WHERE ARE THE APPLIANCE INFLUENCERS? Mar 28, 2024
    Show notes

A Sierra Mist scandal, childhood inspired taste drives, and special industry news guest — what more could a Carpooler want? Tune in to hear pregnancy updates, home project progress, and more!

Merriam Webster's word of the day today is 'kismet.' Lizz isn't sure why we can't just use fate or destiny, but this word has a little flair for what's meant to be.

Kelly is on a freezer meal rampage. She's got a stash of Pioneer Woman's baked ziti, Costco mac and cheese, and broccoli chicken cheesy casseroles that will keep her family and any neighbor in need fed for a while. In their driveway dumps, Kelly and Lizz also vouch for the power of a house project when you're in your trying to make friends era. Both gals agree—influencers need to get on the home appliance bandwagon.

Kelly remembers her childhood 'viral' recipes like Ritz crackers, peanut butter, and grapes, sliced bananas in dry Jello powder, and carrots dipped in peanut butter on today's taste drive segment. She and Lizz are trying Solely pineapple fruit leather, the bottled Starbucks pink drink, and bottled Starbucks Paradise drink.

Today's episode is brought to you by Zocdoc. When it comes to your health, there is no room for compromise. Don't book an appointment with a random doctor near you just because they're available right now. Instead, check out Zocdoc, where you can search by location, availability, and insurance. Compare highly rated in-network doctors near you and instantly book appointments with them online through the Zocdoc app.

→ Visit zocdoc.com/carpool and download the Zocdoc app for free.

Special guest Mary Rice, Kelly's mentor, dealer principal of her family's Toyota store in Greensboro, a mom, and lifelong baddie joins the gals for a special industry news. Automotive news is no longer considering Tesla a luxury brand and that has everyone wondering what their criteria is in the first place. Marry offers her take on the new EPA regulations, what they mean for the EV market, and how Toyota is contributing to the hybrid wave.

Mary shares her favorite ditch the drive-through: easy crockpot salsa chicken. Just throw your chicken breast in a crockpot, pour salsa over it, set it, and forget it until dinner time. Throw the finished chicken into tacos, fajitas, quesadillas, or even eggs the next morning. She also reminds us not to sleep on the crock pot liners for easy cleanup.

HOW TO LOVE THY NEIGHBOR with NAPTIME KITCHEN Mar 26, 2024
    Show notes

Are you ready for a Naptime Kitchen Empire? Kelly is! Today Kate joines the gals with a surprise that's giving 'love your neighbor.' Lizz is well rested after getting James to sleep through the night and Kelly is close to finishing Boys In The Boat—so stay tuned for the upcoming book club episode.

Today's millennial words are: rage applying (therapeutic and petty!), snail girl era, shift shock, and bare minimum Mondays. Kelly and Lizz wonder if Gen Z is just rebranding laziness at work.

Kate from Naptime Kitchen is here to share her new free eBook: Take Them a Meal Manual, a Collective Guide for Feeding Friends. Inside you'll find over 100 total recipes that you can use to stock your freezer and your friends'. Kate also shares her four take-them-a-meal-mantras: you don't have to make everything yourself, you don't have to bring a whole meal, repetition is great, and the freezer is your friend. Play into your strengths and use tools like Meal Train to elevate your take-a-meal experience.

Kelly's ready for the next level of Easter and is remembering her childhood string-adventures. Lizz and Kate also share their love of the golden egg and how they organize family events. Bless yourself this holiday season and offer to bring something easy for the kids, like Kelly is in her berries and peeled oranges era.

If you still need a ditch the drive-through after this episode, remember the next time you're at a place that sells something pre-made that you love to buy a few extra for your freezer.

A GIRL'S GUIDE TO THE NEW YORK AUTO SHOW Mar 21, 2024
    Show notes

Kelly is feeling humbled by her jumping joints and pregnancy evolution, but today's fast lane philosophy is giving her hope. "To rest is to repair yourself to be used by God," and that's good to hear, especially when you've got to say no to a cool opportunity because of the cost.

Today's millennial word is giving boundaries. 'Acting your wage' is about doing just what you're paid for and Kelly and Lizz have mixed feelings about the idea.

Apparently it's orange season! So, put the cuties back and peel yourself a luscious orange to enjoy a simple base model luxury. Then, join Lizz on her sourdough cinnamon roll and fruit leather adventure.

Viral reels and potty bag consumerism kick off the gals' dumpity do dahs. There's something sketchy going on with Kate Middleton and the royal family and…isn't there always? The Montana Boys have Kelly and Lizz asking, 'Can 24 year old boys have a social media presence without being unbelievably cringey?' Grayson gives her take and assures her sisters that she isn't their demographic either.

Spring cleaning and organizing is right around the corner. So now is the time to get that Caraway cookware set you've had your eye on. This internet famous kitchenware is a staple for any home and comes in various modern shades to fit any design aesthetic. And not only is Caraway healthy and beautiful, their pans also come with the perfect storage system. Over 65,000 people have given Caraway kitchenware five stars. Now it's time to try it for yourself.

→ Visit carawayhome.com/carpool or use the code CARPOOL at checkout to get 10% off your next purchase for a limited time.

Special guest Scotty Reiss from A Girl's Guide to Cars joins the Carpool for industry news. She's been in the automotive world since 2013 bringing content by women for women to help them become smarter and happier car owners. And while the industry has been changing from the inside, the retail side is still slow to catch up. The New York Auto Show has been changing that and on Saturday, March 30th from 7 pm to 9 pm (or whenever the party fizzles) Scotty will be offering a behind the scenes VIP tour experience for women.

Scotty also brings today's ditch the drive-through: a delicious pasta dish that comes together in a snap. Set your oven to 425 and in an oven-safe dish layer spinach (fresh or frozen), tomatoes (small or quartered), garlic cloves (one per person), and ricotta cheese (¼ cup per person). Drizzle the whole thing with olive oil, put a lid on the dish, and bake for 30 to 40 minutes. Boil your pasta while it bakes. When the veggie mixture is done, smash the tomatoes and garlic and toss your pasta in. Serve with crusty bread.

DOING IT FOR THE PLOT Mar 19, 2024
    Show notes

Not one but TWO new Carpool babies are on board for this celebratory episode! Tune in for a full report on family baby announcements and Kelly and Lizz's early pregnancy symptoms.

Shout out to @themomfluencer on IG for today's millennial word of the day,

"Do it for the plot," which is the new—and much cooler—way of saying 'yolo.'

In driveway dumps Kelly and Lizz talk about detoxing your home. Lizz finished her first candle to get rid of artificial fragrances and Kelly and her kids have switched to The Primal Kitchen ketchup. Lizz shares her backsplash project progress and Kelly updates us on her fish fry bar-baking journey. Her three-staple recipes are yet to be found for biscuits, cookies, and lemon bars.

Got pregnancy brain? Then chances are you'll end up forgetting a thing or two, like when to cancel that trial subscription you started. Stop wasting your money on things you don't use, like sneaky subscriptions that pile up so quickly. Put them all in one place and easily cancel the ones you’re not using with Rocket Money. This personal finance app can also monitor spending and help you lower your bills—all in one, easy-to-use place.

    Last three transactions

Lizz kicks off the last three transactions segment with her car seat purchase for Mattie's truck, the Britax Poplar. This seat is easy to install and get tight, even if you've got three across. She's also picked up a hot glue gun to get her wicks just right for candle making and a retractable baby gate to keep James safe around the stairs. Kelly is excited about the lifetime lockers that have arrived for her new garage and is less thrilled about needing to order magnesium lotion for her pregnancy arthritis. Lastly, Primally Pure Skincare is on it's way after Kelly took their quiz and ordered the whole kit!

Rivian's R2 reveal brings us a cute little SUV that starts at $45K. In industry news, Kelly shares that they also had a surprise R3 reveal along with it. And if you're actually shopping at the New York Auto Show, check out group tours with Scotty from 'A Girl's Guide to Cars'!

The last three meals Kelly made are bringing get-it-on-the-table inspiration so you can ditch the drive-through. Ham, mac and cheese, and Car Mom broccoli; Chicken Ceasar wraps with Just Bare chicken nuggets, Trader Joe's white rice, and a Caesar salad mix; and Trader Joe's beef kebabs with rice, cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, feta, lime, red onion, and tzatziki sauce.

IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG, PREGNANT SUMMER! Mar 14, 2024

    GET A HOBBY! Mar 12, 2024
    Show notes

Does growing up mean getting boring? Lizz needs some spice in her life and Kelly has kicked her nausea and is headed back to the kitchen feeling inspired.

Today's millennial word of the day is 'sidequest.' These are the little stops you make along the way when you're on your main mission.

Hobbies and fashion trends take over the driveway dumps. If you're looking for something more fun than going to the grocery, then get ready to take notes! Look for a local Pickleball league you can join with your spouse or the whole family. Quilting, sewing, needlepoint, and crochet are great hobbies to pick up from a YouTube tutorial. Sourdough, baking, and cooking without a purpose might just land a tasty treat on your dinner table this week. House projects and outdoor activities like a 5K run are fun, active options as the weather warms up. And a lesson to learn something new can be inspiring, too.

Never make a subscription 'oops' again with Rocket Money. Stop wasting your money on things you don't use. Between streaming services, fitness apps, delivery services, parenting apps…the subscriptions are sneaky and endless. Put all your subscriptions in one place and easily cancel the ones you’re not using with Rocket Money. This personal finance app can also monitor spending and help you lower your bills—all in one, easy-to-use place.

Kelly's bringing a 2024 outlook on the tailored boho look that's on it's way 'in.' Look out for fringe, rich burgundy, and maroon. She's also a fan of the girl core look with bows and ruffles. Kelly (of course) loves that sky blue is in. And a few interesting spins on disco details, non-basic basics, and office wear will be making appearances this year, too.

In industry news, Mach Es and Lightnings will receive an over-the-air update that enables them to charge at select Tesla superchargers nationwide. Kelly's excited to see the new Explorer at the NY Auto Show as well as the 2025 Infiniti QX 80. She may not get the changes she's hoping for, but we'll see!

Ditch the drive-through is dedicated to satisfying Kelly's balsamic cravings. She's going beyond shots of vinegar and venturing into the chicken arena. Check out Naptime Kitchen's Bruschetta (Balsamic) Chicken slow-cooker recipe here.

A GIRL SCOUT COOKIE SHOCKER Mar 07, 2024
    Show notes

It's time for a sleep coach, a (planned) surgery for baby James, and big changes for The Truck Dad! Stay tuned for sleep training updates and a visit from Tyler very soon.

Coastal grandmother is out, grandpa core is in—and is today's millennial word of the day. Grab your cozy cardigans, sweatshirts with school logos, tweed jackets, and watches if you're ready to hop on this trendy vibe.

Kelly kicks off driveway dumps with the Gen Z fashion trend that's going to make her throw up a little in her mouth. With pregnancy exhaustion setting in and a move underway, Kelly's learning to embrace the chaos and let things go so she can relax while romanticizing her sticky countertops.

Never forget Oreo gate! Lizz is back on her cookie detective game with today's taste drive of two different Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies. Apparently two Girl Scout bakeries distribute different cookies in different parts of the country.

Want a fresh start in your finances—the easy way? Stop wasting your money on things you don't use. Between streaming services, fitness apps, delivery services, parenting apps…the subscriptions are sneaky and endless. In industry news, electric vehicles are getting all the attention, but hydrogen fuel cell vehicles may be on the rise. GM received $26 million in federal funding for hydrogen fuel cell medium duty trucks. Fueling challenges and expenses may prevent them from becoming a strong contender in the market, but only time will tell.

Jenn writes in for advice on whether her family with a two year old, a five year old, and one on the way would be better off in an Explorer with a bench or captain chairs? Kelly says she'd look at the 2020 and beyond in the Explorer, but her better options for three across are the Atlas and Pilot.

MORTIFYING PINTEREST QUOTES FROM 2010 Mar 05, 2024
    Show notes

Where will this episode go with Kelly in the driver's seat and Lizz just along for the ride? Buckle up and listen in to find out.

Today's millennial word of the day is 'tradwives.' These are women who want to be traditional wives who do the cooking, cleaning, and stay home with the kids. Kelly and Lizz both remind us that this is just as fine as any other way to be a wife and mom—there's no one way to do family life!

Fast lane philosophies draw from Kelly and Lizz's 2010 quotes boards. If you were a Pinterest princess, too you'll love this mix of inspiring and confusing lines from over a decade ago. Lizz shares a more recent favorite that reminds us not to worry about the shape of our body, but instead to focus on the shape of our mind, which inspires a nod to mom, who's currently exercising her brain by learning a song in German.

In industry news, Apple announces they're canceling their electric car, consumer reports names their 24 car picks (and most are EVs or hybrids!), and Kelly is listening to families while manufacturers seem to be tuning out—everyone wants a midsize hybrid SUV around $40,000. Here's to hoping they perk up their ears since the Kia Sorento is about the only option families currently have. To wrap up this segment, Kelly's shares exciting news about her new three car garage and Car Mom headquarters.

Want a fresh start in your finances—the easy way? Stop wasting your money on things you don't use. Kellog's CEO is being canceled for promoting families eating cereal for dinner. Kelly and Lizz say the problem isn't you, the problem is America (and our food). If you're looking for budget friendly meals, look no further than today's ditch the drive-through for cheap and easy meals you can make your family including:

    • Kielbasa sausage, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and a canned green beans
    • Dr. Pepper pulled pork
    • Grilled cheese and tomato soup
    • Eggs, sausages, and fruit
    • Chicken breasts with salsa in the crock pot
    • Frozen meatballs, rice, broccoli
    • Ashley's cornbread casserole: ground beef, red kidney beans, corn, and Rotel in a cast iron pan topped with a prepared cornbread mix and baked

LET US NAME YOUR EV Feb 29, 2024
    Show notes

The Pooh Bear look is redeeming Fred's baby boy style, but the highlight of the week is still shopping for new baby girl clothes. On today's episode, Kelly and Lizz share their hot takes on everything from baby thermometers to EV names.

Retinue is today's Merriam Webster word of the day. It means a group of helpers, supporters, or followers.

While baby James was sick, Lizz found herself creating a low-lift luxury at home: cucumber mint water. Now, she's inspired to plan a little herb garden for summer.

Lizz's last three transactions include a dress haul, wicks for beeswax candles, and the Frida baby thermometer. Kelly ordered Hattie a 'get married' dress, a new travel potty, and living room and bedroom furniture for the new house. She also mentions that The Somerset Dress from Anthropologie might be on her next three transactions and Lizz recommends checking out the Nuuly clothing rental service for access to great modern brands.

Less butter, no chemicals to give you the ick, absolutely gorgeous—and easier clean up? Say no more. When you’re ditching the drive-through, reach for Caraway Homes, non-toxic kitchenware. Their pans are not only healthy, beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing, they also come with the perfect organization system. Over 65,000 people have given Caraway kitchenware five stars. Now it's time to try it for yourself.

→ Visit carawayhome.com/carpool to get 20% off your next purchase for a limited time.

On today's advice segment, a hybrid-curious family of four who loves their Subaru Forester wonders if they should stick with another Forester or shop around? Kelly says…maybe wait. Another listener asks what to do about buying a new car when the salesman she's loyal to might not sell what she needs.

Kelly has the scoop on the Rivian deep-sleep feature when car seats are installed on today's industry news. Buick has a new tagline — Kelly's underwhelmed, but Lizz thinks it's cute! The most recent top safety picks from IAHS go to the Genesis Hyundai and Kia brands, Stellantis might just be the Kia of 15 years ago, and Kelly and Lizz have Car-Mom-approved EV names Lincoln (and others) are more than welcome to snag.

Alyssa is joining in on the group project of Kelly's life with today's ditch the drive-through meal-prep hack. Every Sunday her family has grilled chicken salads so the extra meat can be used all week for lunches. Her husband also preps extra bacon for breakfasts and ground sausage for soup making kitchen cleanup a snap.

STUMPE BABY #4 IS ON THE WAY! Feb 27, 2024
    Show notes

Fred is giving middle child energy, so it's a good thing Stumpe baby number four is on the way!!! Kelly took an early blood test to reveal the baby's gender and she's sharing the details on today's episode. She's also thinking about her future ride (of course) and ready to order a baby name book.

Doom scrolling is today's millennial word of the day. If you find yourself looking compulsively for bad news on your feed, you might be guilty of doom scrolling, a habit Kelly and Lizz agree isn't contributing to community building and connection.

"If you want to change the world, go home and love your family," is today's fast lane philosophy that Kelly slips in from Mother Theresa.

In industry news, the Ford Explorer gets a mid-cycle refresh and ditches their plug in hybrid. Kelly says it's giving Subaru Ascent. And if you were hoping to snag a New York Auto Show tour, Kelly's booked, but you can check out tours with Scotty, who runs A Girl's Guide to Cars.

Ashley writes in today's ditch the drive-through recipe, Caprice Chicken. If you're not in first trimester survival mode, this recipe is for you. First, gather your ingredients: thin sliced chicken breasts, cherry tomatoes, mozzarella, basal glaze, fresh basil. Cook the chicken on the stove top in a pan with some olive oil or avocado oil, salt pepper, Italian seasoning, whatever sounds good. Once about halfway through, flip the chicken and throw in some grape or cherry tomatoes. Keep them in long enough for them to start blistering. Once chicken is nearly cooked, cover with slices of mozzarella, so it starts to melt onto the chicken. Once finished, drizzle the balsamic glaze on top and garnish with fresh basil. Serve with a veggie or bagged salad and rice, pasta, or potatoes.
