To start the show Ariel and Ripley reflect on their self-proclaimed “amateur historian” statuses in regards to their passion and interest in the brand, and how they have learned even more over the last several days of being hands on with some of their archive pieces. Ripley shares how he loves these unique and sometimes overlooked pieces and the two begin to dive into Casio having a lot of “evolutionary dead-ends” over the years that produced a lot of interesting pieces. Ripley talks about how their approach to making purpose built pieces may have us questioning their logic years later, and also how their different approach to making these tool watches with the emergence of digital technology gave us these pieces that we are still talking about to this day. Throughout the episode Ariel and Ripley go back and forth talking about everything from the history and progression of the brand, some of their very unique features and models over the years, and even Casio’s potential involvement with the smartwatch industry. PASSION THROUGH DESIGN WITH FABRIZIO BUONAMASSA OF BULGARI Mar 18, 2024

As the show comes to a close, Ariel talks about the connected universe of smart watches and Fabrizio elaborates on how Bulgari will pay attention to this section of the industry.

This week on the Superlative Podcast, host and aBlogtoWatch Founder Ariel Adams is joined by the CEO of Wolf 1843, Simon Wolf. To start the show, Ariel and Simon reflect on where and when they met, and a bit of the heritage behind Simon being the fifth generation owner of the company. Simon gives us the history behind the idea his great great grandfather had in 1834 involving crafting custom jewelry boxes, and how that progressed over the generations to what they do today. Ariel has Simon dive into his different relationships with brands, retailers, and consumers today, and how they transitioned from a packaging company to a company that makes accessories that consumers and brands both want to buy. Ariel talks about the “niche” luxury accessories part of the industry and where Simon and Wolf 1834 fit in, and they take a closer look at the watch winders and other Wolf devices that the company creates today.

To start their second attempt at the conversation due to technical issues, the two jump into why Romaric isn't too fond of being considered the “King of Collaborations," and he gives us the backstory on how Seconde/Seconde came to be what it is today. Romaric started by swapping the hands on vintage and luxury timepieces in order to add his own unique vision in creating art with something that already exists. Ariel asks about his mindset when it comes to design, and what his education and experience with art and design was before the creation of Seconde/Seconde. The two discuss how Romaric handles having to decide different types of deals and promotions to compete with other brands, and how he transitioned from working on vintage watches to being commissioned for designs from major brands.
