Twilight ft. Megan & Liz Apr 01, 2021

Show notes

Close your eyes and imagine: it’s November 2009. You’re standing in a suburban movie theatre with “Team Edward” emblazoned across your chest. You were recently acknowledged by both Oprah AND Taylor Swift on national television. Life is good. The life you’re imagining is that of Megan & Liz, early-YouTube sensations turned indie musicians, who join us this week to unpack their favorite franchise, Twilight.

The Cheetah Girls 2 Mar 25, 2021

Show notes

A critical influence on basic girls’ study abroad trips fo generations to come, The Cheetah Girls 2 is a blazer-and-tank-tops-filled romp through Barcelona. Relatively unimpressive a cappella sections, stale beef, and bland love interests aside, this movie brought SO much to the table in the summer of 2006. Let’s explore.

Heathers vs. The Craft ft. Yhara Zayd Mar 18, 2021

Show notes

Pitting two killer teen classics against each other is not a game for the faint of heart— especially 1989’s “Heathers” and 1996’s “The Craft.” We had to call in goddess and resident expert Yhara Zayd to help us deliberate.

The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea Mar 11, 2021

Show notes

2000’s “The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea” is one of a long line of controversial direct-to-video Disney sequels. Despite its being plagued by low-budget animation, plot holes, and critical disdain, Audrey and Hannah may have seen this one even more times than the original.

Ella Enchanted Mar 04, 2021

Show notes

2004’s “Ella Enchanted,” while a prime byproduct of the Shrek Industrial Complex of the early 2000s, is in retrospect a rare breed: a mid-size fantasy movie starring Anne Hathaway AND the intellectual property of Queen? Say no more.

She's The Man Feb 25, 2021

Show notes

2006’s “She’s The Man” starring Amanda Bynes (and loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night) has all the things we normally look for in a Sleepover Cinema classic: but is this movie the understated exploration of queer identity that we want it to be?

Season Two Premiere: Sleepover Feb 18, 2021

Show notes

2004’s “Sleepover” is a movie Hannah and Audrey utterly missed out on as tweens, and what a shame. A critically-misunderstood movie ceaselessly packed with clichés, hijinks, and cute boys, “Sleepover” is, according to the Leach sisters, a loving perspective from the female gaze in a culture stacked against it.

Aquamarine: Season One Finalé Jan 14, 2021

Show notes

2006’s “Aquamarine.” Where do we begin? While on the surface a simple movie about two best friends and a mermaid, this one is an inspiration. A vision. A fount of creative energy. Starring faves the legendary JoJo and our king Jake McDorman, we saved this one for last for a reason.
