We'll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS The final week of October saw the passing of musical genius Fats Domino and legendary actor Robert Guillaume. Domino, a Louisiana native limited to a fourth grade education because of racism, lived to see 89, sold millions of records, and survived Hurricane Katrina and the 2005 levee failure. Guillaume acted in television and film for decades while challenging restraints on what black entertainers could do. Speaking of prohibition, President Donald Trump verbalized plans to address the White opioid epidemic as a "public health emergency." A Virginia high school was in crisis after video depicted White middle school students simulating the rape of black children while shouting they would "fuck the black out" of them. Sensitivity training is planned. The "medical apartheid" against black people continues as the Los Angeles Times reports the staggering maternal mortality rate for black mothers in the US. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the third study session on Neil Postman's Crazy Talk, Stupid Talk: How We Defeat Ourselves By the Way We Talk and What to Do About It. Postman is a Racist Suspect, who authored a number of stnadout texts, including: Amusing Ourselves To Death; Teaching as a Subversive Activity; and How to Watch TV News. A prolific author, Postman wrote 18 books, was a professor of media ecology at New York University, and delivered astute analysis of technology and the use of words. Students of counter-racism understand the primary weapon of Racists is the incorrect and deceptive use of words. We'll keep this in mind while studying Crazy Talk, Stupid Talk. Last week's session allowed Postman to explain what qualifies as "crazy talk" and how that's different from "stupid talk." Post classified the latter as individual fallacy or ignorance, whereas "crazy talk" represents a large number of people verbalizing support of and commitment to incorrect or unjust goals. Speech supporting White Supremacy would be defined as "crazy talk" according to Postman. The text also stressed how metaphors often conceal multiple concepts or messages that influence our thinking and behavior. Critically, Postman explained that words are a critical component of our thinking. Those who create and refine vocabularies exert extraordinary power over people. The Context of White Supremacy hosts our Thursday weekly forum on neutralizing Workplace Racism. The reason for this broadcast is to boost non-white people's problem-solving skills and refine how black people think, speak, act and control emotions while at work. Any listeners who've uncovered the best tactics to minimize conflict with White and/or non-white co-workers, stear clear of demotions, write-ups, terminations or other violence we experience in Racist work environments should be first to dial in with particulars. We always value the observations of "black entrepreneurs;" please, share with us how being "self-employed" improves your labor experience. The past few months have been saturated with discussion of sexual harassment in the workplace. Although White Women have been the default victims of sexual violence, unwanted touching, rape, and molestation in the workplace have been problems for Black females and males for centuries - dating back to the cotton fields. One might be able to use the current environment to address sexual abuse in your own workplace. We'll review counter-racist suggestions from listeners as well as individual reflections from your own work history. Gus suggests Victims of Racism write down critical workplace episodes. Dr. Niyana Rasayon returns to The Context of White Supremacy. A father, behavioral neuroscientist, neuropsychologist, and author, Dr. Rasayon is a North Carolina A&T alumnus and one of our alltime favorite guests. We've previously discussed his written material - including The Awakening and Reality Check, and are always grateful to get his views on current events as well as suggestions on what black people can do to solve our problems. We'll get his input on the FBI's warning about "Black Identity Extremists." A bureau document outlined a threat posed by Black people who are angered about police abuse and may be motivated to retaliate with violence. While black people are branded with new labels and subjected to more criminal surveillance, Whites like Stephen Paddock keep stockpiling weapons of mass destruction. We'll ask Dr. Rasayon about the carnage in Las Vegas that left 58 people dead. Prisoners are being shipped to the front lines to battle the blazes in the hopes of demonstrating "good behavior". President Donald J. Trump continues to chip away at Barack Obama's policies, this week scuttling funding to key portions of the Affordable Care Act. Whites continue to talk trash about the current commander in chief. Even former President George W. Bush told a New York audience "bigotry seems emboldened" in Trump's America. Speaking of bold, former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick filed a lawsuit against the NFL alleging that White owners colluded to deny him employment. Whites made no effort to collude against suspected sexual predator Harvey Weinstein. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 2nd study session on Neil Postman's Crazy Talk, Stupid Talk: How We Defeat Ourselves By the Way We Talk and What to Do About It. Postman is a Suspected Racist, who authored a heap of notable texts, including: Amusing Ourselves To Death; Teaching as a Subversive Activity; and How to Watch TV News. A prolific author, Postman published 18 books, was a professor of media ecology at New York University, and delivered astute critiques of technology and the use of language. Students of counter-racism understand the primary weapon of Racists is the incorrect and distorted use of words. We'll keep this in mind while studying Crazy Talk, Stupid Talk. Last week's session examined the importance of language and listed examples of how reckless use of words errodes comprehension and often generates problems. He took care to emphasize the importance of the "semantic environment," meaning the context and variables that explain what is supposed to be discussed and what words utilized. Postman says that problems also arise when we use terms that don't necessarily correspond to the current environment. The reason for this program is to improve non-white people's problem-solving skills and to fortify how black people think, speak, act and manage emotions while on the job. The Context of White Supremacy hosts our monthly Global Sunday Talk On Racism. This broadcast is uniquely constructed to encourage participation from Victims of Racism outside the United States and/or non-white people who are unable to join us during our usual broadcast time. Prime Minister Theresa May gave an elegant speech this week about the a report detailing widespread racism in England. The report confirmed the usual array of educational, economic, and employment disparities between Whites and non-whites. We'll ask our British listeners how talking points and perspectives have changed since September's terrorist attack in London. We'll also get our international listeners' views on the conflict with North Korea. Previous listeners outside the U.S. detailed that Kim Jong-un is thought of as a joke more than a threat. The United Kingdom is current celebrating Black History Month. Weinstein, who's produced such classics as "Pulp Fiction" and "Gangs of New York," was terminated from the film company bearing his name. Unlike Cosby, he's not facing criminal charges. Black male actor Terry Crews took this moment to reveal that he too was sexually molested in Hollywood. Crews sahred that an entertainment executive groped his genitals in front of his wife. The 6'3" Crews remained silent because he feared being ostracized in tinseltown. Music titan Eminem was commended by everyone from Colin Kaepernick to LeBron James and Kendrick Lamar for his lyrical takedown of President Donald Trump at this week's BET awards ceremony. White people talking trash about Trump might be in vogue for the next 7 years. The niggling anthem protests continue with White NFL executives coercing players to discontinue with kneeling during the Star-Spangled Banner. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the premier study session on Neil Postman's Crazy Talk, Stupid Talk: How We Defeat Ourselves by the Way We Talk And What to Do About It. Postman is a Racist Suspect, who authored a number of standout texts, including: Amusing Ourselves To Death; Teaching as a Subversive Activity; and How to Watch TV News. A prolific author, Postman published 18 books, was a professor of media ecology at New York University, and delivered decades of insightful critiques of technology and the use of language. Students of counter-racism understand the primary weapon of Racists is the incorrect and deceptive use of words. We'll keep this in mind while reading Crazy Talk, Stupid Talk. This book, published in 1976, groups problematic speech into two categories. He defines "stupid talk" as incorrect language use that promotes confusion and incoherence. "Crazy talk" is identified as language that may be correctly structured, but promotes incorrect thinking. Postman brands certain types of Racist speech as "crazy talk." This book, written by a White man, does explicitly mention Racism often; listeners should be vigilant. Postman also provides an array of constructive insight about the way we use words.
