143: DEEPLY FELT PAIN -- Could Your Organs Be the Problem? Jun 20, 2023
    Show notes

Pain management is a pain in the neck, but did you know that your neck pain could be a result of lung dysfunction? Or, your liver may be the cause of your frozen shoulder? Maybe your pain is worse at night and wakes you up. Is there a strong emotional component? Does it make you sweat or feel nauseous? 142: Pre, Pro, Post, Syn-Biotics -- The Before, During, and After of Probiotics Jun 14, 2023
    Show notes

If you want to have a flourishing and diverse microbiome (PRO), you’re going to need to feed the inhabitants you want the resources that they want (PRE) and give them appropriate shelter and a community that embraces them (TERRAIN). In some cases, you may want your transient and colonizing immigrant microbial friends to bring some food for the trip (SYN). That way they can directly support the social economy of your gut with their interactions with other bugs (both bad and good) and indirectly with their metabolic contribution (POST) to the superorganism that you are without having to worry about where they're going to get their next meal.
Check out this week's episode where we talk about the before, during, and after of probiotics.

    141: Oh-meg-erd! Oils for every one? Jun 06, 2023
    Show notes

If you were to compile a “I’m new to Naturopathic Medicine” starter pack, chances are you’d include vitamin D, fibre (or PRE/SYN/PRO/POST-biotics), and marine sourced omega 3 oils.
Perhaps you’d agree that the best of the bunch is the #omega-3 rich marine oils?
Yes, vitamin D has been the darling of integrative medicine for about 15 years … and yes, a good fibre such as #psyllium can craft an enviable stool and microbiome … but the impact of omega-3 fats on inflammation, cellular and mitochondrial membrane structure, cardiovascular health, cognitive and neurological function, carcinogenesis, metabolic syndrome (and the list could go on and on) is vast, deep, and well researched.
The study of these fats is so important and impactful that it has likely changed the way we think about inflammation.
So put that dirty canola oil back on the shelf … in the garage, next to the WD40.
If you’re feeling 6’s and 7’s about your alphas and omegas then let’s chat 3’s and 6’s.
