56: Changing Perception of Startups in Dubai with Neha Choudhary of Making Waves Sep 19, 2016
    Show notes

For Neha Choudhary, her journey to becoming an entrepreneur based in Dubai all led back to one thing: family. After attending college at Northwestern University in Chicago, and then working as an analyst with JP Morgan Chase in Singapore, Neha -- who grew up between Bahrain and Dubai -- eventually returned to Dubai to be near her family. What she also did was leave her corporate job and finally take the leap to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams. The result: Her new video platform, Making Waves, which features video interviews with entrepreneurs in Dubai and which she hopes will shine a light on the burgeoning startup community in the region -- a community that Neha feels is largely ignored by the outside world.

On this episode, Neha talks about the misconceptions about Dubai, misconceptions about women doing business in Dubai, industries that are booming in the region and her mission to let people know that "the Middle East is about more than oil." She also speaks candidly about the challenges of being a solopreneur, and how new entrepreneurs can get through those tough moments that are bound to come.

    On this episode you'll learn...

Why perceived risk is more than actual risk. How to handle the ups and downs of entrepreneurship. The importance of your emotional wellness, and allowing yourself down days. How to create a routine for yourself.Finding an offering that doesn't already exist in your market. How to decide the best platform for your business. The kind of videos that work best for business.Realizing that it's ok to fail. The benefits of bringing in a co-founder who has strong points different than yours.

55: Here's Why Your Resistance to Support is Selfish on Your Part Sep 16, 2016
    Show notes

There is a moment within this episode where I talk about how not accepting support has pushed some of us so far that we end up doing things to hurt ourselves..............

There is a long pause after the first time I say this. It shook me up when I vocalized it. I listened to that segment again and again in editing and debated whether I should take it out. When I began wiping tears away, I decided to leave it in.

I began this episode talking about a recent, courageous video that Necole Kane (formerly of NecoleBitchie.com) released where she spoke through tears about struggles she's going through in her business and in her life after making some big moves and transitions, and I share how much I can relate. But know this, this episode is about YOU. I want YOU to get the support you need in all areas of your life -- whatever that looks like. Your job is to stop being resistant, to ask, to accept, and to let support show up for you in all the ways it wants to and in all the ways you need.

To not allow support is selfish. And you are not selfish, you are up to something, you are BIG, you have purpose, and support is there to see you through.

    On this episode you'll learn…

The importance of asking for support -- for real! How to face down resistance.Giving up "I got it" syndrome. Why support is sexy for your mental health. Why not asking for support is selfish. Why you must surround yourself with people who push through your resistance.

50: How to Recognize Your Ripple Effect Sep 09, 2016
    Show notes

    What's your ripple?

We all have one. But there are times, right, when we forget that?

    Don't.

You MATTER. Your voice MATTERS. The business you're creating MATTERS. The work you're doing MATTERS. The love you show your children, your family and your friends MATTERS.

And you and your work cause a ripple. That infectious something that supports one person, then the next, then the next -- all stemming from what you've put out into the world. You may never know this, and you may have moments when you think what you're doing isn't moving anyone anywhere.

That's why I recorded this episode: to remind you to recognize, respect and remember your ripple.

From the time she was 5 years old and stealing pieces of foil from her mom's kitchen so she could craft pieces of jewelry and save them for the "business" she planned to open, Tamiko White knew she was meant to be an entrepreneur. Today, as a style ambassador, branding expert, speaker, model, actress and educator who works with several global fashion brands, Tamiko is -- in one all-encompassing term -- storyteller.

Between meetings and appointments as she gears up for New York Fashion Week, we talk to the NYC native about the business of fashion, the evolution of fashion week and what designers, stylists and students all need to know before getting in the game.
