Cow Belles vs. Material Girls Dec 10, 2020

Show notes

2006 was clearly a time full of growing pains for women in pop culture. Shows like "The Simple Life" and "The Girls Next Door," foundational texts for the bimbos of today, were creating a reactionary wave of "feminist" criticism, and for our purposes, that manifested in the form of two ENTIRELY SEPARATE tween-targeted movies centering around the rich and spoiled sisters getting their comeuppance— "Cow Belles," starring Disney's Aly and AJ, and "Material Girls," starring the decidedly non-Disney Duff sisters. Which of these two movies has stood the test of time? Let's find out.

(CW: Sexual assault, blatant racism)

The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement Dec 03, 2020

Show notes

2004’s “The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement” is one of the most polarizing sequels in the tween movie canon— featuring baby Chris Pine, painful jokes about a wooden leg, and an only-somewhat justifiable autotuned duet between Dame Julie Andrews and Raven Symoné, there’s a lot to talk about. Including, importantly... does this movie measure up to the rules of a good sequel?

Life Size Nov 19, 2020

Show notes

Who decided that it was?! Hannah and Audrey discuss.

Passport to Paris Nov 05, 2020

Show notes

What do two all-American tweens do the city of lights? Diplomatically finesse a revamp of the aqueduct system of Paris, apparently. 1999's Passport to Paris starring none other than Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen is a somewhat deep cut that gives you everything you want— matching outfits, swordfighting with baguettes, and a plot totally dependent on a lack of cell phones.

1997's Cinderella Oct 29, 2020

Show notes

There are few made-for-TV spectaculars as egregiously underrated as The Wonderful World of Disney (and Whitney Houston’s) 1997 imagining of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” Hannah and Audrey personally ran their VHS ragged. In this episode, they regale us with fun facts, secrets, and LOVING TAKES on what might be their favorite movie ever.
