When I was a kid, I didn’t have many friends. My mom would take me to the playground sometimes, but before i could play with any other kids, their parents would pull them away. I tried to befriend kids in my neighborhood, but their moms always rushed out and told them “don’t go near that house”. I never understood why. Our house looked just like the rest, my mom looked just like the other moms, and I was a normal kid like everyone else.

After a while, I stopped trying to make friends. I was pretty young when I got it in my head that there was something wrong with me, otherwise why did no kids want to be my friends? When I was in middle school I was already a complete loner. I ate my lunch alone in a bathroom stall every day. It wasn’t as sad as you might think, you hear a lot when hiding in a semi-public place.

Something Is Living Inside My Head May 14, 2022

“Oh Lisa has always loved playing tennis.” Mum would reply.

It was true, since the first time I picked up a racquet I knew I was born to play tennis. I never doubted that I was meant to become a famous tennis player one day. That is, until I realized something was living inside my head.

I remember my first tennis competition like it was yesterday, even though I was actually only 8 years old. That's when people really started to talk about me. I beat all my opponents easily. I felt so happy when they gave me the winning trophy. My parents were watching from the side and I could see them clapping and cheering.

From that moment on my whole life was tennis, I practised every day after school and all through the weekend. Even when I met my boyfriend Jack, it didn’t stop me from spending all my free time playing tennis. Jack understood, he was a keen footballer so his weekends were busy with sport too.

My childhood was very unconventional, you see my Dad is an eccentric scientist, he is always coming home with new inventions. You know, he even invented a pill to take instead of eating a meal. He gave it to Mum and me to try one time but I didn’t really like it to be honest.

Dad had his own laboratory in our house, I was never allowed to go in there! He would disappear in there for days sometimes. Even though my life wasn’t as normal as other people’s I was really happy. Well for most of the time I was happy, the only thing I didn’t like was my brothers’ jealousy!

They never used to be jealous. But then they went to summer camp, and when they came back, it was like they were completely different people.

The last thing that I heard before I blacked out again were the sounds of helicopter blades hovering right over me.

I awoke to the sound of machine beeping and I groggily opened my eyes.

“Hey, babe, I’m here. I’ll be right back ok, I’m going to get a doctor,” the man said.

He returned with a doctor.

“Why good morning Mrs. Romero you gave us quite a scare there. You’ve been unconscious for the past three days,” the doctor said.

I Became Beautiful Overnight, It Ruined My Life May 10, 2022

I used to think that I was the most unfortunate person ever because of the fact that I was not born with the features that society considered to be beautiful. According to them, I was ugly. I had an unusually large nose, it was huge and my jaw line was irregular, and let’s not even begin to talk about my skin. It was filled with acne scars.

Because of that, I had been bullied my whole life from junior through high-school continuously. Even outside school, people would laugh at me because of my looks. They would make mean comments about me without even bothering to care how that would make me feel.

“Thank god I don’t look like her,” they said and laughed aloud which literally broke my spirit.
