I had been working in a garage for 2 years. It didn’t pay much, just the food money but that job was all I had and I had got it after a lot of struggles so I put up with it. I was just 18 at that time and 2 years before that I had run from my last foster home because the people who took me in were the worst kind of people. They didn’t take care of me or any other child in the house and made us do all the heavy chores of the house. It was clear that they only did the fostering job for the money.

When I started high school, I was going through a very hard time. My family was broke. We lived in a tiny apartment, all sleeping in the same room and eating fast food every day because it was all we could afford. My mom and dad fought every single day because of the situation. I’m the eldest of my siblings, so it was my job to take care of them while my parents argued. I had so much anger pent up inside me, and the only outlet for it I had was school.

I spent my life following my parents through ancient tombs and exploring the pyramids of Egypt. They’re archaeologists and I felt very lucky to have been adopted by these cool people. My adoptive mom couldn’t have children and one day she decided that adopting a baby was just as good as having her own. She went to an orphanage and I was the first baby she laid eyes on. Apparently I was really cute so she picked me.

I was born with a rare disease. My memory would reset everyday. Without delay. Let me tell you how it all began.

When I was born, something went wrong, which resulted in me getting the disease. My parents told me they first noticed it when I was around 2-years-old - I would wake up in the morning and run away from them - I didn't know who they were, and I was scared because I thought they were strangers. Eventually they took me to a doctor and we were able to diagnose it as some rare disease that has only been recorded five times in the past century. It's that rare.

I lived up north, where the temperatures were below freezing and the sun was a rare sight. I used to love ice-skating, and I would always go down to the frozen lake near my house. I've been skating on that lake ever since I could remember. Literally. From what my mom told me, even as a fetus I was skating on the ice. When she was pregnant she was skating. When I was a day old she skated with me in her arms. When I was 3 months old I was already playing on the ice. Right until the age of 17, I was skating.

Wrong! Bouquets, corsages, bridesmaids, cake, garlands! All I could think about was my wedding day. I was obsessed. So obsessed that at the age of seven I already had a wedding scrapbook.
