69: How to be a Nasty Woman Oct 24, 2016
    Show notes

    Know Thy Triggers.

I say this to my gym members all the time. You have to know what triggers you, if you want to really own the heck out of your life. Knowing your triggers allows you to say yes to the right things and no to the wrong things. Knowing your triggers helps you identify what you want to fight for and what fights are a waste of your time.

Last week I put up a fight. A couple times.

    I defended my child.

    I defended all women.

    Then I wrote a manifesto.

At the end of the week, I came to see there are things I will always fight for. There are people I will always defend, even if I take a beating in the process.

I know what’s right for ME.

I hope this episode helps you define what’s right for YOU.

    Here’s my manifesto:

    Nasty Woman Manifesto

    1. Stand for women
    2. Stand for children
    3. Stand up to bullies
    4. Take the high road
    5. Where there is not a path, create one
    6. When you listen, truly hear
    7. Share
    8. Fight for the underdog
    9. Don’t back down
    10. Work for the greater good
    11. Connect
    12. Do not fear your enemy
    13. Challenge the status quo
    14. Empower the powerless
    15. Pay your fair share

Will you do yourself a favor and write your manifesto? You can use any of mine you want to get you started!

Send me your manifestos to: sara@shamelessmom.com. I would love to share some other Shameless Moms’ manifestos on an upcoming podcast!

68: Kim Ades On Blended Families and Frame of Mind Oct 19, 2016
    Show notes

Kim Ades is the president and founder of Frame of Mind Coaching and JournalEngineTM Software. Author, speaker, entrepreneur, coach, and mother of five, Kim is recognized as one of North America's foremost experts on performance through thought mastery. By using her unique process of integrating online journaling in her coaching, Kim helps her highly-driven clients to examine and shift their thinking in order to yield extraordinary results.

I was so fascinated to learn about Kim’s family. She and her husband married 8 years ago and brought together 5 children, ages 9-14, to build a new family. Kim quickly learned a lot about what it took to function and thrive as a blended family. Listen in as she shares:

    • The significance of traveling as one unit
    • The power of new traditions (like hot dog stuffed turkey)
    • The importance of the Family Meeting and the format she recommends (what’s working , what would you do different, what is one request)
    • The difference between parenting and childing
    • The truth about parenthood and self management

Professionally, Kim has taken her work with Frame of Mind Coaching to a different level than many of the coaches I have spoken to. Listen in to hear Kim share:

    • The specific and unique formula she uses to help through major life breakthroughs
    • The significance of journaling in her practice and why it is crucial for growth
    • Why we have to go back and rewrite out own stories if we want to move forward in our current space

Lastly, Kim invites you to assess your own frame of mind with her online assessment. This assessment will give you a sense of what's keeping you stuck, and how our coaching can help get you past it.

67: How to Create Happiness Boosters Oct 17, 2016
    Show notes

I first heard of Happiness Boosters from the amazing Gretchen Rubin (author of The Happiness Project). In the last few months I’ve given considerable thought to how we can create joy or boost happiness on a whim.

Sure, I would love to do a weekend of wine tasting in Napa to boost my happiness. But that requires a lot of planning, travel, and money. It’s important to have big Happiness Boosters like this from time to time. But ,it’s also important to consciously create small happiness boosters for yourself, on a moments notice.

There is no end to the quick (and cheap) Happiness Boosters you can create for yourself – TODAY.

Take a few minutes to rearrange a space in your home or office so you really love spending time in it.

Get rid of something that has been annoying you forever and replace it with something that functions the way you want it to.

Invest in a little things that make a big difference in your quality of life or at least the quality of your day (like my cordless vacuum.)

Do something little to make your home or office more comfortable.

Create something that elicits an emotional response (frame those baby pictures you’ve been holding on to forever!)

These little things make a big difference in your daily happiness. This, in turn, impacts your overall quality of life. Don’t underestimate the little things. They are BIG.

Listen in – and then go get yourself a new soap pump!

    65: Finding Greatness Oct 10, 2016
    Show notes

I recently attended Lewis Howes’s Summit of Greatness.

I went to see how he would create greatness and give greatness. I know he is someone who receives other people in the world in a very unique and special way. I wanted to see that magic in person.

    And I did.

    Over and over.

    And over.

To create Greatness, you must be a giver, through and through. You must give love, unconditionally. You must create confidence in those you want to give to. You must be compassionate and empathetic. You must show up with humility and grace.

To receive Greatness, you must be open and willing. You must be listening. You must be at least a little bit vulnerable. You must be considerate of your surroundings – allowing in the things that make you a little uncomfortable, knowing they will make you better.

At The Summit of Greatness, I saw Greatness created and given over and over. I saw it received in a million different ways. I received it myself through connections with new friends, trying things out of my comfort zone, and listening attentively to everything and everyone.

In this episode I share my transformative experience of receiving Greatness.

63: Listener Lessons: Baby Steps Oct 03, 2016
    Show notes

I have been getting the most amazing emails with feedback and love from our Shameless Mom listeners. I chose 2 recent emails to share with you today. Claire and Kati are two Shameless Moms who sent me their stories and shared how the SMA has impacted their lives. I was touched and honored to receive their love and support.

Listen in to hear how the Shameless Mom Academy has impacted these two mamas daily lives. In different ways, they have learned to take baby steps, every day. They have learned to think a little bigger and start considering their own stories and their own legacies. This is the good stuff, friends….

Claire shares her story of successful IVF and unsuccessful IVF. Claire lives in France (and has invited me to come drink wine with her – YES, PLEASE). She explains how the French healthcare system handles infertility differently than US healthcare system, which I find fascinating.

Kati shares her story of being a stay at home mom for the last 18 years while raising 4 children. She talks about the pressure she has put on herself over the years – and how she is starting to live bigger and better by letting go of her self imposed expectations.

Thank you Claire and Kati for sharing with me and for allowing me to share your stories with our community! Much love to you both!

62: Carrie Wilkerson: Shameless Mom & Barefoot Executive Sep 28, 2016
    Show notes

Year ago, one of my mentors told me to look up Carrie Wilkerson. He thought I would be impressed with the way she built a business on her own terms, from her own home, keeping her own family as her #1 priority. Always.

You all know, I love doing Facebook “research.” So, I looked Carrie up, “Followed” her (as her Friends were at capacity, no surprise), and was immediately very impressed.

What drew me to Carrie was her story. Through various Facebook posts over the years, I saw her post these intimate snapshots into her life and her history. Her posts about her family routinely left me teary eyed. While I was trying (desperately) to grow my little family, she filled me with hope as I learned her story of how she grew her (not so little) family. I could feel love and grace and strength in everything she shared.

When I started the Shameless Mom Academy, I knew I wanted to interview Carrie. She is tough but gentle; firm, but kind; loud, but soft. My kind of girl. 100%.

I have heard some of Carrie’s stories a few times now (yes, I totally sound like a stalker). Yet, she still gave me goose bumps over and over in this interview.

Listen in to hear Carrie share:

    • How she became a Barefoot Executive and how you can be one too
    • Why your competition is not your competition
    • How she overcame 6 figures of debt and lost over 120 pounds
    • How you can divide & conquer and create boundaries in all areas of your life in order to prevent resentment from others
    • How to say NO and why you should say NO
    • Why your kids need to be on a stage with a mic, sooner than later

61: Be Here Now. Mostly Sep 26, 2016
    Show notes

I had an entirely different episode ready to record for you. But then I found myself in a parking lot cranky as all get out, fighting with 26 mylar balloons in the wind and a new episode came over me.

I suck at living in the moment. Big time. When I got pregnant the first time, I was excited, yes. And I was also immediately panicked about how I would ever get pregnant again since the first time took forever and I was already ummmm, old-ish. I’ve always been really good at worrying about things years in advance.

Yesterday, right after my Mylar Moment, I turned on exactly the podcast I needed to hear in that moment – 100% unintentionally. It was a Chalene Johnson podcast about family/work balance that really spoke to me – especially the parts about living in the moment. As it turns out Chalene also struggles with that. We’re basically twins.

Listen in to hear my 4 tips on how to Be Here Now. Mostly.

    *Implement Time Blocking

*Improve your Mental/Emotional Prioritization and Separation

*Stop Mind Hustling (you know you do it!)

*Make a Family Plan with Clear Expectations

    Show notes

I was so excited and admittedly super curious about the conversation Michele Lisenbury Christensen, a sex and relationship coach, and I would have. Michele was a fun person to interview and maybe not quite what you would expect.

Michele is a mom, wife, and sex & relationship coach. Her life evolves around many things, not just sex and having sex. I most ways, she’s a mom, just like you and me. But she has some expertise that will fascinate you. And guide you.

    In this episode, Michele shares:

    • How we can all improve our marriage by introducing “wagging” today
    • Why relationships, marriage and sex are more complicated after having kids
    • The real reason you don’t want to jump in the sack at the end of the day
    • Simple steps that can be taken to improve your relationship and sex life, starting now
