377: CEO Day - Strategic Planning: Defining Goals, Objectives, Tactics Jul 11, 2019
    Show notes

Are you struggling with how to prioritize new opportunities or ideas? Are you stuck in research mode and not ready to move forward? Are you on a path you no longer want to be on? Join me for a Strategic Planning session.

I walk you through a process used in large organizations that will help you know what to focus on and WHEN. Most business owners are trying to do too many things at once and struggle with prioritizing.

Next time you are presented with something new, you can easily determine if it aligns with your goals and objectives by reviewing your strategic plan! You will know what to say YES to, what to say NO to and what to say NOT RIGHT NOW to.

I also cover when to bring your team into this process, and that differs based on your leadership style.

Part of Strategic Planning is determining your Vision which I discussed in the previous episode.

The Strategic Objectives I cover today are adapted from Peter Drucker "the father of modern management":

    1. Marketing/Visibility
    2. Innovation/Product Growth
    3. People/Culture
    4. Financial Growth
    5. Physical Resources (hardware, software, office space)
    6. Processes/Operations (systems, productivity, tools)
    7. Customer Satisfaction

If you enjoyed this episode, I would be honored if you would share it with a friend.

369: How to Step Into Thought Leadership with Carmen Landrau May 09, 2019
    Show notes

What is thought leadership? Are you a thought leader?

To me, thought leadership is about sharing your ideas, ideologies, methodologies, frameworks…etc with others. This could be via a book, a podcast, a blog, video content, speaking, TEDx talks, teaching. It's all about finding your audience and sharing your knowledge and expertise.

In this episode, you'll hear the inspirational story that cardiologist Carmen Landrau shares. She's a board-certified physician who specializes in cardiology. But, after having taken brave steps towards making a big change in her career, she is now a professional keynote speaker. Carmen uses her experiences in navigating a male dominated and hierarchical career to empower other women to recognize their talents, regain confidence, and take the next steps in their career and life.

Carmen shares how she handled imposter syndrome and really had to work on her mindset whilst establishing herself as a speaker. It was not easy, but it was not impossible.

    We discuss:

    • How gaining visibility takes time and patience, and why connections are so important
    • Developing a speaking career – what's involved, knowing your avatar, being prepared, working with a coach, and the biggest challenges to overcome
    • Why it's so important to know your avatar and key stakeholders - how do they want to receive your message and what resonates with them?
