116 | Going After Your Dreams + Gaining Body Liberation with Chrissy King Nov 30, 2021
    Show notes

We're starting to enter that time of year where we walk the fine line between maintaining our boundaries and finding ways to show love for those we care most for. It can be hard to find the path that works best for you while in the hustle and bustle of holiday traditions and festivities. Although we don't necessarily talk about navigating this time of year, something we do get to discuss is taking your power back by living the life you dream of. We explore the duality of becoming that girl while having peace that everything you want will all come together - as long as you keep moving forward.

Chrissy King is a writer, speaker, fitness and strength coach, and is passionate about women learning to take up space within the world. She is also our first-ever returning guest, making this an inspiring gift of an episode that I'm honored to bring to your ears. Trust me, you'll be thinking about this conversation for at least a few weeks - I'm definitely a little obsessed - and will wanna save this for later so you can listen to it all over again.

    WE ALSO TALK ABOUT…

    • Having peace and trust with your manifestations.
    • The difference between body positivity vs body liberation.
    • Escaping the conditioning of limiting beliefs.
    • Matching your environment to the lifestyle you dream of living.

115 | Taking Our Power Back from Oppressive Systems with the Crunk Feminist Collective Nov 23, 2021
    Show notes

In a world and time where we are constantly moving from one historical moment to the next, it can feel overwhelming to know where you can jump in and be a part of the movement for equality and justice for all. Looking through the perspective of how we can empower ourselves as a community rather than the individual reminds us that this isn't something we can do alone - but that we do together.

I had the honor of sitting down with Brittney Cooper, Susana M. Morris and Chanel Craft Tanner of the Crunk Feminist Collective. The three of them just released their new book, Feminist AF: A Guide to Crushing Girlhood, which helps girls and gender nonbinary young people of color find their voice. Tune in to feel validated, powerful, and able to take action in building a Feminist society that supports all of us.

    WE ALSO TALK ABOUT…

    • Feminism is a structural analysis.
    • Self-care requires structures.
    • Building a team for feminist care.

114 | Creating Supportive Boundaries Around Screen Time with Taylor Morrison Nov 16, 2021
    Show notes

How has your screen time been impacted by the pandemic? This is just one of the many questions I ask Taylor around our relationship with our screens and creating an unplugged self-care practice. Taylor Morrison is an international speaker, facilitator, and the founder of Inner Workout. She's on a mission to help others beat burnout by building sustainable self-care practices. Taylor is also the host of the podcast, Inner Warmup - a show I listen to on the reg.

One of my favorite highlights from this conversation was the acknowledgment that what self-care looks for us now will look different for us five years from now - it could even look different in five weeks or five days. Building a healthy relationship with our screens is so much more than taking back our time - it's taking back our sense of self and our ability to have discernment for our lives and our needs.

    WE ALSO TALK ABOUT…

    • Becoming mindful of when we turn to social media.
    • Navigating the impulse for instant gratification.
    • Understanding your needs to practice self-care.
    • Tips for creating boundaries with our screens.

    113 | Being Multi-Passionate + Betting on Yourself is Self-Love with Asha Bromfield Nov 09, 2021
    Show notes

Connecting with Multi-Hyphenate Actress and Author Asha Bromfield was nothing short of inspiring. You might have recognized her from the hit CW show, Riverdale, or Netflix's adaptation of Locke & Key. But what we really dive into is her new coming-of-age book, Hurricane Summer, and how she ventured into creating representation for softer Black women.

We also go deep into the desire and pursuit of doing it all, and defining what that means for you. So often, when we try to do it all, we're also trying to accomplish the expectations that loved ones and guardians have placed upon us. Asha and I explore what it means to drop those expectations and follow our passions on our own terms. If you have multiple interests and are unsure of where to start, this episode is definitely for you.

    WE ALSO TALK ABOUT…

    • Pursing various passions.
    • Navigating other people's limiting beliefs.
    • Defining your life for yourself.
    • Creating diversity in a world full of one-dimensional Black representation.

    112 | Taking Your Power Back Nov 02, 2021
    Show notes

Coming off of our Connection Series, I wanted to continue the conversation on building boundaries, pursuing what's in our best interest, and making sure we're navigating forms of self-care that align with our needs. And so for the next six episodes, we'll be exploring ways that we can take our power back - spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically.

So I'm starting things off by sharing some perspective and getting real with you on self-sabotage and facing our fears. In our previous episode, we talked about how we can let others show up for us, but now I want to look at how we can show up for ourselves. Our goal is to, yes, take our power back, but even more so, go after our dreams and make them a reality. Dive in to set the tone and learn how you can do just that.

    I ALSO TALK ABOUT…

    • Showing up even if it means you won't get it right.
    • Overcoming self-sabotage.
    • Being discerning with influential content.
    • The fine line between self-awareness and fear.

As we draw a close to another incredible series, I'll be going off the cuff, today. This connection series has got me so inspired to be real and present with you. • How to communicate your needs.

110 | How to Let Go of People-Pleasing Behaviors with Tiffany Hall Oct 12, 2021
    Show notes

How full does your cup feel these days? And how much time are you dedicating to yourself and your needs? Tune in to my conversation with Tiffany Hall, LMFT, and let's check-in. When looking at people-pleasing behaviors, I think we can sometimes get too literal. People-pleasing isn't necessarily going out of your way to please the people around you — it's simply putting other's needs before your own.

Start by just reflecting on your life since the start of the pandemic - have you been neglecting yourself to appease those around you? And if so, how does that make you feel?

Talking to Tiffany was amazing - IMO, she is the expert on letting go of people-pleasing impulses. She shared so many insights on how we can begin to focus on how we see ourselves instead of how others may view us. We went everywhere in this conversation, and then some. Tune in to learn how you can break free.

IN THIS EPISODE, WE TALK ABOUT…

    • Disconnecting how others view us from how we view ourselves.
    • Locating where people-pleasing behaviors began.
    • Reparenting is a necessary, ongoing process.
    • How to set boundaries that are realistic.

109 | You Don't Have to Do It All + Watering Your Professional Relationships with Tiffany Dufu Oct 05, 2021
    Show notes

As important as it is to strive for work-life balance, the act of trying to achieve that can get you into a toxic trap of scarcity (especially if you try to constantly "check-out" between those hours of 9-5).

Yikes! I know - but that's why it's such a gift to have Tiffany Dufu on the show. She helps rein us in, providing check-in points to see if we're actually getting what we need out of our professional and personal relationships. In this episode, we look at what it means to operate within a team and what our place within that space actually looks like.

And just in case you haven't met Tiffany yet, she is the author of Drop the Ball: Achieving More by Doing Less and the founder of Cru - an expansive support group for helping you reach your entrepreneurial and life goals. Trust me, this episode is going to be a trip!

IN THIS EPISODE, WE TALK ABOUT…

    • The profound difference between pronoia and paranoia.
    • Reframing what it means to drop the ball.
    • Not asking for help when you need it is an act of scarcity.
    • Making good on your dreams and ambitions.
