Welcome back, curb-whackers, to another exciting episode of The Bones Brigade Audio Show! Back in 1996, after a multi-year hiatus, the powers that be determined that enough time had passed since their self-imposed moratorium began, and it was time to start bringing pro models back into the lineup at Powell Skateboards. As the skate world breathed a collective sigh of relief at this news, those same powers that be decided that the best way to reintroduce everyone to this welcomed return to form was to produce four individual videos on VHS that would be packaged free with each different board that went out. Joining us to review these very promotional videos- for Steve Caballero, Mike Vallely, Mike Santarossa, and Jason Ellis, respectively- is none other than the legendary pro skateboarder, podcaster, chef, and skate historian of the highest order, Clyde Singleton! Clyde joined us in the BBAS studio to go over each of these relatively rare video parts- all very different in their own right, from Cab’s mini-documentary to Santarossa’s mini-movie- with the usual fine-toothed comb. What secrets will be unearthed? What tales will be told? What tricks will be discussed? Today, we are debuting a new segment here at The Bones Brigade Audio Show: the first installment of The SK8-TV files! Yes, by popular demand, we will be reviewing- sporadically- the entire thirteen-episode run of Nickelodeon’s legendary SK8-TV! Back in the olden days, when new skate videos were a once or twice a year affair, this Stacy Peralta and Craig Stecyk-masterminded basic cable opus acted as a much-needed lifeline of fresh viewing content for the seven ply-starved youth of America. Hosted by the one and only Skatemaster Tate and a young Matthew Lynn (who, as Matthew Lillard, would go on to an esteemed Hollywood acting career), SK8-TV lasted but a single season, yet left an undeniable mark on the world of skateboarding for an entire generation. To kick us off on our adventure, we are welcoming to the BBAS studio, Mark Hunt; a lynchpin of the SK8-TV operation from its inception that acted in multiple integral roles including Producer, Filmer, Editor, Show Advisor, and everything in between. Mark was kind enough to give us (and you!) the entire behind-the-scenes rundown on the show, from beginning to middle to end.
