We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS The state of Florida, nicknamed the "Gunshine" state because of their longstanding devotion to safeguarding the rights of gun owners, passed significant restrictions on firearm acquisition - including lifting the age to legally purchase a gun to 21. In the same state, a White female school teacher, Dayanna Volitich, was relieved of her teaching responsibilities after it became public that she hosted a "White Nationalist" podcast during her leisure time. On the other side of the world, Rufaro Chisango, a black female student at Nottingham Trent University and College Union, captured video of her White classmates chanting "we hate blacks" as they stampeded through the dormitory. The young Race Soldiers were later arrested. Also in Europe, actor Marius Makon was terrorized by a White Woman in a Madrid bar. The Race Soldier allegedly bludgeoned him across the head with a beer bottle, shouting: "I'm white... The Context of White Supremacy hosts the premier study session on Angie Thomas's bestselling young adult novel, The Hate U Give. Written in response to the 2009 police killing of Oscar Grant, Thomas's work "debuted at the top of The New York Timesâ??s Young Adult best-seller list, and has drawn ecstatic praise from critics, librarians, book sellers and prominent young-adult novelists," says The Times's Alexandra Alter. Thomas's work has been so successful, it's being converted to a major motion picture starring The Hunger Games's Amandla Stenberg. The novel follows a young black girl who attends a predominantly White school. Unfortunately, a tragic arrangement - a "romantic" relationship between a black female and White male, is a significant aspect of the book. Much of the critical acclaim focuses on how this volume honestly interrogates the violence of White Supremacy. An educator and C.O.W.S. listener said The Hate U Give is being heavily promoted in schools, where many black girls and boys are required to read it. The broadcast is specially crafted to enhance non-white people's problem-solving ability and to refine how black people think, speak, act and regulate emotions while on the job. Any listeners who've figured out the best technique to minimize conflicts with White and/or non-white co-workers, avoid demotions, write-ups, terminations or other forms of violence we experience in Racist work environments should be first to call in with details. The decision was widely cheered as yet another watershed moment for the LGBTQ community. Meanwhile victories for black people have been hard to count. A substantial number of the youth division of the White race are devoting time and energy to the subject of gun laws. After "White Identity Extremist" Nikolas Cruz slaughtered more than a dozen children at a Florida school, Whites are again chinwagging about the possibility of symbolically castrating Whites, restricting access to certain firearms. After nearly a decade of the "Obama effect," where historic numbers of Whites purchased firearms in response to the first non-white president, the Trump era has reversed the fad, there are now more guns than White buyers. The generational violence Whites inflict on black and non-white people is consistently ignored when the focus and empathy is locked on the latest White victims of gun violence. While the Florida bloodbath dominates the headlines, a White Louisiana educator, Mike Whitlow, posted a graphic of a noose, demanding that criminals be made to fear punishment. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 6th and final study session on Kevin Dutton's The Wisdom of Psychopaths: Lessons in Life from Saints, Spies and Serial Killers. A research psychologist at the Department of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford, Dutton's research interests include persuasion and social influence, and the psychopathic personality. Dutton is classified as a White man and was born in the United Kingdom. Years ago, Dr. Niyana Rasayon recommended that C.O.W.S. listeners investigate this book for an nuanced understanding of what it means to be classified as White. The previous session discussed Dutton excursion to a European detention center where psychopaths are caged. He continued to stress the essential traits of psychopaths which can be applied - allegedly in moderation - for everyday people to strive for success. Dutton praises the courage, mindfulness, creativity and ruthlessness that psychopaths exercise, but he consistently minimizes the violence and mistreatment connected to these charming abusers. The C.O.W.S. 9 Year Anniversary: Dr. Kamau Kambon Feb 21, 2018

The Context of White Supremacy recognizes our 9th year broadcasting. Joining us for the occasion is author, educator, father and attempted counter-racist scientist Dr. Kamau Kambon. Some of his books include: The Last Book; Black Guerrilla Warfare in America; Tips on Quick and Easy Ways Afrikans Can Commit Subtle Suicide; and Food Health and You: Why Black People Die So Young. After Gus's residence was flooded, Dr. Kambon's insight motivated him to focus on self care. As opposed to eating "comfort food" or consuming alcohol, Gus resumed his yoga practice and regressed to being vegan. Dr. Kambon will explain why during times of intense stress, prioritizing self care is imperative. We'll also discuss the passing of author and journalist, Lerone Bennett Jr. as well as the significance of black ancestors in the struggle for black liberation. We'll examine news reports from the past seven days and - hopefully - promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS The roman-antics of St. Valentine's Day were eviscerated by yet another gun-toting White Man. Nikolaus Cruz, 19, has been arrested and charged with killing 17 people during a school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Unlike Miriam I. Carey, Walter Scott and an infinite number of unarmed Black victims of police terrorism, Cruz was taken into custody unharmed. CNN reports that Cruz used social media to "[hurl] slurs at blacks and Muslims... and had ties to White Supremacists." Multiple tragedies struck during the middle of Black History Month, as historian, author and journalist Lerone Bennett Jr. died this week at the age of 89. The former editor of JET and Ebony magazines, Bennett wrote nearly a dozen books, including: Before the Mayflower: A History of Black America and Forced into Glory: Abraham Lincolnâ??s White Dream. Celebrated and criticized illustrations of black people abounded this week, as portraits of Barack and Michelle Obama were revealed - the latter depicted holding a decapitated head.
