We are quickly racing through the month of May, and remember, next week is the finale of American Idol "BBQ Central Show" Edition so be sure to tune in for the first (and last) round of live singing! Anyway, leading off the 3rd Tuesday of the month is the creator of the Barbecue Bible and the most prolific BBQ book writer of all time, Steven Raichlen. Steven has been picked as the HPBA "Why I grill" ambassador so we will talk to him about that. In this “Best Moments” show I visited with Andy Husbands, who was on the show right before all this disease landed on us, and we were talking about his latest book at that point “Wicked Good Burgers” which he co-wrote with Chris Hart...the I-Que Pitmaster (and legend). It is still widely considered to be one of the best Burger Cookbooks out there and the content has stayed incredibly relevant to this day...because, well, IT’S BURGERS!! Hard to beat a well executed burger...I could make the argument that the simpler the method, toppings and so on...THE BETTER the burger is!! Not always true with other dishes...but definitely true in the burgers case. (May 12, 2020 - Hour Two) In the 2nd hour, we shall continue to the Barbecue Hall of Fame talk as I convene a panel of extremely distinguished and accomplished guests to break down the semifinalist of 9. All of the panel members are currently on the Barbecue Hall of Fame nominating committee. They are Ray (Dr. BBQ) Lampe, Adrian Miller and Daniel Vaughn. I will allow these guys to introduce themselves and tell us what makes them such a good fit for this committee, and then, we will run down the list of names and talk about their contributions to the live fire industry. Hopefully, at the end, we will all feel comfortable enough to give our own "hypothetical list" of 3 that we would like to see ushered into the HOF this year. Tonight we discuss his repeat appearance on the semifinalist list for the 2020 Barbecue Hall of Fame. 2019 was his first time on the list and he didn't make the cut. Does making the list a 2nd year in a row increase his chances and what does he think his shot at getting in this year is? I will also ask him to make his case publicly for inclusion to the living Hall of Fame members. After Meathead, I will be joined by the creators and hosts of the Pitmaster's Podcast, Rusty Monson and Anthony Lujan. Both guys are pitmasters of their own competition teams but they come together each week to produce a slickly done podcast talking to big names in the live-fire industry. Tonight I have them on to talk about their experience this past weekend in Lehi, UT at an SCA event. How many people were there, how was it put together compared to a regular setting, what (if any) safety measures were taken in keeping with distance regulations and so forth and why did they want to do this in the first place?
