Ep. 175: Rewriting Your Old Food Narratives Jul 04, 2020
    Show notes

For those of us that have ever had a complicated relationship with food, it can be a struggle to unlearn all the absolutism we assign to what we eat. All diets stem from a place of scarcity, and when you’re constantly operating from that place, your relationship with food can quickly be corrupted. Scarcity leads to a cycle of deprivation and bingeing. If you want to master moderation and learn to eat the same way every day of the week, first you must uncover these limiting narratives in your life and learn to feel more abundant around food.

    Fight food FOMO [4:42]

The deprive then binge cycle [7:10]

Pre-emptive cheats to stop the bingeing [12:19]

    Question the old narratives [13:51]

There’s always more where that came from [21:46]

    Share food more often [22:02]

There’s a lot going on in the world. We want to make a difference and to speak out, but finding the right thing to say feels impossible. Staying silent isn’t always the right answer, but what do you say when you just don’t know what to say? There comes a moment in all of our lives where we find ourselves faced with the overwhelming task of starting over. New jobs, new relationships, new cities, and new opportunities can feel like an unfair burden. But rather than sit and complain about what should have been, maybe we can learn to reframe starting over, and appreciate it as a time to reinvent yourself and the same old ways of life. Time is going to pass anyways, might as well take control of where you’re headed.

    Show notes

Being a kid is great. You get to play all day, there are never any difficult decisions to make, and it never even occurs to you to be anything less than confident all day long. But just because being a kid is so much fun doesn’t mean growing up is all bad. In fact, we love being an adult even more than the innocence and freedom of childhood. In this episode, Jill and Danny reflect on the top 3 things they miss about being kids, and their top 3 favorite parts about being an adult. What are yours?

    Saturday morning cartoons [2:43]

No food or body image issues [4:22]

Anticipation of liking a boy at school [5:33]

    Playing outside [7:33]

    No decisions needed [10:00]

No self-awareness, and all the confidence [10:47]

Loving the autonomy of adulthood [13:35]

Question the rules you set for yourself [16:57]

    Sex & Masturbation [20:04]

Ep. 171: Your Limiting Beliefs Are Holding You Back Jun 06, 2020
    Show notes

We all have a story we tell ourselves. I’m too old, too stupid, too ugly. We believe these stories without a second thought as to where they came from, and base our identities and futures upon them. So how do we isolate these limiting beliefs and stop them from taking control of our lives? Personal growth is a lifelong process, and in order to reach our full potential, we have to give up the negative self talk that prohibits us from living the Best Life.

    Anti-racism resources [1:53]

What is a limiting belief? [7:18]

Feelings of unworthiness and scarcity [8:33]

    Battling perfectionism [10:22]

    Taking failure personally [13:59]

    Be better, not perfect [19:36]

Beliefs about not making enough money [25:11]

One person’s disadvantage is another person’s advantage [27:01]

    Relationship scarcity [29:11]

Becoming the best version of yourself [32:45]

The stories we tell ourselves [34:28]

    Relatability and responsibility [38:14]

The greatest enemy to success is success [46:27]

Getting out of the comparison trap [47:42]

Ep. 170: Can People Change? Jun 03, 2020
    Show notes

Before we get any further, we at the Best Life Podcast want to make one thing clear: Black lives matter. We are fully committed to being life-long learners on how best to show up for our Black sisters and brothers, and taking down racism on both a systemic level and within the implicit biases we may have.

Today, we wanted to ask an important question. Can people change? We certainly aren’t the same people we have always been. Change is a part of life, but it isn’t something you can force upon others. People will change when they are ready to.

Making a commitment to unlearning and taking down racism on all levels [2:49]

    Being a life-long learner [3:56]

If you’re feeling triggered, ask yourself why? [6:25]

    Can people really change? [10:58]

How many chances does someone get before it’s time to move on? [12:42]

Be OK with people as they are, not as they could be [14:10]

    Not everything can be a non-negotiable [17:09]

There has to be incentive to change [19:19]

Look at someone’s actions NOW [21:56]

Am I willing to forgive and move on? [25:46]

    Affirming positive behavior [27:45]

Ep. 169: Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You May 29, 2020
    Show notes

Letting go is hard. From our physical possessions to our jobs, and even our relationships, getting rid of the things in our lives can set off a lot of fear. But when you let something go, you create space for something even better. So, let’s stop holding on to that excess baggage—toss out your old clothing, get rid of that broken piece of equipment you’ll never actually fix, and dump that man who’s holding you back. It’s time to make space for the Best Life that you deserve.

Ep. 168: To Cuss or Not to Cuss in Your Online Content May 28, 2020
    Show notes

It’s no secret that we fuckin’ love to swear. Cussing is divisive, but to be honest… we don’t give a fuck. When we swear, we’re showing our authentic selves to you knowing that while it may turn some away, the right people will still be here. If swearing isn’t your thing, that’s cool! No one will force you to say or hear anything that isn’t in line with your own value system. But goddamn it, we’re going to cuss, and we’re gonna have a great time doing it.

The conscious choice to use cuss words in content [2:33]

Ep. 167: Letting Go of Your Grudges When You Just Don't Want To May 22, 2020
    Show notes

They say holding a grudge is like drinking poison and hoping the other person dies. So then why is it so easy and—seemingly—so satisfying? The truth is, holding on to our hurts only prevents us from being our highest, happiest selves. Of course, letting go of the past is easier said than done, but when we forgive, we gain freedom and take one more step towards living the Best Life.

Digging your heels in when it’s time to be the bigger person [1:31]

You can be right, or you can be at peace [5:58]

It feels good to feel bad [7:29]

Ep. 166: What Holds You Accountable? May 20, 2020
    Show notes

What holds you accountable? For some, motivation and accountability come as naturally as a duck takes to water, but the rest of us might need a little more. In this episode, Danny and Jill discuss the various ways we can be held accountable in our work—be it through a coach, personal deadlines, competition with others, and everything in between… but the real secret to accountability? It’s getting clear on why you need the motivation in the first place, and finding the strategies that work best for you.

Does hiring someone to hold you accountable work? [2:18]

Expectations of perfection can turn you away [4:43]

Money as an accountability tool [6:16]

Examining the fears holding you back from putting yourself on the hook [8:41]

    External motivation and competition [10:17]

Ask why you need the motivation in the first place [13:35]

Loss, process, or outcome pain [17:13]

Setting deadlines and not letting down clients or employees [21:04]
