The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 5th study session on Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf's In The Blink of an Eye. Abdul-Rauf, formerly known as Chris Jackson, is a retired NBA player who became infamous for not participating in the national anthem during the 1996 season. Abdul-Rauf was quickly ejected from the league and all but forgotten. In fact, White journalists found as many of Abdul-Rauf's black co-workers as possible to have them criticize how he responded to White Supremacy/Racism. This very dynamic is being replicated currently with basketball player Kyrie Irving being widely admonished by many of his non-white colleagues. Gus hopes that by studying Abdul-Rauf's tribulations, non-white people will better understand the importance of resisting the urge to criticize other Victims of Racism. Last week, Abdul-Rauf described the process of leaving college to join the NBA. He remembers visiting his mother's dilapidated house with the empty refrigerator. Interestingly, once he joins the NBA, he gains a lot of weight - which Gus suspects could be compensation for being malnourished and starving for most of his early life. As opposed to chasing White Women and running the streets, Abdul-Rauf took care if his family, remained a disciplined Muslim, and worked on his basketball craft. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Amanda Lanata. A native of Louisiana, Lanata works for the Louisiana Main Street program, which allegedly changes the way people think and conduct business in downtown and commercial areas. An investor wanted Gus to speak with Ms. Lanata, a White Woman, about the water crisis in Jackson, Mississippi. Since this summer, the majority-black town has received global attention for recurring water failures which left black citizens in life-threatening danger. With this week's bomb cyclone and historically low temperatures across the northwestern hemisphere, pipes reportedly froze and burst in Jackson. We'll discuss this with Ms. Lanata, but we'll also make time to discuss her contribution to the Two Mississippi Museums project. Lanata was hired to help curate The Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. These institutes primarily tell the history of the state System of White Supremacy/Racism and the response from Victims like Fannie Lou Hamer and Medgar Evers. Just this summer, Gus T. read a critique of these Mississippi institutions in Suspected Racist Davis W. Houck's Black Bodies in the River. We'll see if she read this newly released study on the Magnolia state. Non-white people should be mindful that Lanata began working on this project as a note taker and moved her way up to being co-curator. #WhiteWelfare Non-white people should pay close attention to Mrs. Lanata's giggling as well as Gus's inspection of her September 2022 commentary with Suspected Racist Charles Marohn. This White Man said that if Jackson was an all White town, they would have the same water crisis. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Jared Ross Hardesty. An Associate Professor of History at Western Washington University, Dr. Hardesty is a scholar of colonial America, the Atlantic world, and the histories of labor and slavery. He's written three books about Racism/White Supremacy in the US, and we'll discuss his 2021 offering, Mutiny on the Rising Sun: A Tragic Tale of Smuggling, Slavery, and Chocolate. Gus heard about this book from WGBH Boston Public Radio. They reported on Old North Church and how the three centuries old house of worship was complicit in slavery. Specifically, White church members sat in the pews of Old North Church to network with other slave smugglers/owners. Dr. Hardesty's book examines an 18th century mutiny in the Caribbean, where White pirate slave smugglers were killed by some of their non-white crew members. 15 slaves - mostly black children - had to witness the carnage. Listeners are encouraged to remember Neely Fuller Jr. and Dr. Frances Cress Welsing's commentary about the symbolism and significance of chocolate in the System of White Supremacy. In fact, Dr. Hardesty confessed to being unaware that American icon Jeffrey Dahmer was employed in a chocolate factory. Pay special attention to exchange about the racial classification of Dr. Hardesty's researchers ("hispanic" is not a racial classification #Confusion) as well as the dialog about the rape of "enslaved" black children like Sally Hemings. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Antione D. Tomlin. Chair and Associate Professor of Academic Literacies at Anne Arundel Community College, Dr. Tomlin oversees a program that prepares students for success by teaching them how to critically evaluate academic texts and write at the college level. We'll review his 2021 dissertation, When They See Us: Narratives of Black Male Teachers, which examines the deliberate dearth of black male educators. Gus T. was reminded of previous reports detailing the number of black male teachers who were lynched for trying to teach black children. Just last week, the BBC featured a report noting the exact same problem - no black male teachers across the pond either. During our robust dialog with Dr. Tomlin, we highlighted the importance of Dr. Tommy J. Curry's publication, The Man-Not: Race, Class, Genre & The Dilemmas of Black Manhood, and the concept of black misandry. Dr. Tomlin shared that he excluded commentary from half of the black male participants he interviewed who relayed experiences of being sexually harassed by female staff members. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS The Congressional panel released their final report on the investigation into the White Terrorism of the January 6th, 2021 insurrection at the Capitol building. The word "Racism" appears in the report exactly one time. Former President Donald J. Trump is referred for criminal prosecution and is blamed for much of the tumult. It's doubtful he - or too many other Whites will be seriously punished. Speaking of punitive action, former Texas enforcement official Aaron Dean was sentenced to 11 years, 10 months in prison for the 2019 killing of 28-year-old Atatiana Jefferson. Across the pond in France, a 69-year-old gunman reportedly opened fired at a Kurdish cultural center in Paris. Three non-white people were killed. The BBC reports that the shooter "described himself as racist, has been transferred to a psychiatric facility." It's suspected that this may have been a deliberate White Supremacist attack. While the globe preps for the arrival of a tubby fat man with gifts (and maybe guns), much of the northwestern hemisphere is blanketed in snow, ice, and historically frigid temperatures. A 97-year-old Nazi White Woman, Irmgard Furchner, was convicted and sentenced for her roll in death of a reported 65 thousand people at the Stutthof death camps. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. We're in the crux of the holiday season, with the mad dash for last-minute gifts and traveling to visit attempted family. The polar vortex in the northwestern hemisphere shut a whole lot of this down and made driving and working substantially more dangerous. In addition to staying warm, we hope all non-white workers avoided tacky gift exchanges with co-workers and time-wasting office parties. If you are required to attend office shindigs, remain codified and sober. Don't even take a sip of wine. If folks were able to take time away from you workplace, use your brief respite to nourish and plan for a constructive 2023. Last week, Abdul-Rauf described his brilliant college basketball career. He scored buckets by the bushel and refused to take sass from a behemoth LSU freshman named Shaquille O'Neal. Importantly, Abdul-Rauf detailed how Shaq's father, the late Sergeant Philip Harrison, was heavily involved with his son's basketball development and talked the White coach often. This is in stark contrast to the "father hunger" we've heard about throughout this memoir. We also heard about an extraordinary episode where Abdul-Rauf attended a White Louisiana church, and a Suspected Racist child spoke in tongues while placing hands on the college hoops star. This and other questions led to his conversion to Islam. Apparently, Coach Dale Brown (Racist Suspect) gave his top black player a copy of Minister Malcolm X's autobiography, and this radically changed how Abdul-Rauf thought about, behaved around, and spoke to individuals classified as White. A medical sociologist and health services researcher whose research and teaching focus on health disparities, population health, and substance use, Dr. Franz is an Associate Professor of Community-based Health at Ohio University. She is classified as a White Woman (Suspected Racist). Her areas of expertise include: the Affordable Care Act (affectionately known as Obamacare), Covid-19, health disparities, and “Racism/Discrimination.” Gus found a number of Dr. Franz’s reports while researching White Supremacy and the rona. We’ll discuss Gus’s concept of White Defiance and how White refusal to adhere to social distancing and mask wearing is greatly motivated by a White Supremacist perspective about the people being impacted by Covid-19. We discuss how White Genetic Annihilation is motivating the thought, speech, and behavior of people classified as White. Importantly, we discuss Neely Fuller Jr's concept of White Sacrifice as it relates to "Obamacare." Dr. Franz deconstructs how a number of individuals classified as White are willing to damage their own White health and well being by rejecting "universal healthcare" because it would also benefit a large number of black people in the US. This willingness to "sacrifice" a percentage of White life if it results in a greater percentage of dark people being harmed. After growing up in Beijing, Dr. Bai went to the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities in 2009 for an undergraduate education and completed a social psychology Ph.D. in 2015 . He's done a substantial amount and impressive quality of work on White Genetic Annihilation and Covid-19 conspiracies. We'll ponder what it means to be White while discussing his research on how the thought, speech and conduct of people classified as White is impacted by data about population. Specifically, we'll discuss the responses White people have to news about increasing populations of black people and the stark contrast to hearing news about the population of non-black, non-white people. We'll also discuss his exploration of the Covid-19 conspiracies. Kevin Hazzard, the White author of American Sirens, was with us last month, and he wrote about the history of White people rioting, trafficking "snake oil" and bogus cures, and defying public health guidelines during the 19th century cholera pandemic. Her 8-year-old nephew witnessed the killing and testified at the trial. Many non-white Texans believed Dean should have convicted of murder - which would have warranted a longer sentence. Next door in Louisiana, 5 officers were charged for the police killing of Ronald Greene. This black male was pummeled, choked and dragged by his shackles before before his death the same year as Ms. Jefferson. Many across the country were shocked by the news that Ellen DeGeneres's black male college, Stephen "tWitch" Boss, reportedly took his own life. A "married" attempted father of three children, no one had clues that Boss was dealing with mental health problems. This Victim of Racism was heavily involved with the allegations that DeGeneres's allowed a toxic and racist work environment where employees were mistreated.
