Franchise Player: Lane Kiffin, Ole Miss in a good place entering his third season as head coach Aug 29, 2022

Show notes

Lane Kiffin said Monday he needed Ole Miss more than Ole Miss needed him when he was hired some three years ago, and he sure seemed genuine when he said it.

That's ... a lot to unpack (in a good way!) with only days left until kickoff.

What a way to kick off the first Ole Miss game week of the 2022 season, right?

Ben Garrett and David Johnson discuss in this edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247).

Plus, Ole Miss still hasn't announced a starting quarterback, and at this point, Ben and David don't believe any such announcement is coming. For good reason, too. There's no benefit in releasing it now.

Franchise Player: Even ‘torn’ about Ole Miss QBs, Lane Kiffin's law of averages encouraging for 2022 Aug 26, 2022

Show notes

Now-third-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin was said to be "torn" in his looming decision between Jaxson Dart and Luke Altmyer.

Ole Miss is just over a week away from kicking off against Troy.

But Kiffin's history tutoring quarterbacks suggests Ole Miss will be just fine (if not very good) in 2022, no matter which player Kiffin ultimately opts to go with.

Kiffin has been an FBS head coach for 10 combined seasons, including previous stops at USC and FAU. Over that span, his quarterbacks, per year, averaged 3,000 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

If Ole Miss gets that kind of production from Dart and/or Altmyer, the Rebels are very likely to exceed expectations, possibly even equaling or bettering their 10-3 finish last season.

Ben Garrett and David Johnson discuss in this edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247).

They also cover the abrupt resignation of Auburn athletics director Allen Green, which almost assuredly places head coach Bryan Harsin squarely on the hot seat.

But don't even start, national media. Ben doesn't think Kiffin is going anywhere.

Hit That Line: Season total locks and picking college football Week 0 games Aug 26, 2022

Show notes

College football is finally back on our television screens. Perfect time, then, for another edition of Hit That Line.

Zach Berry and Co. are back to provide you over/under win total locks for the 2022 season, and they pick one game from the very light Week 0 schedule.

Let’s make some money.

That's Suss! A thought exercise on the Ole Miss football win total in 2022 Aug 25, 2022

Show notes

We're a little under a week away from Ole Miss football kicking off the 2022 season.

Let's be honest: We've exhausted all the major topics of fall camp practices — from the quarterback battle between Jaxson Dart and Luke Altmyer, to an emerging star at left tackle in Jayden Williams and much, much more.

What's left to learn?

Well, a lot, actually. Class is in session with Nick Suss, the Talk of Champions resident analytics (read: numbers, for us good folks in North Mississippi) expert, and Ole Miss beat writer for the Clarion-Ledger.

Math never lies, so let's come up with the definitive preseason SEC rankings, as well as consider Austin Keys' surprising PFF value for the Rebel defense and the betting favorites to lead Ole Miss DUDE WATCH for the upcoming season.

Also, Nick's buying the curve on Auburn and Brian Kelly at LSU, while Ben can't keep himself from interrupting with too many inappropriate jokes.

Thank goodness football is almost here.

Franchise Player: Where’s the (Ole Miss football) love? ‘Cause it’s not enough. Aug 24, 2022

Show notes

The USA Today All-America teams, as hand-picked by all the FBS coaches, have been released.

Ole Miss didn't have a single selection.

The preseason disrespect for the 2022 Rebels, at least nationally, extends for yet another day. I mean, Athlon recently ranked Jaxson Dart, the presumed Ole Miss starter, as just the 10th-best quarterback in the 14-team SEC.

What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?

Are we local types propping up these Rebels — who were 10-3 last season, including their 10th all-time appearance in the Sugar Bowl — too much? They open the year against Troy September 3.

Ben Garrett and David Johnson certainly don't think so. They're bullish on Ole Miss' sky-high ceiling, as they detail in this edition of Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247).

The Night is Dark and Full of Spoilers: A Maester's guide to House of Dragon Aug 24, 2022

Show notes

Like Viserion inexplicably pulled from the sea by White Walkers possessing still-unexplained massive chains …

… and at the direction of the Night King, a hilariously lame show-only creation of the now infamous and idiotic writing team of Weiss and Benioff …

… rises again The Night is Dark and Full of Spoilers, with Maester Daniel and Ben of House Garrett, Lord of Oxford and Warden of North Mississippi.

We land, of course, in the familiar, if dangerous and conniving, land of Westeros, 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, and at the height of House Targaryen’s reign over the Seven Kingdoms.

Consider this Great Council now in session, and Maester Daniel, having traveled many miles from the Citadel, explains this moment in history, the main players in this bloody (and fiery!) time in the Game of Thrones — where you either win or you die — and how the events unfolding connect to (or retcon) the series we all grew to love and eventually hate and pretty much forget completely for three long winters.

#notcommitted: Ole Miss great Mike Espy's scouting report of four-star Rebel commit Ayden Williams Aug 23, 2022

Show notes

In this edition of #notcommitted, in association with the Ole Miss Spirit, an affiliate of On3.com, Zach Berry is joined by former Rebel wide receiver Mike Espy, who breaks down Ole Miss' newest commitment, four-star wide receiver Ayden Williams.

Espy knows Williams better than anyone, having trained the blue-chip in-state recruit directly through his company, Espy Performance.

Williams, who is as the No. 188 recruit in the country by the On3 Consensus, announced for Ole Miss on Sunday. He's also the No. 18 overall wide receiver and the No. 2 player in Mississippi.

Additionally, Espy shares his thoughts on how 7-on-7, summer camps and social media have transformed recruiting, as well as touches on his Ole Miss career catching footballs from Eli Manning, uniforms possibilities and much, much more.

Franchise Player: Can Ole Miss football upset the status quo in 2022? Aug 23, 2022

Show notes

Three teams (Alabama, Georgia and Ohio State) have combined to win five national championships in the eight-season era of the College Football Playoff.

Can Ole Miss upset the status quo in 2022?

Sure, but as Ben Garrett and David Johnson explain, it's complicated. The Rebels will also need a little luck in their favor.

Franchise Player, a site-crossover podcast of the Ole Miss Spirit (On3) and Inside the Rebels (247) has the latest.

#notcommitted: Dayton Wade talks life before Ole Miss, fall camp and a new uniform Aug 23, 2022

Show notes

Zach Berry sat down with Ole Miss wide receiver Dayton Wade to discuss the latter's journey from Lovejoy (Ga.) High School to Western Kentucky and, finally, Ole Miss, where he's carving out a role in the Rebel rotation for 2022.
