The Context of White Supremacy hosts our debut study session on Gerald Horne's biography, Paul Robeson: The Artist As Revolutionary. Dr. Horne holds the Moores Professorship of History and African American Studies at the University of Houston. He's authored a bounty of texts and articles that details what Racism/White Supremacy is and how it operates globally. His 2016 biography of Robeson, chronicles the latter's illustrious achievements as a linguist, scholar, athlete and entertainer. Robeson used the his enormous bounty of talent to address the problem of Racism. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Professor Colin Gordon. Focusing on the history of American public policy and political economy, Professor Gordon is a distinguished part of the University of Iowa's history department. His new book, Citizen Brown: Race, Democracy, and Inequality in the St. Louis Suburbs, explores the decades of White Supremacist policies that produced the killing of Michael Brown Jr. in 2014 and the collective abuse targeting black citizens of the St. Louis area. We'll discuss Professor Gordon's class on the "History of American Inequality." Gus observed that Mr. Gordon's book is chock full of metaphors. A certified holistic nutritionist, wellness coach and an advocate for the life-saving benefits of plant-based nutrition, we first spoke with Dr. Lathon earlier this year before The C.O.W.S. 10-Year Anniversary Yoga Retreat. Listeners have continue to report improvements as they eliminate poor quality foods from their diet. We're excited tro ask Dr. Lathon about recent reports that allege consuming a bit of red meat is an acceptable part of a healthy diet. We'll also seek Dr. Lathon's advice for parents who want to eat better. Children can be finicky eaters, so a meal of hummus and cauliflower may not appeal to them. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS United States Congressman Elijah Cummings died this week at the age of 68. A fierce critic of President Donald J. Trump, Cummings served the Maryland area and regularly addressed the problem of Racism/White Supremacy. The United States Supreme Court is set to review the sentence of convicted "D.C. Sniper" Lee Boyd Malvo, who's serving life in prison with no chance of parole. He was 17 at the time of killings, and minors aren't supposed to judged by the same standards as adults. So called Columbus Day was recognized this week - although here in Washington there were protests for 'Indigenous Peoples Day.' In Texas, the police killing of Atatiana Jefferson continues to command national media. Aaron Dean, the White officer who allegedly murdered Jefferson, is free on bond after being charged for Jefferson's death. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 8th and final study session on the late Toni Morrison's 1981 novel, Tar Baby. The first black female to win the Nobel Prize for literature, Morrison, an Ohio native, died this summer at the age of 88. In edition to editing a number of black texts and compiling a gargantuan body of written work, Morrison encouraged other black females and males to write - including Dr. Angela Davis. The C.O.W.S. Book club examined The Bluest Eye in 2012. We'll recognize her passing by returning to her work, this time to read Tar Baby. The novel is named after the Uncle Remus character "Tar Baby." The term has been used a racist slur applied specifically to black children. This fable becomes an important part of the narrative. Last week's session saw Jadine and Son have an enormous brawl with each other after returning to New York from Eloe. They often fought about Valerian - specifically, Jadine's attachment to this White man. Jadine wants Son to get a job or take Valerian money's to start a business or go to school. Back on the island, Valerian continues to act greatly pained by the "revelation" that his wife abused their son, Michael. After Jadine dumps Son, she says it will be hard to forget him because of how well he "fucked." Meanwhile in Dylann Storm Roof's South Carolina, a White candidate for sheriff, Craig Stivender, is being forced to respond to photographs where he and a White Woman dressed in blackface. #Coonman Speaking of Race Soldiers, a Suspected Race Soldier, Stephan Balliet, live streamed his a violent assault on a German synagogue. Balliet is being charged with two counts of murder and allegedly held 9lbs. of explosives in his automobile. Like Roof, he had been planning this massacre for some time. In Florida, a White Woman verbally assailed a black boy for dropping a candy wrapper #BrokenWindows In Mexico, African migrants report rampant and debilitating racism. Gus T's yoga journey took a new turn, with him being asked to apply for a yoga teaching position. Before he even finished the application, he was presented with an employee handbook. It included a lot of information on sexual harassment, social media use and workplace violence. Gus sat quietly and read it with great interest. We'll discuss the importance of having a supply of references and the importance of having gathering information from - and about - your coworkers.
