    Warm-Ups vs Working Sets Oct 25, 2022
    Show notes

"Always, always, always work-up to your working weight." I find myself writing this note weekly to the members of The Barbell Collective, my online strength and conditioning program for women. Warm-ups and work-up sets can feel like a waste of time but they're not. I often find myself reminding clients NOT to skip them. Today's episode explains the utility of a warm-up and the differences between movement prep, work-up sets, and working sets.

Eat Less + Move More- why you might feel like crap Oct 07, 2022
    Show notes

The most popular formula for weight loss and health is eat less + move more. But what if I told you that's a physiological disaster, especially for women?

Since weight loss and fitness are not the same thing, a more nervous-system friendly way to lose weight (if that's what you're after) would be to eat less + move less. But, is that what you're truly after? Tune in to find out & see what your options might be.

[biz 64] Two Things I Wish I Did Sooner In My Personal Training Business Jun 24, 2022
    Show notes

    TL;DL:

    1. Hire help sooner.

    Why I didn't:

-I truly was not making enough money -I didn't know enough about the difference between profit, revenue, and my paycheck -I thought it "meant I was successful" because I had to work all of the time, so I didn't see it as a problem. I thought that meant I was "doing it right."

    2. Carve out times for small group classes ASAP

Why I didn't: I kinda did do this right away, but still- I wish I had done it sooner. It took me a couple years to get it right, and the longer I waited, the tricker it became to move 1:1 client sessions around to accommodate for the small group. This ultimately became the foundation upon which I would build my gym, but we'll cover that in a future episode.

    _____________________________

I mention the book "Profit First" by Mike Michalowicz. If you're working on gaining a better understanding of your business financials, this can be a great place to start. However, I personally feel the book could have been a PDF, and for the personal trainer, it makes things slightly more complicated than they need to be. It can still be a really good place to start!

236: how to take care of yourself and why we don't know how Jun 17, 2022
    Show notes

    My most often-cited quote is:

"Whatever size and shape your body takes when you're taking the best care of yourself is the size and shape your body is meant to be."

So few women seem to be able to understand what that actually means. And it's because we have no idea what it means to take care of ourselves.

This episode explores multiple intersections, like: -the patriarchal oppression of the female body and the war on women -racism and the fear of bigness as a rejection of Blackness -what I took away from watching a wild animal documentary and why I believe we are no different from wild female lions -what happens to "women in captivity" -women are not sold pleasure or joy... what we're sold instead and why it's a problem -what it means to be a wild woman

all to help you learn how to take care of yourself as a woman in this world... because we've never, ever been taught. ________________________________________
