163: LISTENING WITH YOUR HANDS: Learning About Connections in the Body with Visceral Manipulation Nov 15, 2023
    Show notes

'Feel first, think later' - Jean-Pierre Barral DO, PT
The importance of touch in medicine is underscored by its unique ability to facilitate diagnosis and treatment, offering clinicians a tactile understanding of the body's internal dynamics. Visceral manipulation, as pioneered by Jean-Pierre Barral, enriches this tactile dimension by providing practitioners with skills that provide a world of information that can complement and integrate with the other lenses through which we diagnose and, most importantly, improve our patients' lives.

161: TERRAIN OR PATHOGEN?: A Discussion on Managing Post-Infectious IBS Nov 01, 2023
    Show notes

Post-infectious irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a condition that can develop in some individuals after recovering from a gastrointestinal infection, such as food poisoning or a bacterial or viral infection. The importance of the patient's pre-existing health or terrain lies in the fact that individuals with a compromised or already sensitive gastrointestinal system may be more susceptible to developing post-infectious IBS. This condition is characterized by persistent digestive symptoms like abdominal pain, diarrhea, and bloating and underscores the need for comprehensive care and monitoring of the patient's digestive health both before and after an infection to prevent and manage such issues effectively.

158: ANDROGRAPHIS -- Packing a Powerful Punch for Immune Health Oct 04, 2023
    Show notes

If a patient presents with ‘heat’ or inflammatory symptoms, as well as a suspected infectious origin or contributor to the present condition, we must think of this herb
Andrographis paniculata, also known as "King of Bitters," has a rich history in traditional medicine that has been corroborated by more recent scientific investigations into its unequivocal application as an immune-invigorating herb that is most reliably applied to the treatment of ‘heat-related (i.e. inflammation and oxidative stress) respiratory tract infections. It has been studied extensively as a treatment or adjuvant treatment for COVID-19.
It is our opinion that this herb is likely more suited to punctuated or pulsed treatment regimens, rather than long-term use.

Join Dr. Michelle ND as she discusses the importance of biotherapeutic drainage, a naturopathic approach that aims to support the body's natural detoxification pathways. It involves the use of homeopathic remedies and botanical extracts to stimulate the excretion of toxins through the liver, kidneys, and other elimination channels. By promoting the proper functioning of these organs and systems, biotherapeutic drainage can enhance the body's ability to remove metabolic waste and environmental toxins, which must be eliminated in order to function optimally.

156: The Blood Brain Connection -- A Role for Glutathione in RBC Fragility and Neuroinflammation? Sep 20, 2023
Show notes There is an axiom in Traditional Chinese Medicine that goes a little something like this: ‘Blood is the mother of Qi, and Qi is the commander of Blood’.
They are interdependent, each needing the other to support life on a cellular level. Without blood, the nerve will die, and the blood requires the directing and integrating (yang) influence of the nerves to get to and from where it needs to nourish (yin).
Glutathione is thus critical for the biochemical function of the Mother and the Commander, and signs of RBC fragility and neuropathy may be good indications that you may benefit from a highly absorbable glutathione supplement, especially if you suffer from any chronic disease associated with oxidative stress.
