The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly forum on Neutralizing Workplace Racism. In between grappling with the conclusion to a tacky election season and the typical racist holidays to conclude the year, Covid-19 restrictions and infections have prompted renewed closures. Numerous businesses around the globe have been forced to close again. Restaurants are crippled, while bars, gyms and other "non-essential" establishments are forced to reduce hours or remain shuddered completely. Several C.O.W.S. listeners report having their hours reduced and/or their typical work schedule drastically altered in response to the new round of restrictions. If there's a silver lining to all this, many non-white people may escape the customary crude celebrations for "turkey day" and White Jesus's birthday. However, there may still be calls for gift exchanges and holiday gatherings up some sort via zoom. Gus would encourage skipping all virtual holiday parties as well. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the 11th and final study session on Isabel Wilkerson's 2020 offering, Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. Wilkerson can stuff a storage area and a luggage set with the numerous (and well-earned) prizes she's garnered - often for writing about the mistreatment of black people. The Warmth of Other Suns is beloved by President Barack Obama and Gus T. Renegade alike. However, Caste is a shameful, pathetic offering and is cemented as the 2nd worst book Gus has read. The word "caste" is in the text more than 1,000 times according to word count - this does not include the title of the text. It frequently seems like one of the primary objectives of this text is to get black people to use the word "caste" as oppose to Racism/White Supremacy. During last week's section of the text, Wilkerson details President Obama's 2008 rise to the White House. She includes the birther movement and numerous insults Obama faced during his presidency. However, Wilkerson greatly minimizes the historic number of death threats Obama and his family faced during his presidency. Branding it an undercurrent of resentment, Wilkerson describes Trump's 2016 triumph as the response to White resentments and feelings of loss. Seemingly by obligation, Wilkerson returns to the Heather Heyer's 2017 killing. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Dr. Jane Dailey. An associate professor in History, the College, and the Law School at the University of Chicago, Dr. Dailey's research revolves around the relationship between race, sex, and politics in the post-Emancipation South. We'll examine her 2020 publication, White Fright: The Sexual Panic at the Heart of America's Racist History. The book explores more than a century of White paranoia about black males raping White White Women. Dailey adds no new analysis or greater understanding to this topic (which already has a mighty heap of scholarship) and generally has the same enormous voids as most other volumes: ignoring White male's sexual abuse of black males and White Women's sexual abuse of black males and females. The book also consistently implies that Whites often seek to keep Whites and black people "separate." With the chronic and undisputed White rape of black people, "separation" has never been the goal. This program is uniquely designed to encourage participation from non-white people outside the United States and Victims of White Supremacy who may not be able to join during our typical broadcast time. Like the Covid-19 health crisis, the System of White Supremacy is a global enterprise, so Victims of Racism should keep an international - if not universal - perspective when contemplating solving The Problem. The U.S. presidential election seems close to a conclusion, with Joe Biden poised to take the White House. We'll ask our international participants about how the election is being covered in their part of the world and if the black misandry that's a daily staple of U.S. reporting is present in the foreign press. We'll also ask about the response to new of a potential Covid-19 vaccine. Election season concluded and the calendar year has nearly expired, but there's no end in sight for the bedlam of 2020. Scores of listeners reported being badgered about the U.S. presidential election by co-workers. A number of listeners even reported being lured in making statements on the election and which candidate they supported. Not one person reported getting a raise, promotion or extra hand sanitizer after disclosing their views. We barely survived the rona, a slightly blunted but still plenty tacky Halloween, only to have the full escalation of holiday season. We'll remind listeners about the dangers of holiday parties or kicking it too hard during the end of year festivities. Wilkerson can stuff a storage area and a luggage set with the numerous (and well-earned) prizes she's garnered - often for writing about the mistreatment of black people. Earlier in the text, she references Thabo Sefolosha's police beating without naming the NBA star. More recently, she described the 2018 police killing of Botham Jean in Texas. He too went unnamed. This is in contrast to the earlier name dropping of Heather Hayer - a White Woman killed in Charlottesville. Additionally, Wilkerson posits that White Women are also victims of "discrimination," but she offers no data to explain who is abusing White Women or how their situation compares to the caste oppression inflicted on black people. Wilkerson adds more personal anecdotes on ways she has been a victim of caste. She details how a dominant caste male molested her while on board a flight. She makes precise mention of how the lead black male flight attendant was worthless in helping her. The Context of White Supremacy welcomes Professor Paul Ortiz. The Samuel Proctor Oral History Program and associate professor of history at the University of Florida, Professor Ortiz teaches undergraduate courses and supervises graduate fields in African American history, Latina/o & Latinx history, comparative ethnic studies, U.S. South, labor, social movement theory, oral history, digital humanities, ethnography and other topics. His 2006 publication, Emancipation Betrayed: The Hidden History of Black Organizing and White Violence in Florida from Reconstruction to the Bloody Election of 1920, was awarded the Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore Book Prize. Gus discovered Professor Ortiz's work while reading Isabel Wilkerson's Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents. Caste references the history of White Terrorism against black people who attempted to vote. Specifically, Wilkerson cites Ortiz's research on the 1920 Ocoee, Florida massacre - where dozens of black people were murdered for attempting to vote. We'll place this in context of our current presidential election. We'll get Professor Ortiz's thoughts on the Caste as well as the notion that black males are to blame for unfavorable election results. Pay particular attention to Professor Ortiz's response to his racial classification. The U.S. presidential election was finally decided on Saturday. Democratic candidate Joe Biden was declared the victor over President Trump as ballot counting continues. The president vows to contest the results. Biden has assured voters he and Kamala Harris will take the White House in January. Protests have raged in the streets, but as of yet, no out of control criminal activity. FBI agents report arresting a man who threatened violence if Trump is not re-elected. Speaking of violence, more details were revealed about White, 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse.
