    Sleepover Cinema

Welcome to Sleepover Cinema, where we analyze the films that created the collective unconscious of the girls and gays of the late 90s and early 2000s. Hosted by sister filmmaking duo Hannah and Audrey Leach, also known as Too Pink Productions, Sleepover Cinema is an exploration of the movies that first inspired their love for film aimed at answering the question… are these movies actually good? And at the end of the day, do we really care if they are?

RE-RELEASE: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Jun 17, 2021
    Show notes

We're on a break this week, so we're re-airing this episode from September 2020! It's one of our favorites. :) If you haven't been listening from the very beginning of Sleepover Cinema's existence, you may have missed this one. Enjoy!

2005’s The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is *that* movie that really made one feel mature when they finally got to watch it. Featuring an offscreen hookup with a camp counselor, terminal illness in suburbia, a Grecian vacation, AND an emotional breakdown in a bridal shop, there’s drama aplenty in this one… and we, obviously, love it.

Pt. 2: Legally Blonde ft. Mom! Jun 10, 2021
    Show notes

(LISTEN TO LAST WEEK’S PART 1 BEFORE LISTENING!) Throughout our time on Sleepover, many questions have arisen for and about our mom. Why were Britney Spears and Limited Too not allowed in our house? Did she have any awareness of the feminism inherent in the blonde bimbo trope explored in 2001’s “Legally Blonde?” We explore together in this week’s LONG-AWAITED interview with Jennifer Dye Leach.

Pt. 1: Legally Blonde ft. Mom! Jun 03, 2021
    Show notes

2001’s “Legally Blonde,” perfectly straddling the cultural line between the ethos of second and third wave feminsm, was first showed to us by our mom one fateful evening in approximately 2004. What does she think of the movie now? And what does she think of our constantly analyzing her parenting choices on a public platform? We begin to unpack both topics on Sleepover Cinema’s two part season finale.

    13 Going On 30 May 27, 2021
    Show notes

For a generation that’s grown up with “thirty, flirty, and thriving” running through their brains an unconscious loop, 2004’s “13 Going on 30” was a definitive cultural moment and continues to be to this day. With a sad adult Mark Ruffalo and seemingly the biggest soundtrack budget in film history, there’s much to discuss, and that, we do.

2004’s direct-to-video classic “Barbie as The Princess and the Pauper” is the sort of movie that was part gripping cinema, part ubiquitous basement background noise for a generation of girls and gays. In celebration of this truth, sister-cousins of Hannah and Audrey, Erin and Julia, join the pod today to relive their youth.

    Jump In! May 06, 2021

2007’s Jump In!, starring wholesome hunk Corbin Bleu and everyone’s BFF Keke Palmer, was THEEEE MOVIE that made it through the Leach sisters’ staunch anti-sports movie filter. Double dutch, wildly unsubtle use of stunt doubles, and rated-G discussions toxic masculinity in tact… what do we think?
