59: How to Create Your Own Miracle Morning Sep 19, 2016
    Show notes

Your morning routine is KEY for owning your day. Back in Episode 16, I spoke with Craig Ballantyne about his Perfect Day Formula and we discussed the importance of a morning routine. Today, I am diving deeper with this concept and sharing exactly how to format your Miracle Morning, based on Hal Elrod’s book, “The Miracle Morning: The Not So Obvious Secret Guaranteed to Transform Your Life Before 8am.”

This book was transformative for me, so I knew it was well worth sharing with you. Hal has a specific (awesome) formula for The Miracle Morning that can easily be adapted to a 6-60 minute routine that will allow you to start your day on the right foot, every damn day.

I have been practicing elements of Hal’s protocol since January and I love it. In this episode I will tell you Hal’s exact Miracle Morning formula and how any mom can tweak this formula to make it work for you and your family.

You need a Miracle Morning routine for 3 important reasons:

    1. How you start the day impacts your entire day (remember: how you do anything is how you do everything)

    2. You will accomplish a lot more and ENJOY it all if you start your day from a place of being PROactive rather than REactive

    3. This routine will create opportunities for growth in multiple areas of your life

I challenge you to start with a 15 minute Miracle Morning practice right away. And you have to let me know how it goes!

58: Aimee Blair: The Gift of Down Syndrome and Prenatal Diagnosis Sep 14, 2016
    Show notes

Aimee Blair is the mother to three adorable little girls. Her oldest daughter, Julia, has Down Syndrome. Aimee shares her story of learning Julia’s diagnosis early in her pregnancy. She talks about the doctor who told her to terminate her pregnancy and the excruciating 10 days she waited for conclusive test results to find out if her daughter would survive pregnancy.

Aimee also opens up about the hardest day of her marriage amidst Julia’s diagnosis and the scariest day of her life when Julia was just 3 months old.

Aimee wants other moms to know:

The truth about Down Syndrome myths regarding maternal age

How children with Down Syndrome are just like other children, and how they are different

The power of inclusion in education

How moms of children with special needs want to be treated

Why she became a Shameless Mom faster than the most moms

I’m so grateful to Aimee for reaching out to me with her story. She is strong and brave. It was an honor to do this interview and help Aimee share her experience with prenatal diagnosis. This is a sensitive topic and Aimee shares with total grace, in hopes of helping other moms who might walk this journey.

57: Why You Must Share Your Stories Sep 12, 2016
    Show notes

I have recently shared. A lot.

I’ve told the long story of our IVF journey and ultimately, our IVF failure.

In the process I have learned a lot about the power of sharing our stories.

    Sharing stories:

    * Connects us

    * Creates bonds where there was not one

    * Is cathartic and therapeutic

    * Creates a more empathetic culture

    * Humanizes everyone

    * Allows us to not be alone

    * Destigmatizes all sorts of conditions – infertility, addiction, mental health, death, sex, loss, grief

At the end of the day, my life is made up of many stories…

My podcast is part of my story.

My gym is part of my story.

My marriage is part of my story.

My child is part of my story.

Divorce is part of my story.

Family Estrangement is part of my story.

Body image struggle is part of my story.

Infertility is part of my story.

IVF failure is part of my story.

In most cases, the deepest connections I make with other people are from struggles I have shared, not because of a perfect image I have conveyed.

Listen in to this episode to learn how you can start sharing just a little bit more in order to create better relationships, and attract the people you want to attract. I also share a very powerful excerpt from Carry On, Warrior by Glennon Doyle Melton that I think every woman should hear.

56: Nicole Rankins: OBGYN Integrative Health Coach Sep 07, 2016
    Show notes

I had the pleasure of interviewing Nicole Calloway Rankins. Nicole is a wife, mother, physician (ob/gyn), and integrative health coach. Nicole juggles many important roles in her life. When she’s not work nights as a Labor & Delivery doctor, she’s working with her integrative health coaching clients. In between those two jobs, she’s taking care of her family.

I was excited to talk to Nicole about life as an OBGYN. I imagine there is a lot to love – so many babies! I also wanted to hear about the not so lovely side of her work. She shared openly about loss, sadness, and poop.

In addition to sharing about her work as an OBGYN, Nicole opened up about her own birth experiences with her two daughters – the trauma of her first birth and the regret of her second one. I appreciate all she had to share here. Birth is a big deal and I love to hear women sharing their stories openly, so we can all learn and grow from each other’s experiences.

Nicole’s role as an integrative health coach really fired me up. She gets to assist women all over the country who are really struggling with things like weight loss, nutrition, stress and spend the necessary amount of time with them to make a difference. She helps women create goals and map out a plan. She walks with her patients step by step, week by week. This is a really amazing job, much broader than a traditional doctor role. I love that Nicole is bridging the gap between medicine and wellness to help so many woman.

Make sure to listen in to hear Nicole’s story and learn how she might be able to help you or other women you know.

    55: IVF: The End Sep 05, 2016
    Show notes

This is easily the most difficult episode I have recorded.

I knew there was a strong chance that IVF would end without a baby. In fact, I planned for it. I planned to be relieved (I don’t have to be pregnant! I don’t have to nurse! I don’t have to be an exhausted hot mess!) I planned to be excited (Let’s book a European vacation!)

I did not plan to feel really, really sad.

We experienced a lot of sadness when it took so long to get pregnant with Vinnie 5 years ago. It felt constant.

    This is different.

    It feels final.

    And so permanent.

There are things to be happy about with this outcome. There are things to be grateful for. But we’re not there yet.

    We’ll get there.

But not today. And probably not for awhile. But we will be ok.

Here’s the thing… we won the lottery on September 23, 2012. We were given all we could have ever hoped for – a healthy, perfect baby.

    That is enough.

Vinnie is more than enough. In every way.

So, from here we row our little family boat forward, one paddle at a time.

There will be some waves and things might feel a little topsy-turvy for awhile, but there will undoubtedly be amazing views, the best destinations, and all the love & laughter we could ever ask for.

    54: Rebecca Michi - Children's Sleep Consultant Aug 31, 2016
    Show notes

Rebecca Michi (Mickey) is a Mom of two, Wife of one and children's sleep consultant who would not ever dream of telling you to leave your children to cry-it-out. Rebecca loves helping families turn drama into dreamland. When she's not Momming, Wifeing, or consulting you can find her either running (rather slowly) or sipping coffee in Seattle.

I have been so excited about this interview because Rebecca was immensely helpful to me when Vinnie was a teeny, tiny tyke. Through stalking Rebecca on Facebook and participating in her Facebook Q&As for a number of months, I learned everything I needed to know about getting Vinnie on schedule, how to put a sleep routine in place, and what I should expect as he grew. Rebecca provided me with tremendous relief over and over again.

    In this interview, Rebecca shares:

    • When a baby is old enough to get on a sleep schedule
    • What a sleep routine looks like
    • Why you don’t have to suffer through crying-it-out
    • The 2-3-4 Rule (I swore by this with Vinnie!)
    • How to get your child to go to bed earlier and/or sleep in later

    53: Be Grateful, Dammit Aug 29, 2016
    Show notes

I recently received an email from Shameless Mom Rachel that brought me to tears. She talked about her experience with Postpartum Depression and suicidal ideation and how The Shameless Mom Academy has been part of her healing. Her words of gratitude were humbling, to say the least.

Rachel’s email inspired me to create this episode on gratitude. I am so grateful Rachel shared her story. Her story will help Shameless Moms, for sure. Our stories connect us to each other and inspire us to reach out of our comfort zones. Our stories are essential for learning and healing and growing. This is why I share so many of my stories.

In addition to my gratitude for Rachel’s story, I want to share 10 ways gratitude can improve your life. If you think gratitude is a little too “woowoo” for you, this list is for you!

Last, but not least, I want to share my friend Scott Colby’s upcoming event, The Ultimate Gratitude Challenge. Scott will be sharing interviews with 35 of his colleagues (myself included) over the course of 35 days. Scott’s interviews are all about how gratitude helped people out of addiction, loss and grief to improve self worth, relationships and overall quality of life. Scott has a fabulous line up of interviewees. This entire summit is online and free.

52: How to Follow Your Passion, Part 2 Aug 24, 2016
    Show notes

In Episode 51, I talked about how to find your passion by:

    • Defining what you love
    • Defining where you thrive
    • Defining what stifles you
    • Defining who you want to be

Be sure to listen to Episode 51, if you haven’t already!

Today I’ll build upon finding you passion by discussing:

    • Transitions between passions and life plans
    • How to create time and space for building your passion
    • How to hustle, smarter
    • Where your support is
    • Be kind to yourself, but also fierce
    • How to find mentors and follow those who have gone before you

The idea of “following your passion” sounds really nice – but actually following your passion takes #ladyballs and a serious plan. This episode will help you put some pieces together so you can move forward, daily; so you can feel confident and excited; so you can finally do that thing you’ve been dying to do.

I also share all the amazing, inspirational and informational podcasts I have learned from – that have allowed me to follow my passion of starting and building a podcast.

51: How to Follow Your Passion, Part 1 Aug 22, 2016
    Show notes

Finding your passion is no small thing. After you become a mom, you forget what you enjoy and you lose track of past hobbies. When you make an effort to former passion projects, whether it’s on a professional or personal level, you likely find that the things that totally filled you up and fueled you before kids don’t do that any more. It’s all… just different, somehow….

My work has shifted in many ways since becoming a mom. My hobbies have too. My time is different – and way more valuable. So, I’m really picky about how I spend it. I only want to do the things that add value to my life in some way. It has taken me some time to figure this out and define things.

Today, I’m going to share with you the things I’ve learned in the last 4 years of mothering and working and living a life that fulfills me. Here is the basic framework, be sure to listen in for a much more detailed explanation:

    • Know what you love
    • Know where you thrive
    • Know what stifles you
    • Know who you want to be

50: What Your Mother Never Told You About Motherhood Aug 17, 2016
    Show notes

For our 50th episode I wanted to do something a little fun and a little special. I actually recorded this in the 30 minutes before my IVF egg retrieval. I’m not sure it reinforced the idea that I truly want to go for #2, haha…

My mom has always done a great job of painting motherhood in a beautiful picture:

“Your children will always be your proudest accomplishment.”

“There is nothing like a mother’s love.”

“I don’t remember you ever waking up at night.”

“You are your sister were easy babies.”

Moms have a knack for making it look like we just wake up every day and knock everything out of the freakin’ park. As our children age, that is how we remember it too.

“You were the happiest baby in the world.”

    “The days just flew by.”

“Nothing compares to being a mom.”

You know what else nothing compares to?

Sipping wine with my husband on a beach without a small child in site.

Or spending a day all alone with no one needing a damn thing from me.

As our children age, we idealize the past and it gets better and better. As NewbornLand becomes a distant memory, we find ourselves falling in love with the memories, rather than recalling the reality, which was survival, barely.

This episode is dedicated to the first 50 episodes of the Shameless Mom Academy and the nearly 50,000 downloads of Shameless Moms listening in to learn and laugh together every week. Thank you for the love and support. You make my motherhood journey so much better.
