BHP Shorts 039: Contact Vs Stance Sep 23, 2019
    Show notes

There is a saying in both baseball and golf that how we make contact is more important than how we stand.

This lesson holds within it, several deeper lessons about connection, communication, leadership, and impact.

Whether we swing a stick at a ball or not, I'll argue that this adage can help us create, connect, communicate, and lead more effectively.

After all, how we make contact with other humans - the connection - is, in many ways more important than our stance.

    Tired of sports analogies?

Art, in all its forms is about connection.

Film, literature, painting... whatever the medium, the trick for the artist is to make the observer feel what the artist feels.

How about cooperative efforts within teams, organizations, and societies... stances, beliefs and ideas will always vary between individuals. The ability to come together (point of impact) effectively is what precipitates ideal outcomes.

To that end, contact is more important than stance.

Said another way, if we want greater impact, we need to think about our points of contact and connections. Can they be improved?

TUNE IN to today's BHP Short for more.

    Tired of sports analogies?

Art, in all its forms is about connection.

Film, literature, music, painting… whatever the medium, the trick for the artist is to create an experience that causes the observer to feel what the artist feels.

If this connection does not occur the art will not be met with critical acclaim.

Stress test this: name one piece of art you love that doesn’t somehow connect with you or vice versa.

How about cooperative efforts within teams, organizations, and societies? Stances, beliefs and ideas will always vary between individuals. The ability to come together (point of impact) effectively is what precipitates ideal outcomes.

BHP Shorts 038: Buffer Days & Brain Dumps Sep 16, 2019
    Show notes

Let's be honest, life can sometimes feel crazy, chaotic, even overwhelming.

In today's BHP Short, I'm sharing two of my go-to strategies to protect my sanity and productivity - Buffer Days and Brain Dumps.

These two tactics - used in tandem, or by themselves - help us hold the space for ourselves that is required to identify, prioritize and execute the best uses of our time.

Block out the noise and distractions.

Be present - if our minds are THERE, we're not HERE.

And if we're not HERE, we're not focused on the thing we're doing or the people we're with.

Remember, focus is a prerequisite for the flow we all want more of.

    The answer isn't more.

Often times, the answer is less. Less, but better.

TUNE IN to hear how you can use Buffer Days and Brain Dumps to protect your sanity and boost your productivity. This episode also features a full update on upcoming projects and a new book recommendation for you readers.

BHP Shorts 037: The Deep End Sep 09, 2019

Those who WANT to swim in the deep end, usually jump right in.

When I owned my performance training facility, House Of Strength, I had countless potential members tell me they "needed to get in shape before they could workout here."

I say the same thing now that I told them every time: I'm calling BS on that one.

First of all, great coaches know how to meet you where you and help you progress from there... but I digress.

The lesson here isn't about the coach/mentor.

The lesson here is not to give ourselves an OUT before we begin.

People who want to swim in the deep end of the pool usually use the diving board

The wading in gives us an opportunity to turn back if we change our minds.

Cannonballs and gainers don't provide the same escape clause.

Once we decide and commit, there is no going back.

    Mental Health, Awareness and Consciousness

When I spoke last month at Buckley Air Force Base outside Denver, Colorado, I shared the stage with a great friend and amazing human, Mr. Rick Alexander.

Halfway through the event, while the attendees were at lunch, we looked at each other and simultaneously said "We're onto something here! How do we do more of this?!"

Last week, Rick and I sat down in front of a whiteboard and created a new seminar, titled Answering The Call: How High Performers Think.

We'll be delivering this talk to military installations and corporations across the country in the coming months.

This episode is an open conversation about the seminar, why we felt the need to create it, and how we plan to make a dent in the Universe - and help thousands of great men and women in the process.
