Ep. 275: How to Enjoy Your Money (Guilt-Free) Apr 21, 2022
    Show notes

There’s something about money that makes a lot of people insecure. Many will judge anyone they deem “more successful” than them, so often that it feels really scary to share any aspect of your financial success. The fear of “showing off” stops us from talking about our success at all! But who is that really helping? People are going to think whatever they want about you, and there’s not really anything you can do to control it. So how do you enjoy the financial success you’ve worked hard for, guilt free? Let’s talk about it.

    A (less-than-stellar) review [2:18]

    Enjoying financial success, guilt-free [8:17]

The fear of “showing off” [11:40]

Justifying, qualifying, and downplaying your success [13:56]

You can’t control others’ perception [15:26]

The taboo of talking about money (and the stuff no one mentions) [18:36]

How to turn off the voice that tells you not to talk about money [21:42]

Do men apologize for their money? [26:54]

On being the “broke” friend [28:51]

Have the conversation with the people you’re close to [31:44]

Fuck anyone who treats you less because you have less [33:59]

Ep. 273: Do the Damn Thing with the Movement Maestro Apr 14, 2022
    Show notes

We have on a guest this week after a long, long time without any. So excited to get this chance to chat with The Movement Maestro herself, Shanté Cofield. We’ve had her on before (in fact she was one of our first guests!) and if you don’t already know and lover her, what the fuck are you doing?! Shanté’s motto is short and sweet: do the damn thing. The rules of life are made up… so just do whatever the hell you want. You don’t have to wait to be happy.

Shanté’s run in with a raccoon (and a mugging) [3:55]

Doing the thing is simple, but not easy [13:53]

It’s all made up, so why not me? [15:07]

Relating in the face if difference [23:50]

You have to like what you’re doing [45:22]

    Ep. 272: Is "Anti-Aging" Wrong? Apr 09, 2022
    Show notes

We’re all getting older, whether we want to or not. And we do not want. Like… at all. We do a lot of things in the name of “anti-aging” but is that a problem? Is focusing on anti-aging the same thing as fad dieting? In our opinions, it’s all about perspective. You can look young, and still feel just as shitty inside as someone who looks “older.” What’s most important is that you feel your best.

    What’s wrong with “anti-aging”? [3:48]

It’s only as damaging as you let it be [5:03]

Understanding our own personal biases [7:21]

Aging is inevitable, but you can stay open-minded [10:24]

The only thing we can control is our relationship with aging [14:29]

You can change everything, and still feel shitty inside [18:05]

You like yourself more as you get older [20:09]

See things from another’s perspective [21:49]

    Ep. 271: Getting Over A Funk Apr 07, 2022
    Show notes

After the shit-show of 2020 ’til now, we’re left in a funk. On a global level, and a personal level, it’s been hard! And even though it sucks (and it sucks hard) it’ll all be okay. In this episode Danny walks you through how to get yourself out of a funk. Because after all, no one can save you, except you. You have to save yourself.

If you’re going through a funk, you are not alone [1:08]

Hormones, grief, or mental illness [4:32]

Are you depressed or just surrounded by assholes? [6:18]

    Is your environment shitty? [7:15]

    Biological and hormonal imbalances [9:30]

Depression and mental health is a real factor [11:44]

    It could be circumstance [14:29]

Recognizing the reasons so you can get some control [16:27]

Let yourself go through it [17:02]

    Counseling can really help [18:17]

Get outside (even if you have to force it) [19:17]

Journalling when the emotions are hard to surf [21:07]

Ep. 270: We CAN Do Hard Things, But We Don't Really Want To Apr 01, 2022
    Show notes

Have you seen people around the internet getting in ice baths and doing challenges like 75 Hard, while crying out, “we can do hard things!”? Yeah, we have to. Just because you CAN do hard things, doesn’t mean you should. Isn’t life hard enough already? Hey, if you get something out of it, go ahead… but it ain’t gonna make you more prepared for the real life hard stuff we all face.

Doing hard things (just for the sake of it) [2:31]

Does everyone go through hard things? [3:33]

“Preparing” for loss by getting uncomfortable [6:04]

    Has society gotten soft? [8:51]

You can’t predict hard shit [11:27]

Take all the ice baths you want, but life is already hard [14:26]

Psychological results and building confidence [16:21]

    Ep. 269: Avoiding Burnout Mar 30, 2022
    Show notes

Does feeling burnt out by your work make you weak? Of course not! Burnout is real, and in our hustle culture, it’s more prevalent than ever. But if you hate your work, then you’re going to hate your life. There’s a better way. Either you have to learn to enjoy the process, or you’ll end up burnt out with nothing left to give. Because even if you don’t make the choice to ease up, your body might force you too. Let’s figure out how to kick ass, but sustainably for our bodies and our minds.

Does feeling burnout make you soft? [2:42]

Find a way to “run” at a sustainable pace [4:49]

The harder you rest, the harder you can push [8:06]

Relaxing into it when the finish line keeps moving [11:35]

If it’s gonna be a grind, you can’t hate the process [15:31]

Finding fun along the way [17:52]

What’s the secondary benefit of you staying? [20:59]

There are more jobs out there [23:40]

Either you choose to end it, or your body chooses for you [26:16]

Ep. 268: Mowing the Lawn in Your Relationships Mar 26, 2022
    Show notes

Just like lawns, relationships need mowing. The longer you’re with someone, the easier it gets to push things under the rug, to ignore feelings, to harbor resentments… and its easy to take the good times for granted too! Relationships (both romantic and platonic) need upkeep. Here’s how we mow our lawns, how do you mow yours? And by lawns we’re definitely not talking about pubes, unless that’s your thing.

Does your relationship need some watering? [3:47]

    Hyper-vigilance after infidelity [4:18]

    Schedule time to re-connect [7:51]

Conversations don’t have to mean something is wrong [8:32]

    Bank the good days [10:04]

Learning to pick + choose your battles [12:45]

    Therapy can be preventative [17:31]

    Filter your negative feelings [19:02]

If you don’t schedule it, it doesn’t get done [23:03]

Sometimes you just need a fight [24:54]

Ep. 267: How to Disagree (And Still Be Friends) Mar 23, 2022
    Show notes

Everything feels more than just a little contentious these days. People fight on the internet and cut off family or friends over the smallest disagreements. If you ask us, its just a little immature. Nobody has to like every single thing you do, or have the exact same opinions! Believe it or not, there’s a way to disagree and still be friends—even on “bigger” issues. Even Danny and Jill don’t agree on everything.

Everyone is in their own online echo-chamber [1:40]

Losing friends over different opinions [2:53]

Engaging in the conversation makes us better [6:32]

Is it immature to cut people out of your life? [7:15]

Allowing space for changing opinions [9:15]

It doesn’t have to be a “hell yes” or a “hell no” [14:47]

To be (or not to be) vaccinated [19:06]

    Self-righteousness and nuance [23:23]

Understand who YOU are and your own actions [25:50]

Respecting opinions, even if you don’t agree [32:10]

    It takes emotional maturity [35:34]

Try seeing things from a different perspective [39:18]

Ep. 266: Why We Think Bad Business Investments Don't Exist Mar 19, 2022
    Show notes

It’s been a minute since we’ve gotten a little biz-nasty, and we thought it was about time. Danny and Jill are entrepreneurs, and investment is a huge part of running your own businesses. That begs the question: have they ever made a BAD investment? The shocking truth is, no. And not because they have some supernatural sixth sense to sniff out bullshit every time, but because we really don’t think bad investments actually exist. Yup. Learning a lesson is ALWAYS worth it, no matter how you learn it.

    Investment can be scary! [1:13]

Putting yourself on the hook makes you pay attention [2:47]

You either lose or you learn [6:27]

    Jill’s $10,000 investment [9:27]

From “I can’t afford it” to “How can I afford it?” [11:45]

    Reframing your expectations [16:29]

There are no “bad” investments [19:47]

A plane ticket to success [23:02]

If it saves you time, it’s worth it [27:36]
