    Run Eat Drink Podcast

Welcome to the Run Eat Drink Podcast!  This is the podcast where we embark on exciting adventures, combining our love for running, delicious food, and tasty beverages. Whether you’re an elite runner aiming for victory or just starting your “Couch to 5K” journey, we’ve got something for you. Let’s dive into the three pillars of our show:

Accomplish (Run): Accomplishment is deeply personal. Are you eyeing a race series win, planning your next “run-cation,” or hoping to set a personal record in your next half-marathon? Each week, we feature fantastic destination races from around the country. Discover scenic courses, learn about the charities they support, and get inspired to lace up those running shoes. And when we’re not on the road, we share interviews, training tips, and insights from our own running journey.

Explore (Eat): Running and traveling go hand in hand. As we explore new places, we also explore local cuisine. We seek out hidden gems—the eateries that locals rave about. Bold flavors, interesting dishes, and passion for food—that’s what we’re after. After each race, join us as we wander the city streets, discovering post-race refueling spots. Whether it’s a gastropub, a food truck, or a cozy café, we’ve got dining options to satisfy your cravings.

Indulge (Drink): When the running is done, it’s time to unwind. We raise our glasses to celebrate our accomplishments. Local breweries, coffee shops, speakeasies, and watering holes—these are our destinations. From craft beers to artisanal cocktails, we explore the beverage scene. Cheers to a well-deserved drink after crossing the finish line!

Join us on this journey of accomplishment, exploration, and indulgence. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or a curious foodie, there’s a place for you at the Run Eat Drink Podcast.

    RUN

On a more serious note, we discuss Aimee’s surgery and where we go from here. She’s hanging in there on the road back to recovery. She starts physical therapy on Christmas Eve! Wish her luck! It will be tough, but we know it will be worth it!

On a happier note, it is Christmas week! So we thought we’d talk about all the gifts running has brought into our lives, especially in 2020, that we are grateful for and will celebrate this holiday season.

Don’t forget the holiday virtual race we will be running on Christmas Day! Run for A Claus, supporting the Salvation Army, is now closed, but If you had the chance to join our team, make sure you post pics and tag them with #runforaclaus, @runforaclaus, #runcationnation, and @ocmarathon so we can share in a holiday celebration and virtual run together!

    EAT

Holiday meal traditions are near and dear to our hearts and bellies this week! So, we thought we’d celebrate them by talking about some of ours. In addition, you all came through with some fantastic meal favorites so we share traditions from you as well! Thanks, Runcation Nation! We will be thinking of you as we eat one of our favorite new traditions from the last few years, Christmas Eve dinner from The Columbia Restaurant in Tampa!

    DRINK

Eight-Foot Brewing here in Cape Coral had some tasty new releases this past weekend. So we decided to head to their Saturday event and try two of them. Apple Cinnamon Doughnut made with apple, cinnamon, and marshmallow comes in at 11.4% ABV! Plus it is served with a Fort Myers favorite Divine Doughnut! Breakfast Stout was made with Maple Syrup and local Urban Buzz Coffee. At 10%, this tasty stout was served with a quarter of a waffle and maple smoke! We are so happy to have such creative minds in our local breweries. Congratulations, Eight-Foot Brewing on two great releases! We can’t wait to try more.

    RUN

Medal Chasers does it again by brining us a great medal for the One Chance 5K. This Doctor Strange-themed run has a great GLOW-IN-THE-DARK medal! Plus it supports a great organization, Ava’s Avengers. We recap our race experience and talk about the swag!

On a more serious note, we discuss some news Aimee received and how that might change our show a bit over the coming weeks.

    EAT

If you have been a long-time listener of our show, you know we love Raglan Road in Disney Springs. With live races few and far between lately, we have been lucky enough to take virtual runs on the road up to Disney, where we feel super safe, and get away for shorter runcations to celebrate our birthdays this month. Both times we went to this great restaurant. Raglan Road gave us an awesome experience with live music and delectable food in their bangers and mash as well as braised beef entrees. We break them down here. They gave us a bread pudding birthday celebration that wasn’t to be missed, too!

    DRINK

Raglan Road has both great beer and whiskey! So we talk beer and whiskey flights.

Tullamore Dew was in Aimee’s Midlands Flight and Dana got the Bushmills Trio. Plus we revisit Tri Wishes from Crooked Can made especially for Raglan Road. What a delicious amber beer!

RED Episode 142: Elite Events Thanksgiving Day 5K and Casa Santo Stefano in Tampa Dec 01, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

    RUN

We are recapping this year’s experience at the Elite Events Turkey Trot that we ran live on Thanksgiving last Thursday! The medal was bigger, but the experience reminded us of last year while the folks from Elite Events made sure everyone was comfortable and had plenty of space to socially distance. The post-race treats were great and the opportunity for photos was so nice. Elite Events has race results posted online and finisher videos, too!

We also completed a virtual race - Richard’s Run for Life. It is a 5K to raise funds for the Moffitt Cancer Center. Aimee and Dana did their races in different ways and we recap that this week. The end result was the same: supporting a great organization and getting a $25 gift card to use at Ulele or the Columbia Restaurant. Yum!

    EAT

The Columbia Restaurant Group opened its newest restaurant two weeks ago in Tampa, Casa Santo Stefano! We got to see their beautiful new space just down the street from their Columbia Restaurant location in Ybor City. This one took over an old pasta factory and pays homage to Sicilian classics on their menu. We started with Arancini, sampled an amazing salad in Valenti’s Burrata, had a classic in Spaghetti Con Pulpette (Spaghetti with Meatballs), and a unique dish in Spaghetti Al Nero Con Polpo (Squid Ink Spaghetti with Octopus). Delightful and delicious, the meal was a wonderful way to celebrate Aimee’s birthday!

    DRINK

Casa Santo Stefano also has great cocktail selections. We wanted to try wine from their beautiful upstairs wine cellar. It was so hard to choose. Our server, Val, steered us in the right direction. We will be back for wine but focused on cocktails. The Casa Negroni made with Sicilian gin, highlighted the floral notes of the gin. The 1925 Manhattan, named for the year the building opened, was just the right amount of sweetness and smoke.

Just some wonderful notes on their amazing customer service: Val checked in with us at the perfect time during each course of the meal and he was ready to make the recommendations we needed for a perfect meal. The entire staff signed a card for us and presented us with a great lemon pound cake dessert to help celebrate the occasion. We felt like family. Matteo, a manager at the restaurant, gave us a tour of the building after our meal. We saw the kitchens and dessert stations where the magic happens. We even got a sneak peek of the upstairs space that has yet to open where there will be small plates and beverages of a different variety than the restaurant downstairs. Congratulations to the Columbia Restaurant Group on the newest addition to their family of amazing restaurants. We can’t wait to return!

    THAT’S A WRAP!

RED Episode 141: The Tampa Trifecta Nov 24, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

    RUN

We are revisiting the Elite Events Turkey Trot that we ran last year! It was live then, and it appears to be happening live again this year! We are so excited. The few live events we have participated in over the last two months have made us think back to all that we have to be thankful for in our running community during this challenging year.

We are also doing a virtual race - Richard's Run for Life. It is a 5K to raise funds for the Moffitt Cancer Center. There is still time to join the Run Eat Drink Podcast Team! Usually, this race is held in Tampa at night during the first weekend in November. This year, it is virtual, but we can't wait to support the Columbia Restaurant Group in meeting their goal of raising $150,000 for this organization doing the important work of supporting those battling cancer. Plus, you get a $25 gift card to use at Ulele or the Columbia Restaurant. Yum! They have even created a playlist on Spotify to run to when you complete the virtual. Here. It is on Apple Music, too!

Thank you for all you do to support our show. To all of the Runcation Nation, have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

    EAT

This year, we share our favorites from the Tampa Trifecta! That means favorite appetizers, entrees, and desserts from Columbia Restaurant, Ulele, and Goody Goody. From Okra Fries to Crab Croquettes and Butterscotch Pie, we want you all to come down when travel resumes and have a great meal with us at one of the fantastic locations!

    DRINK

Columbia Restaurant, Ulele, and Goody Goody have exceptional beverages, too! We share some great beer, coffee, and dessert beverages for you to keep in mind when visiting these Tampa staples. Wedding beer? Root beer float? Coffee? Pete's Manhattan? Yes, please! These are strong recommendations to keep in mind when visiting the Tampa area.

Also, we can't wait to try their newest restaurant that opened last Thursday, Casa Santo Stefano! Congratulations to the Columbia Restaurant Group on the latest addition to their family of fantastic restaurants.

RED Episode #140: Army Ten-Miler, MREs, and Black Rifle Coffee Nov 17, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

    RUN

The Army Ten-Miler Virtual Race is one we saved for this week as we celebrate Veterans Day, which was on November 11th. We are well past the deadline to submit times but wanted to run this one to honor those we know and those of you in the Runcation Nation who served or have family members who served. We break down the swag bag, medal, and run on this week’s episode.

    EAT

MREs (Meals Ready-to-Eat) Genuine U.S. Military Surplus are on the menu this week. We’ve never had them. How are these meals? Worthy of our soldiers? We tried two varieties and recorded our live reactions this week! The first was chicken, noodles, and vegetables in sauce. The second was a beef brisket entree. We talk about these MREs as items to consider when we are hit with a natural disaster, much like we have a hurricane kit with some canned goods in case we need them. These MREs have a longer shelf-life than some canned goods do, so they may be options that are worthy of consideration, although it may take some time to find a variety suitable to your palate.

    DRINK

Black Rifle Coffee has a reputation for making great coffee and supporting our veterans. This week we share with you another variety that is available in our hometown. We picked it up from Shoot Center here in Cape Coral. It is called CAF Coffee Roast. It is smooth and has a caffeine punch! We also tried their Combat Cocoa Canister. The cocoa is milk chocolate goodness perfect for a cold fall night when you need a comforting beverage. You can make it with regular milk, but we had it with almond milk, and it was delicious!

RED Episode #139: Friendly Neighborhood Run 5K and Splitsville in Orlando Nov 10, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

    RUN

It’s time to recap a Friendly Neighborhood Run from Medal Chasers. This 5K supports the Pinky Swear Foundation. This foundation helps kids fighting cancer and their families with financial and emotional support. The weather was humid, but the setting we chose for this virtual race gave us the chance to run at Epcot around the World Showcase. We decided to walk it and enjoy people watching and seeing the beautiful view of the water around the showcase. The medal is a spiderweb and Spider-Man is on a spinner, upside down, and getting ready to cast a web. It was a great way to get some miles in away from home.

We talked during this episode about some of the components of our training program with America’s coach and Olympian, Jeff Galloway. Find. out more about his run-walk-run training at www.JeffGalloway.com.

    EAT

We are so happy that Splitsville is open again in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. It is the best place for sushi at Disney Springs. We are happy to see these menu items return. The Fantasy Roll is a beautiful roll that showcases salmon, shrimp, and tuna with a kimchee ponzu sauce. The Super Tuna is Ahi, tempura shrimp, cream cheese, tempura flakes, and spicy mayo. The standout was our waiter’s recommendation, Grilled avocado, and Ahi tuna with that kimchee ponzu sauce. His name was Cody and his new addition to this dish, that we have had before, was to add a spicy krab mix. So good!

    DRINK

Cody also recommended a frozen drink from the menu at Splitsville called Swampwater. With 151 Rum, this drink could sneak up on you because the lemonade and blue raspberry that create the green swampy color make it sweet and tart but not alcoholic in flavor. We also got the Old Fashioned on their menu and with Old Forrester bourbon, it does not disappoint and is a perfectly balanced cocktail.

RED Quick Bite #98 Patron Meg Brower’s Race Recap Wallis Sands Half Marathon LIVE! Nov 09, 2020
    Show notes

    Send us Fan Mail

From Our Patron, Meg Brower- A Wallis Sands Half Marathon Race Recap from October 2020

This week, we have another race recap from a live and in-person race. It is from our patron, Meg Brower! Thank you for sending this in and letting us accomplish, explore, and indulge along with you! We look forward to a time when we can travel, see your part of the country, and run with you!

Meg was also kind enough to send us some race recommendations for New Hampshire, so we can all be prepared when in-person races return to us!

New England Race Recommendations from Meg:

If you are interested in running a race up in the NH seacoast Area these would be my recommendations once races come back in person:

Wallis Sands Half Marathon in Rye, NH, usually in May

Smuttynose Rockfest Half Marathon in Hampton, NH usually the first weekend in October (This one has entry to a free concert of local bands, a small lobster roll, and chowder at the finish. In addition to your half zip race shirt and medal. They also have a 5k distance option usually)

Saunders 10k Rye, NH 3rd Thursday night in August

Great Island 5k ( Sunday of Columbus Day Weekend) New Castle, NH

That all being said, if you are only ever going to do one New England Race, I would do the Falmouth Road Race in Falmouth, MA. It is the MOST scenic race I have ever run. It is all along the ocean, all 7 miles. It starts in Woods Hole, MA, and ends in Falmouth, MA. It’s a point to point course. Dave McGivallry (Boston Marathon Race Director) is the race director for this one as well. I have run this race 8 times as my Aunt has a home in Falmouth, MA. It is the 3rd Sunday in August. It is a lottery only race. Totally worth it, though.

Also, the Boston BAA 5K, which is the Saturday before the Marathon, is a great one too but more big city, not ocean scenic. You may have to choose between this one and Star Wars Weekend at Walt Disney World, though!

    THAT’S A WRAP!

Have you participated in a live and in-person race recently? Share a recap with the rest of the Runcation Nation and us. It is a great way to travel and run virtually until we can all run together safely again! E-mail a written recap or audio recording to info@runeatdrink.net. You can call or text it to us at (941) 677-2733.

RED Episode #138: RED Episode #138: Oops, We Did It Again... Live! Nov 03, 2020
    Show notes

    RUN

Oops, we did it again! Actually, we did another live race on purpose! 2020 LCEC Goblin Gallop 5k was a local race at Jaycee Park in Cape Coral to benefit the United Way. It was early morning by the water and we got to see the sunrise. There was a breeze, too! It was a flat course with one water stop and a medal for all finishers that was shaped like a pumpkin! We dressed up as our favorite superheroes to run the race. So happy that we got to run it! We were out there to enjoy it and enjoy it we did. Thanks to Rachel at The Run Shoppe and everyone at 3D Racing who worked to put this fun race together!

    EAT

We had a great dinner at the Fish Tale Grill to celebrate. It is stone crab season! It’s been a while since we had a great seafood dinner and this one came to play! We split a Captain’s platter with shrimp cocktail, snow crab, stone crab, king crab, lobster tail, and clams plus so much more! It came with cocktail sauce, drawn butter, and a creamy mustard dip. The meat was briny and juicy. The sauces complemented the meats. We ordered an extra side of stone crab because... tis’ the season!

    DRINK

It was National American Beer Day last week! We decided to celebrate with some classic American beers on a live video with our Runcation Nation. This week, we had our friends from our local taproom and package store, No. 3 Craft Brews, select a customized six-pack of American brews for us. We break down two of them on the show this week. Sierra Nevada’s Dankful IPA was an IPA that we were fans of and that supports nonprofits doing good work in communities. DuClaw Brewing Company has a beer that brings us back to childhood and gave us a great sour that Dana loved called Sour Me Unicorn Farts. A review of all six will be available for our patrons, too!

    RUN

When we ran at Walt Disney World earlier this month, we completed another in the virtual race series from Medal Chasers called the I Can Run All Day 10K. This race benefits Team RWB (Red White and Blue). Its mission is to connect Veterans to their communities through physical and social activities. We ran it at Disney Springs. The medal is a great one featuring a spinner of Captain America’s shield. We are so happy to bring the race to Disney while RunDisney events have gone virtual for 2020.

    EAT

Baseline Tap House is a great place to go for beer, cocktails, and small plates. The vibe is so great. It’s a tiny place next to the Sci-Fi Drive-In Theatre in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. The California Cheese and Charcuterie Plate is an amazing combination of cheese, meat, fruit, and toasted baguettes. Coffee-rubbed Rib-Eye Beef Puff with Olive Salad is so tasty! These two plates were so tasty. We would have them again and again. Small bites are great to share on a hot day in a theme park. A bit of delicious food that won’t weigh you down, so you can continue to enjoy the theme park and attractions after your meal.

    DRINK

It’s National American Beer Day! We have to celebrate by talking about a couple of beers that we had a Baseline Tap House brewed in the USA! Golden Road 329 Lager at ABV 4.8% was light-bodied, refreshing, and great for hot Florida weather. It was not bitter or hoppy. It had a slight bread and malt flavor and was a light yellow color. We also had Golden Road Hefeweizen at 5% ABV. It had notes of orange and coriander without any bitterness. This place sports great beer and a laid-back atmosphere, plus a great playlist full of covers of popular songs. Come hang out, relax, and cool off after a day at Hollywood Studios. We just wish it was open later so we could stay longer!
