    The C.O.W.S. Neutralizing Workplace Racism 01/03/20 Jan 03, 2020
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy hosts our Friday weekly caucus on neutralizing Workplace Racism. This broadcast is specifically structured to improve non-white people's problem-solving skills and refine how black people think, speak, act and manage emotions while at work. Any listeners who've designed a code to minimize conflicts with White and/or non-white co-workers, steer clear of demotions, write-ups, terminations or other forms of violence we experience under Racist work conditions should be first to call in with details. We always appreciate the chance to learn about the experiences of "black entrepreneurs." Please, share with us how being "self employed" makes your work experience better. We'll continue to review how attempted counter-racists can best utilize recording devices to solve problems without creating new problems in the workplace. We'll make space for final comments regarding holiday parties on the job - hopefully no one drank the "koolaid" or any other edible concoctions served up for office potlucks. We'll also examine the importance of asking for help. HBRCast interviewed Wayne Baker, a University of Michigan sociologist who studies the merits and inhibitions about seeking help from co-workers. #WorkplaceRacism INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

The C.O.W.S. Mumia Abu-Jamal's Live From Death Row Part 4 (Conclusion) Jan 02, 2020
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy hosts our 4th and final study session on Mumia Abu-Jamal's Live From Death Row. A father, journalist and former Black Panther Party Member, Abu-Jamal has been a Pennsylvania inmate since 1981. He stands convicted of killing a White enforcement officer on the morning of December 9, 1981. He's maintained his innocence for almost 40 years. We'll read his 1996 publication, Live From Death Row, which is a collection of essays examining White Supremacy, U.S. history and the so-called legal system. We'll explore how much has changed - or not - since this book's original publication. Last week's session contrasted the 1985 bombing of the MOVE headquarters in Philadelphia with the 1993 government siege of the Branch Davidian compound in Waco Texas. Mumia articulates that both represent violent draconian measures government takes against it's own people. Gus and Thomas in NY think find this comparison to be inaccurate as a number of high ranking white officials - including attorney general Janet Reno expressed sorrow about the loss of White life and the handling of the situation in Texas. There was near harmonious unanimity among Philadelphia officials who blamed the most black members of MOVE for the bombing, loss of life and destruction of black-owned property. Mumia detailed his time in the Black Panther Party - including the COINTELPRO fueled conflict within party ranks - and later his admiration for MOVE. Gus couldn't help but reflect on the numerous MOVE members who've been guests on The C.O.W.S. Notably, Sue Africa.

    The C.O.W.S. Compensatory Call-In 12/28/19 Dec 28, 2019
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS White Jesus's birthday (Christmas) was sprinkled with lots of dialog around the impeachment of President Donald J. Trump. #4MoYears Among the turmoil and conclusion of 2019 (so I been told), The C.O.W.S. survived and made it to Orlando, Florida for our 2019 Counter-Racist Yoga Retreat. We'll hear from C.O.W.S. listeners who traveled to the sunshine state to enjoy yoga, plant-based meals, counter-racist workshops and 80-degree weather in December. If things go well, and no one wants to butcher Gus, we're planning to be in Toronto, Ontario Canada for May 21st to May 24th. #GetYourPassport Gus's tripped will be marked by the passing of broadcast journalist titan. Suspected Race Soldier Don Imus died at age 79. In 2007, Imus famously called black females on the Rutgers University basketball team "nappy headed hoes." He was fired... before being transferred to FOX. #COWSFloridaRetreat INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

The C.O.W.S. Mumia Abu Jamal's LIVE FROM DEATH ROW Part 3 Dec 27, 2019
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy hosts our third study session on Mumia Abu-Jamal's Live From Death Row. Last week's session detailed the myriad of ways White guards eviscerate the health and sanity of mostly black inmates. Toxic and low quality food items, non-existent medical treatment, and limited or no access to fresh water or people describes how many any greater confinement spend months or years of their lives. It seemed the sound of male prisoners being beaten and cursed has been ubiquitous for Mumia. #ReadingIsMoreImportantThanWatchingTelevision INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

    The C. O. W. S. w/ Dr. Thomas A. Foster: Sexual Abuse of Black Male Slaves Dec 22, 2019
    Show notes

The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Thomas A. Foster. The associate dean for faculty affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University and a professor in the department of history, Dr. Foster's fields of study include gender, sexuality, slavery, and U.S. slavery. Dr. Foster first came to our attention courtesy of Dr. Tommy Curry, who regularly references Dr. Foster's 2011 report, "The Sexual Abuse of Black Men Under American Slavery." The much anticipated full length investigation of this topic, Rethinking Rufus: Sexual Violations of Enslaved Men, was published earlier this year. We'll explore how White Women and White Men sexually terrorized black males at will. Dr. Foster points to routine fetishization of black male bodies during this time - which included keeping them a few stitches of cloth from being naked. Having one's body exposed, penetrated or required to penetrated was a routine component of male slave life. #WhitesAreNotIgnorantAboutRacism INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS A remarkable week in US history concluded with President Donald J. Trump facing articles of impeachment from the United States Congress. Two of the last four presidents have been impeached, and as with Bill Clinton in the '90's, there's no indication that the Trumps will be vacating the White House. #4MoYears Speaking of history, Virginia football coach Herman Boone died this week. He was known for winning an undefeated state championship the season the school district "integrated" - which was dramatized by Denzel Washington in Walt Disney's "Remember The Titans." In Mississippi, Curtis Flowers was released on bail after being convicted on six different occasions for four murders. He's been caged for over two decades and was sentenced to be executed, but the Supreme Court overturned his death sentence "finding that prosecutors had shown an unconstitutional pattern of excluding African American jurors in the trials of Flowers, who is black," writes Time. In Tulsa, Oklahoma, mass graves have been unearthed which suggests substantially more black people were slaughtered during the 1921 Terrorist Attack. Early estimates tally 300 corpses. #BlackIdentityExtremist INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

Jimmy Kennedy, a retired NFL player, attempted to register for premium services. Apparently, even NFL niggras are not authorized for premium banking. #WorkplaceRacism INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#

The Context of White Supremacy hosts our second study session on Mumia Abu-Jamal's Live From Death Row. A father, journalist and former Black Panther Party Member, Abu-Jamal has been a Pennsylvania inmate since 1981. We'll examined how much has changed - or not - since this book's original publication. Last week's session focused on the 1987 Supreme Court case McCleskey v. Kemp. Mumia notes that a key piece of evidence from this case is that defendants charged with killing someone classified as White in Georgia are 4.3 times more likely to receive a death sentence compared to someone charged for killing a black person. He quotes Yale Law scholar Robert Burt, who processed the McCleskey decision by saying: "Law enforcement in the most serious cases is entrusted predominantly to groups of white men who value white lives more than black lives; and thus take special vengeance on blacks who murder whites... as if our society were gripped by fears about, and prepared to take preemptive strikes against, an explosion of race warfare." #ReadingIsMoreImportantThanWatchingTelevision INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE 564943#
