The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 7th study session on Isabel Wilkerson's 2020 offering, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. A Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Wilkerson received a 2015 National Humanities Award from former President Barack Obama and garnered widespread acclaim for her 2010 publication, The Warmth of Other Suns. Caste examines different regions of the world where groups of individuals are mistreated because they are not White. Wilkerson explores Nazi Germany, India and the United States. Gus and many C.O.W.S.'s listeners raved about Wilkerson's debut publication, but this volume gets worse by the chapter. And a listener alerted Gus that Ms. Wilkerson was married to a White Man, Brett Hamilton. In fact, her #TragicArragment apparently becomes a part of the text we're reading. During last week's session, Wilkerson continues to insist that White people are unwitting, ignorant, unconscious, suckers as it relates to the System of White Supremacy. She describes the System of Racism as being "unspoken," all while superficially discussing red-lining, sun down towns, and other explicit forms of terrorism. Disgustingly, Wilkerson echoes the same stale and incorrect notions that White Supremacy is solely practiced by White Men, writing that Racism "Endangered the life of... white women in the Jim Crow South." In addition to minimizing the role of Racist Women, Wilkerson continually posits that poor White people are tricked into working against their own interest and blaming their tribulations on dark people. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog. #ANTIBLACKNESS In the midst of a controversial U.S. presidential election, a disputed Supreme Court Justice nomination, and the conclusion of hurricane season, the rona is undaunted. Infection rates are reportedly soaring in the United Kingdom and Europe, causing massive lockdowns and hefty fines for breaking social distancing measures. In the states, an NFL game was postponed after numerous players tested positive. College football lord and Suspected White Supremacist Nick Saban of the University of Alabama also tested positive. All the major "horror days" are in peril as trick-or-treating and even "Thanksgiving" gatherings are widely discouraged. Democratic presidential candidate continues to hold a double-digit lead over President Donald J. Trump in most polls. Ongoing suspicions about "voter suppression" and warnings about potential election unrest and/or violence sound eerily similar to the 2000 presidential election. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. During last week's broadcast we discussed a young black male who's set to attend college at the beginning of the new year. Unfortunately, he's planning to share an apartment with two White males and a non-white male with one White parent. Last week, we discussed potential problems with young, college-aged Racists as well as strategies to remain safe. We'll revisit this discussion with updated information. We'll also discuss tips for keeping safe in the workplace - including being prepared to work from home should there be another lockdown. And a listener alerted Gus that Ms. Wilkerson was married to a White Man, Brett Hamilton. In fact, her #TragicArragment apparently becomes a part of the text we're reading. During last week's session, Wilkerson continues to describe her 8 pillars of caste. She continues to insist that mistreatment on the basis of skin color is used "arbitrary." She continues to offer a pile of metaphors that further confuse the reader and detract from explaining why and how White Supremacy operates. She continues the pattern of describing Whites as damaged/co-victims of caste. Wilkerson also interspersed a re-telling of Admitted Racist Jane Elliott's 60-year-old "exercise." But President Trump ditched the hospital and his face mask - telling citizens he's here to lead. In Wolfe City, Texas's Jonathan Price was tased and shot to death by a White enforcement officer. The normal tacky barrage of tweets, hashtags and protests accompanied Price's demise. But then, social media posts attributed to Price appeared to minimize Racism, boast about good White people, and signal a hankering for White Women. Numerous folks used this as justification for celebrating Price's death or ceasing any activity to pursue justice for his killing. #BlackMisandry In Michigan, a gang of White Males plotted to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. Gus thought computer troubles would prohibit a live broadcast. However, #LearningALittleBitAboutEverything helped Gus acquire enough information to get his machine working long enough for us to broadcast. Much of the world focused on President Trump's positive Covid-19 test and how his infection has impacted the presidential election and daily affairs at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. It's unclear how many other staff members, guests or White House visitors may have contracted the virus. This further highlights the need to take the virus seriously even if your colleagues are downplaying the risks. We'll inquire how parents are navigating the restart of school. We'll also give our obligatory reminder that politics not be discussed in the workplace.
