    The C.O.W.S. Toni Morrison's Tar Baby Part 7 Oct 10, 2019
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the seventh study session on the late Toni Morrison's 1981 novel, Tar Baby. The first black female to win the Nobel Prize for literature, Morrison, an Ohio native, died this summer at the age of 88. In edition to editing a number of black texts and compiling a gargantuan body of written work, Morrison encouraged other black females and males to write - including Dr. Angela Davis. The C.O.W.S. Book club examined The Bluest Eye in 2012. We'll recognize her passing by returning to her work, this time to read Tar Baby. The novel is named after the Uncle Remus character "Tar Baby." The term has been used a racist slur applied specifically to black children. This fable becomes an important part of the narrative. Last week's session saw Son and Jadine exit the island for the metropolis of New York City. Morrison described "The Biggle Apple" as a "black woman's town." While Jadine devours the big city restaurants, sightseeing, and fashion, Son struggles to secure employment. He's reduced to criminal activity and "brute work." He wonders to himself how he would be able to support a family in such an environment. Back on the island, Margaret attempts to minimize her child abuse by telling Valerian that it wasn't too bad and that it didn't really hurt their son, Michael, long term. #ReadingIsMoreImportantThanWatchingTelevision INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

    The C.O.W.S. Compensatory Call-In 10/05/19 Oct 06, 2019
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS Amber Guyger, a White Woman and former Dallas police official, was convicted for the 2018 murder of Botham Jean. The surprise of a guilty verdict was quickly eviscerated when she was sentenced to only 10 years in greater confinement. Guyger is likely to appeal. In Gouverneur, New York, White school officials continue sorting through the terrorist incident where a 10-year-old black girl was violently assaulted by two Racist White girls. The attack happened on a school bus, where the driver, Tiffany Spicer, allegedly spectated and did nothing to stop the brutality. She's been charged endangering the welfare of a child. In Arkansas, the Elaine Massacre of 1919 is being recognized is being recounted. The New York Times describes what happened a century early, where enforcement officials, soldiers, and "vigilantes, hunted black people over a 200-mile radius. They scorched and burned homes with families inside, slaughtered and tortured others. The troops were aided by seven machine guns." The number of black children, females and males killed remains unknown. #WhiteSupremacyIsUnforgiven INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

    The C.O.W.S. Neutralizing Workplace Racism 10/04/19 Oct 04, 2019
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy hosts our Friday weekly caucus on neutralizing Workplace Racism. This broadcast is specifically engineered to improve non-white people's problem-solving skills and refine how black people think, speak, act and control emotions while at work. Any listeners who've designed a code to minimize conflicts with White and/or non-white co-workers, bypass demotions, write-ups, terminations or other forms of violence we experience under Racist work conditions should be first to call in with particulars. We always appreciate the chance to learn about the experiences of "black entrepreneurs." Please, share with us how being "self employed" improves your work experience. We'll continue to review how attempted counter-racists can best utilize recording devices to solve problems without creating new problems in the workplace. We'll make a brief return to Calvin Lawrence visit to The C.O.W.S. earlier this week. He discussed his workplace experience in the Canadian police force - which was inundated with White Supremacy and alcoholic coworkers. In his book, Mr. Lawrence speaks candidly about how workplace tyranny eroded his health, confidence, and left him in a state of depression. This happens to countless black and non-white people. We'll also review This American Life's recent segment detailing White Supremacy/Racism in an Amsterdam fire department. #ReadingIsMoreImportantThanWatchingTelevision INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the fifth study session on the late Toni Morrison's 1981 novel, Tar Baby. The first black female to win the Nobel Prize for literature, Morrison, an Ohio native, passed away this summer at the age of 88. In edition to editing a number of black texts and compiling an mammoth body of written work, Morrison encouraged other black females and males to write - including Dr. Angela Davis. The C.O.W.S. Book club read The Bluest Eye in 2012. We'll recognize her passing by returning to her work, this time to read Tar Baby. The novel is named after the Uncle Remus character "Tar Baby." The term has been used a racist slur applied specifically to black children. This fable becomes an important part of the narrative. Last week's session featured a violent fracas between Ondine and Margaret Street. The brawl began when Valerian announced that he had fired two of the blacks servants for stealing stealing apples. Ondine became angered by this because it meant she would have more work to do and because of the trivial nature of the alleged offense. Her anger was enough to eventually compel her to divulge how Margaret Street violent abused her son Michael - including burning him. Margaret and Ondine engaged in a physical tussle before everyone was separated for the evening. Son and Jadine slept together - no sexual intercourse - following the conflict. #ReadingIsMoreImportantThanWatchingTelevision INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

The C.O.W.S. w/ Calvin Lawrence: Black Cop (Uncle Tom?) in Canada Oct 03, 2019
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Mr. Calvin Lawrence live from Canada. A Nova Scotia native, Mr. Lawrence is a part of generations of black people who have lived and confronted White Supremacy in Canada. We'll discuss his recently published book, "Black Cop: My 36 years in police work and my career-ending experience with official racism." Mr. Lawrence shares how a visit from the Black Panther Party prompted Canadian officials to begin hiring black police officers in the late 1960's. He was one of those officers. Black Cop documents how Whites responded to the hiring of black officers and the code Mr. Lawrence constructed to neutralize their attacks. He also describes being branded an "uncle tom" and a "sellout" by other black people. He made a code to counter that also. We'll likely make time to discuss Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's recent blackface controversy. #ReadingIsMoreImportantThanWatchingTelevision INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#
