    The Brown Liquor Report

THE BROWN LIQUOR REPORT was birthed at the intersection of friends reuniting over heated and humorous discussion about politics and pop culture, chicken and liquor. It has quickly evolved from just an innovative way to catch up and share thoughts on hot topics, to a hot weekly podcast with an ever-growing following. It has emerged as a unique voice for Generation Xers who find themselves straddling ratchet and responsibility. It is the podcast for those who want to learn more about social justice, pop culture, and politics while enjoying the best 90’s hip hop beats and a pour of their favorite vice, free of judgment.

    Ep. 107 - GIANTS, Lions, and Bears...Oh My! May 29, 2018
    Show notes

May is mental health awareness month. Last year we brought you, “You Good?” with Nick Gaines to discuss and unpack mental health and treatment in the black community. We’re continuing this conversation by recapping one of our favorite web series entitled "Giants" featuring James Bland, Vanessa Baden Kelly and Sean Samuels. This show follows three millennials determined to live life on their own terms, no matter the cost, and what they learn as they deal with pursuing purpose, love, spirituality and dealing with mental health challenges. THIS EPISODE CONTAINS SPOILERS!! But first, the hot topics that drove us to drink: The reckoning has started at the White House in the form of a large sink hole on the white house lawn; the Santa Fe High School shooting and Bullying vs. Patriarchy: Betsy Devos is as evil as she looks; and why Harry and Meghan help destigmatize mental health across the pond and beyond. #giants #mentalhealth #royalwedding #betsydevos #immigration #DontStopListenListen #trapbrew

    Ep. 106 - Dear White Supremacy May 21, 2018
    Show notes

It's the new new from your favorite podcast crew! Dear White People, having a background that includes a degree from a top tier university doesn't protect you from being racist! Shout out to Adam Schlossberg and that professor from Stanford University. It actually makes you more likely to perpetuate foolishness. We talk about why in this week's episode. We also take time to discuss how this translates to the political support that created the dangerous situation in the Gaza strip. And another tragic and senseless school shooting claims lives of our children. How do we take our grief and moral outrage and translate it in to political support and action to make schools safer for kids? And lastly, Muva Janet gets her due with a lifetime award from the Billboards. This comes on the heels of the 25 anniversary of her album, "Janet". We're here for all of it! All this and more on this week's episode. #DontStopListenListen #trapbrew #janet #dearwhitepeople #gaza #israel

    Ep. 105 - You Can't Outdo Black Folks May 14, 2018
    Show notes

It's the new new from your favorite podcast crew. We're back with a new episode from our new recording space (shout out to Clout!). This week we're talking about how to engage art and our expectations on how it challenges us to look at things from a different perspective. So, is "This is America" brilliant or garbage? Same question applies to any attempt of Azealia Banks and her penchant for drumming up drama prior to her next release, Fantasea II. And while we'd prefer to never have to talk about white tears again, Oakland gave us life in response to a colonizer's attempt at shutting down the cookout. This sparked a larger conversation around folks' attempts to privatize public spaces. All this and more on this new episode. #DontStopListenListen #RedCupRatchetSeasonIsUponUs #colonizers #oakland #donaldglover #ThisIsAmerica #podsincolor #podcast #media

Ep. 104 - Harriet Would Have Cut Kanye's Foot Off For The Culture May 07, 2018
    Show notes

We're ready for our close up! Fresh off the high from our recent feature in the Washington City Paper about black and brown podcasters making noise and telling dope stories, we hunkered down at our new recording space to record a new episode. This week we talk a little more about everyone's favorite prodigal son, Kanye West and how far should we go to save one of our own. And while we found some humor in Michelle Wolf's roast of Sarah Huckabee Sanders, we recognize there is privilege in their jokes and spin respectively. We are different, we are POC. And Rudy Giuliani made sure to remind us that we are too poor to relate to wealthy folks struggle, like the woes of Sweet Potato Satan and his wayward narwal horn and reckless spending. And DJ Khaled and his no box diet...smh. All that and more on this week's episode. #DontStopListenListen #podcast #podsincolor

Ep. 103 - All Of Your Favorites Are Hot Garbage Apr 30, 2018
    Show notes

All of your favorites are hot ass garbage; the whole lot of them! Last week, this premise rang more true than ever with how your trash ass timeline reacted to Bill Cosby's verdict, Sunken Place Kanye's apparent endorsement of Donald Trump and Chance the rapper's subsequent tweet stating the obvious about black folks' relationship with the GOP, and you'r favorite rapper's favorite rapper, Nas, apparently was physically and verbally abusive to his ex-wife, Kelis, during their marriage. Also, Ben Carson, whom many of us looked up to when we were kids due to his book, Gifted Hands, continues to be a pile of steaming, rancid basura after proposing that public housing tenants' rents be tripled. What a week, but the go-go we rocked during this episode got us through! #gogo #music #podcast #billcosby #nas #chance #chancetherapper #kelis #domesticviolence #trash #basura #timeline #trapbrew #dontstoplistenlisten #blackmedia #independentmedia #kanyewest #DontStopListenListen #trapbrew

    Ep. 101 - Veni, Vitter, Vici Apr 16, 2018
    Show notes

Last week, we vowed to remove all of the raisins and parsnips from the potato salad of Taylor Swift and all of her kinfolk after she butchered "September" by THEEE Earth, Wind, and Fire, and James Comey still sucks even after spilling all of the Cheeto Satan tea for profit. Also, Mango Mussolini is continuing his journey to come, see, and conquer the judiciary; this time by nominating Wendy Vitter (whom is an especially trashy human being) to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana (New Orleans). Most recently, she refused to give an opinion on whether she agrees with the Supreme Court's ruling in the monumental Brown v. Board of Education case, which desegregated schools in 1954. Enjoy! #donstoplistenlisten #podcast #podsincolor #media #blackmedia #trash #orangetrash #vitter #unfittojudge

    Ep. 99 - Iyanla Can't Fix a Damned Thing, Beloved(feat. Here For It Podcast) Mar 19, 2018
    Show notes

Last week, we were joined by Supaman, one half of the award-winning Here For It podcast, as well as our family member Mike from Faith Uncut. Martell "TheeSupaman" Todd is a sexual health YouTube vlogger and PrEP advocate. Ronand Matters is a LGBT culture writer with over 100 million views to his blog RonaldMatters.com Here For It is a podcast dedicated to the black LGBT community. Their team offers colorful commentary on health and wellness topics, and was named one of the Top 100 Podcasts of 2017 and Top LGBTQ Podcasts of 2017 by Podcasts In Color. We discussed so much on this episode, including how Iyanla Vanzant probably couldn't even fix a drink, let alone a life; Jas Hands' indifference to the Carter family, their upcoming On the Run II tour, and whether they are price gouging their fans; and how future voters are leading the conversation on gun control. Here For It will also be doing a workshop at our "We The Culture: Age of the Digital Griot" conference, so we talked about that and the mission behind their really dope podcast. Enjoy y'all. Ep. 98 - Tiffany Haddish's White Dress and Ashy Morning Show Hosts Mar 13, 2018
    Show notes

This week's episode is classic BLR. We had chicken and whiskey. We got tipsy. And we pledged our allegiance to one another in this podcast game as we discussed double standards surrounding Tiffany Haddish and Ryan Coogler, A Wrinkle in Time v Black Panther; and ashy cohosts doing ashy things to members of their crew. Also, Tariq Nasheed is hotepping and two-stepping his way to the Top 40, and Montell Jordan and Mark Morrison don't like it one bit. #DontStopListenListen #minkslide #ashy #hoteptwostep #ashy #wakanda #awrinkleintime #wkys #trapbrew
