Franchise Player: A dummies guide to Ole Miss football's all-important Saturday scrimmage Aug 12, 2022

Show notes

On Saturday, Ole Miss football will hold a full-team scrimmage which now-third-year head coach Lane Kiffin recently described as, potentially, one of the most consequential of his career.

No pressure, though.

To preview, Ben Garrett and David Johnson are back with another edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247).

Don't worry, if you're not quite sure what to watch for inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, we've got a dummies guide to help get you through. The practice is open to both the public and media and will kick off at 11:30 a.m. CT.

Let's get after it.

James White is on breakout watch for Ole Miss basketball. And he knows it. Aug 11, 2022

Show notes

James White might be on breakout watch for Ole Miss basketball.

The emergence of the now-second-year Rebel guard was one of the few positives at the end of a forgettable 2021-22 season, and he's only continued his strong run of on-floor work over a taxing summer.

Ole Miss was a perfect 3-0 on his recent foreign tour to The Bahamas. White averaged 23.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. He also shot 64 percent from the field.

But White expects to get buckets, especially following some key departures, and the current absence of lead Ole Miss guard Daeshun Ruffin. He was most proud of how his hard work on his defense and rebounding showed up in game-like action.

He wants to be a leader, too, and he's refusing to let Ole Miss think anything less than the NCAA Tournament with the season opener steadily approaching in November.

Basically, James White is preparing for what could be his moment. But don't take our word for it. Hear from White himself.

Ole Miss QB Drama! Apparently Jaxson Dart can't get no respect Aug 11, 2022

Show notes

We've totally got DRAMA with the Ole Miss quarterbacks, and it has nothing to do with the on-field practice performance of either Jaxson Dart or Luke Altmyer.

Brandon Dart believes his son, the decorated USC transfer, can't get no respect. He obviously isn't a loyal listener of Talk of Champions, which features Ben Garrett of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Bradley Sowell, a former Ole Miss and NFL offensive lineman.

Bummer.

But, hey, Ben and Brad can sympathize, even if the elder Dart's frustration/anger/whatever is misplaced. The whole situation is pretty messy, and Altmyer isn't happy either.

College football has completely changed, and what the Rebel signal-callers are going through is simply a byproduct of what has become the sport's version of free agency.

As in, the NCAA Transfer Portal and its many dollars and blended families and elaborate recruiting graphics and passionate online following.

Let's get after it.

Franchise Player: Don't look now, but Malik Heath could end up being 'the guy' for Ole Miss at wide receiver Aug 10, 2022

Show notes

In this edition of Franchise Player, a crossover Ole Miss podcast in association with the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247), Ben Garrett and David Johnson deep-dive into a number of Rebel football topics, including the early emergence of Mississippi State transfer Malik Heath in fall camp.

Don't look now, but Heath could be 'the guy' at wide receiver.

Plus, a critical scrimmage coming up, a round of 'Hot Take Hotel' and an impromptu 'Recruit Check.' What's the latest with Ayden Williams, Deion Smith and Bryson Hurst?

Let's get to it.

Bradley Sowell returns, but he’s holding off pouring up the Kool-Aid on Ole Miss football Aug 09, 2022

Show notes

Tuesday marked the first full-pad fall-camp practice for Ole Miss football.

More importantly for our purposes, however, Bradley Sowell, the former Ole Miss offensive lineman and eight-year NFL veteran, has made his grand return to the Talk of Champions Ole Miss podcast.

Pour up the Kool-Aid!

Well, not quite, but Ben Garrett (Ole Miss Spirit, On3) and Brad tell you all you need to know about where things stand with the Rebels, including the scary potential of running back Zach Evans, who could be the focal point of Ole Miss offensively.

If he is, how might Lane Kiffin's high-octane scoring machine look different? And (of course) the guys touch on the quarterbacks and much, much more.

Let's get to it.

Talent-wise, no Ole Miss team has looked this good, top to bottom, at the start of fall camp Aug 04, 2022

Show notes

Ole Miss football is back footballing, you guys.

Yes, we've finally made it.

So, of course, Ben Garrett (Ole Miss Spirit, On3) and David Johnson (Inside the Rebels, 247) are back with another crossover podcast, and today they're handing out helmet stickers after the first two practices of Ole Miss fall camp.

Plus, they pick a Rebel who’s won the week so far (spoiler, it’s freshman running back Quinshon Judkins) and cut through the noise on a heated quarterback competition between Jaxson Dart and Luke Altmyer.
