BBAS025: Anita Tessensohn (Intelligence Report Vol. 5) Feb 05, 2023

Show notes

We’re back with our fifth Intelligence Report episode here at The Bones Brigade Audio Show, and we couldn’t be more stoked- for joining us in the studio is none other than the legendary Anita Tessensohn! Featured prominently in one of Powell Peralta’s most iconic ads (1987’s “Some Girls Play With Dolls. Real Women Skate.”, which as of this recording is still being used by the company as a grip tape graphic) and game-changing videos (1988’s Public Domain), Anita’s skate career might have been cut short far too early, but as the first female street skater with a part in a major skate video, her contributions to skateboarding remain timeless and groundbreaking to this day. Tune in as we hear about Anita’s early days of skating in Oregon, getting sponsored, filming for Public Domain, riding for Powell while working at World Industries, and many more incredible tales. In addition, we’ll dip into an epic mailbag where some mind-blowing facts about the “Eight” video (check out our last episode) come to light. A wise woman once said “Anybody who wants to skate should skate”, so bust a kickflip off the nose and join us, shall you?

BBAS024: Eight with guest Brian Fair Jan 22, 2023

Show notes

Welcome back to the show! This week, the BBAS crew are dipping their toes- ever so slightly- into skateboarding’s mythical “new school” era, with an in-depth review of Powell Peralta’s often overlooked 1991 video Eight! Times they were a-changin’ in the early nineties, and Eight truly marks the end of an era for Powell, with several key team riders either left out of the video entirely or showcasing their final parts with the company as new brands, trends, styles and attitudes began to overwhelm the skateboarding status quo at an alarming rate. Joining Larry and Matt in the studio to tackle this beast is none other than Brian Fair, dreadlocked and grammy-nominated vocalist for the legendary bands Shadows Fall and Overcast- and certified lifelong skate rat of the highest order. Is there more to this video than Mike Frazier? Where are the skits? Where are the song lyrics? Is there anything Cab *can’t* do in the San Jose warehouse? As always, there’s only one way to find out- so preheat your oven to 425 degrees, toss in a tray of Mike McGill’s breaded fish sticks and join us, shall you?

BBAS017: Video Tunes Oct 16, 2022

Show notes

Welcome back, Brigadiers! This week on the Bones Brigade Audio Show, Larry and Matt hit the studio to examine a topic that has reared its head in numerous episodes: music! Or, to be more specific, what has been *perceived* by some guests and listeners with a keener ear as the *possible* appropriation of certain, shall we say, musical themes, found in songs recorded at the behest of a certain skateboarding company, soundtracking certain skateboarding videos…. Or something. We’re going to put these tracks side by side and check them out, and see just how far down this rabbit hole goes. Hey, it’s all in good fun, so come along for the ride! As always, we’ll dig into the mailbag, read some feedback, tell some tales, and have a good time. Join us, shall you?
