EP21: Money + Men with Hilary Hendershott Jun 02, 2016
    Show notes

Some of you may know that a not-so-secret passion of mine is personal finance. It may my love of number crunching, graphs, or the satisfaction of reaching numerical goals, but I love it.

I met Hillary in a women's podcasting group on Facebook, and of course she caught my eye because of her expertise in personal finance. I read more of her stuff, I realized that yes... she'll help you crunch the numbers, but she also coaches her clients around the mindset of their money. And she specifically works with women. When I reached out to her to ask if she had opinions about men, dating, relationships, and money she said, 'ooooh yeah.'

    So here it is!

    Here’s what you’ll learn:

    • How money beliefs hold you back to creating the wealth + lifestyle you want
    • How to talk money with your honey
    • How to handle making more than your partner
    • The importance of being in a financial relationship with your partner
    • Who pays on a date? Once you’re in a relationship who pays?

    About Hilary:

Hilary Hendershott, MBA, CFP® is the Founder of Hilary Hendershott Financial and the host of Profit Boss Radio, the podcast for women + money.

Hilary is a financial coach, money mindset expert, and experienced wealth manager. She has worked for nearly 15 years with women who want to preserve their wealth, make it grow, and eliminate financial stress once and for all.

She’s a TEDx speaker, and she’s regularly featured in Forbes, BBC On-line, Investopedia, NPR's Marketplace and Women 2.0. She was recognized as a Top 40 Under 40 Entrepreneur, and has been interviewed multiple times by the Wall Street Journal. Her articles are syndicated nationally and she’s a columnist in DailyWorth’s Connect platform for financial experts. With more than 30 television appearances, she’s a go-to personal finance expert for NBC where they call her "The Investor's Voice of Reason."

In 2015, Hilary announced her campaign to empower one million women to become millionaires. Her passion is empowering women to take control of their money and happiness, and achieve their financial goals.

Ask V: What goes in your self-care routine + what do you put on your skin May 26, 2016
    Show notes

I’m flying solo this episode for the first time in quite a while, but it seems to be a perfect thing to do coming off the Date Yourself Challenge.

Y’all, the Date Yourself Challenge BLEW me away.

When I ran the challenge back in February, 175 women went through the challenge. This past round, over 600 women did the challenge.

The energy was incredible, and I can’t tell you how many women joined with ‘little expectation’ of how it’ll help and were then blown away by the results they got.

Women reported feeling more confident, happier, and more like themselves in years.

Anyways, this Ask V is the first episode of its kind. I find that I get asked the same questions again + again. Instead either a) answering it over + over and/or b) not giving a thorough answer {the comments in the Facebook group can only do so much!}, I thought I'd occasionally do an Ask V episode to answer common questions.

The question is, I get asked all the time about my skincare regimen. And this just happens to be a topic I could go on + on about.

So in this first Ask V episode, I'll answer that question {it's probably not what you think!}, AND while I'm at it, I'll share with you my 3 other top self-care habits.

EP20: Divorce Isn't Your Destiny + Keeping Long-Term Relationships Fresh with Andrea Hood May 20, 2016
    Show notes

Today on the podcast I interview Andrea Hood, she’s a health coach + co-host of the podcast Badass + Bare.

When I first asked Andrea onto the show she was unsure of how she could be helpful. She's never actually dated! But, she's 11 years strong with her hubby, so I wanted to know how she does it, and how they keep their relationship fresh + exciting.

She also shares her story of how both her + her husband come from a long line of divorce, but both worked hard to not repeat the same patterns + mistakes their family members made. I really loved this conversation in particular, because whether we like it or not, our parents have a huge influence on how we see ourselves + how we relate to others. And the more we resist becoming like our parents, the more we become like them. Andrea shares how she broke that cycle + is creating a new pattern for her relationship with her husband.

As you listen, here's what you'll learn:

    • The exact moment she realized she was recreating the marriage between her parents
    • How getting healthy + creating a solid self-care routine transformed the relationship with herself + got her out of the first year of marriage woes with her husband
    • How to know if you have unrealistic expectations of what you’re relationship “should” feel like, or if you’re settling
    • And more!

    About Andrea:

Andrea Hood is an Entrepreneur and co-creator of Badass & Bare podcast, inspiring ear candy for the lady in flux. Andrea’s mission is to empower women to live authentically and stand in their own truth. When Andrea found herself unhappy, overweight, and lacking energy and excitement in her mid-20’s, she knew she needed a serious life overhaul and she set out to do just that. By surrounding herself with a community of like-minded women, and following the lead of mentors and coaches she invested in, Andrea was able to pull herself out of her funk and create the life she had always envisioned. She was able to get the clarity she needed to discover her true purpose in life, to which she does on her own terms and unapologetically, and now she guides other badass women to do the same. EP19: On Great Love with Jessie Artigue May 12, 2016
    Show notes

Today on the podcast I interviewed one of my podcast crushes, Jessie Pepper. Jessie, along with her husband, is a co-host one of my favorite podcasts, Marriage is Funny. My favorite thing about their show is their quest for great love, rather than perfect love.

I really wanted to ask her to be on my show for a while, but I’m not gonna lie, I was a bit nervous to do it. I was sure she'd say no, and then I'd feel crappy for a few days. Then of course, I saw the staggering parallels between what it meant for me to ask Jessie to be on my show, and my clients going out of their comfort zone to go on dates.

    Here's what you’ll learn:

    1. Why striving for great love, rather than perfect love creates amazing relationships
    2. The importance of knowing yours + your partner’s love language
    3. Managing conflict in a loving, heartfelt way
    4. How self-care directly affects her relationship with Gerard, and it helps her to move into a place of seeing her chronic pain as a gift rather than burden

    About Jessie:

Jessie Artigue is a lifestyle expert, on-air host and perpetual big sister. She co-hosts a podcast with her husband called Marriage is Funny (because it is) and blogs at Style + Pepper about creating a happy, healthy + flavorful life. She loves the chance to pop in and share her style tips on Good Morning America, Harper's Bazaar, Lucky Magazine and more, but spends most of her spare time running or writing or reading on the beach near their Southern California home.

    Show notes

I did something a littledifferent today.

When I tell women about the power of dating yourself + about thechallenge, I find I get 1 of 2 responses:

A: That sounds awesome! I lovethat, I don’t give myself enough ‘me’ time, and that’s something Iwant to work on.

B: You mean like buying myselfflowers, little gifts, or going out by myself? I don’t get it. I dothat all the time, and it hasn’t helped me.

Well, my guest on the show todayISN’T another wellness, self-care, or lifestyle expert {but I lovethose guests too!}. Today, my guest is Debbie Novitsky, and she isa Date Yourself Challenge alumna + one of my clients inside theDating Mindset Bootcamp.

In this episode, Debbie shareshow dating herself helped her:

    • Stopwaiting on him to find her
    • Become more magnetic to the people aroundher
    • Notjust love herself, but do THIS instead
    • Builther confidence to live the life she dreamed of + build her ownbusiness

EP17: Kaila Prins on Body Image, Discovery After Recovery, and Burlesque Dancing Apr 28, 2016
    Show notes

Today on Date Yourself Radio I’ve got Body Positive Wellness Coach Kaila Prins. I recently met Kaila through a women’s podcasting networking group, and when I learned about her story, I knew I wanted her to share it with you all. Kaila describes herself as a happy kid growing up, but once she realized that boys were a thing you could kiss, have crushes on, and be crushed on, it sent her down a path of not understanding who really owned her body.

What I really loved about Kaila’s story is that her journey from disordered eating goes beyond recovery. She wanted to live beyond the “strong not skinny” mentality of many women recovering from disordered eating. She went into a phase she calls discovery, which is about filling the void of obsessing over food + exercise with other things. Enter pole + burlesque dancing. Aka, dating yourself.

    In this episode, Kaila shares:

    1. How she didn’t know her body belonged to her
    2. How she started dating after recovering from orthorexia, anorexia, and exercise addiction
    3. How recovery wasn’t enough for Kaila to move beyond disordered eating

    About Kaila

Kaila Prins is a body positive wellness coach, burlesque and pole dancer, and voiceover actor. After recovering from orthorexia, anorexia, and exercise addiction, she has set out to understand and overturn the reasons why we're all so darn uncomfortable in our own bodies. Using her podcast, Finding Our Hunger, as the medium and burlesque, pole dance, and drag as a message, Kaila Prins speaks radical truths about body positivity, health at every size, feminism, sexuality, and recovery...usually while covered in glitter.

EP15: The Parallels Between A Healthy Relationship to Fitness + Healthy Relationships Apr 14, 2016
    Show notes

My journey in the self-development space began almost 10 years ago as a fitness instructor. I taught Cardio Combo, Kickboxing, Muscle Pump, the works.

In fact, it was my experience as a fitness instructor that inspired my original business as a health coach. A lot of my students came into my fitness classes asking me to ‘work them hard’ because of what they ate the night or weekend before.

I’m finally getting back into having a healthy relationship to fitness, which is why I was so excited about this interview. Tanja is spot ons, and I love the parallels she draws between a healthy relationship to fitness + healthy relationships.

    Here’s what you’ll learn:

    1. Why the goal behind your fitness goal is really what to focus on.
    2. How being so obsessed with weight loss + fitness can sabotage your current or future relationships.
    3. How to be okay with where you are now, but still have weight loss or fitness goals.

    About Tanja:

Tanja is a west coast girl, born and raised in British Columbia. She loves climbing to the top of mountains + staring at just about any body of water from the Pacific Ocean to the Vedder River (that flows through my current home, Chilliwack). She also loves an oversized cup of coffee, and listening to podcasts for entrepreneurs. You can find her writing blogs + publishing podcasts to inspire others, continuing her own education, running her fitness studio here in Chilliwack, and working with her amazing clients.
