better. If that's you, I see you and I feel you. However, I'm going to challenge you to try just one of these things mentioned in today's episode. Some of the things I mention in this episode that have helped me begin to get out of my funk are: -Finishing my showers with COLD water (a slightly modified version of a contrast shower) -Planned Spontaneity (totally an oxymoron, but I swear it helps!) I go into tons of different ways to incorporate this into your life without it being some massively complicated overhaul -Purge your closets

-Clean out your refrigerator (sounds strange, I know!) -Rearrange your furniture/decor -Wear something new to work; try a new lipstick; try a different hairstyle -Social media & news detox with permission to watch your favorite movie/show -Get your heart rate up (exercise)

I also break down why doing things like this are important and give you a whole lot more context as to how you can incorporate these things into your day. I promise they'll make you feel better!

[biz 37] Should You Do Sales Calls? Aug 12, 2020
    Show notes

Should you do sales calls? Maybe? It depends.

    I personally do not.

Will it slow down the growth of your business?

    Maybe?

Maybe not. In this episode, I answer an Instagram DM about whether or not sales calls are necessary in order to grow your online business and/or if feeling gross about sales calls is a mindset issue or not. I tell you all about how I feel about sales calls and why maybe you don't need them after all- or maybe you do!- it depends. Tune in to hear more!

[biz 36] BOUNDARIES: The life changing magic in life and business Aug 06, 2020
    Show notes

GET ON THE WAITLIST MENTIONED AT THE END OF THE EPISODE HERE (aka the Biz Beehive! so if you're already in the beehive, you're good!) _________________ I can guarantee you're lacking boundaries. In your personal life... and definitely in your business. Even if you have a few boundaries in place, I'd be willing to bet there's still room for improvement. What's a boundary? A commitment to yourself FOR yourself.

One great way to know you're lacking sufficient boundaries? RESENTMENT. Resenting your job? Resenting the time it's taking you to run your business? Resenting a specific client? BOUNDARIES. You need more boundaries, you need better communication, you need more alignment, and you need to get over this idea that women with boundaries are less altruistic or "mean" in some way.

Another way to think about boundaries in your business is POLICIES. Policies within a business keep YOU (the business owner) safe. Your time is kept safe, your intellectual property is safe, your income is safe, your sanity is safe. Do you feel your time is not yours? That your clients dictate how and when you're working? SET MORE BOUNDARIES and manage their expectations. Are you regularly annoyed that you seem to consistently rescind on your commitments to yourself in your personal life? For example, you tell yourself that you're going out for one drink so that you can get to bed on time and wake up early to get extra work done.... and yet you find yourself getting home at 2am and you're annoyed with your friends/with yourself for seemingly never having control over how your time is spent? BOUNDARIES. A boundary-heavy person is a happy person. You can't set boundaries or uphold them for yourself for a few reasons- here are two: 1) YOU'RE A PEOPLE PLEASER

    2) YOU'RE FULL OF SCARCITY MINDSET.

Ask yourself why it's more important for other people to like you versus making sure you LIKE YOURSELF.

Ask yourself why managing others' experience of you is more important than your experience of yourself.

Ask yourself why someone else's desires are more important than yours.

In this episode, I reference a previous episode that's definitely worth your while: [Biz 30] Letting Go To Make Room for More
