The Game Awards - GOTY 2023 Predictions Nov 01, 2023

Show notes

This will be my Game of the Year 2023 predictions as we wait for the The Game Awards 2023 nominations to come out. The GOTY 2023 nominations will be a very tight race in light of how great this year was. Baldur's Gate 3 and The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom are likely going head to head. But what about Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or Super Mario Bros Wonder? More than that, what about Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Sea of Stars, Final Fantasy 16, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, Lies of P, or Street Fighter 6? And yes, I will talk about why I don't think a Starfield GOTY nomination will happen. The Game Awards is an annual awards ceremony honoring achievements in the video game industry. Established in 2014, the shows are produced and hosted by game journalist Geoff Keighley, who worked on its predecessor, the Spike Video Game Awards, for over ten years. Alan Wake 2 Review Situation - Where is Xbox? Oct 30, 2023

Show notes

I wanted to give an Alan Wake 2 review roundup, but I found a strange trend. If you are looking for an Alan Wake 2 Xbox review you might struggle to find more than a few. Is this related to Alan Wake 2 Xbox Series S performance or something else entirely? The way the publisher distributed the review codes is extremely interesting. Why would Alan Wake 2 PS5 review codes be given priority and timing over the Xbox? I think there are three huge reasons why this is happening, and it is a disservice to Xbox console owners. Alan Wake II is a survival horror game developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Epic Games Publishing. Story of Alan Wake. Alan Wake went missing in 2010. He was a bestselling writer based in New York City. On a vacation in the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Alice Wake, he came face to face with a force of supernatural darkness. It brought Wake’s writing, a horror story, to life. After The Xbox Activision Deal They Are Doubling Down? Oct 26, 2023

Show notes

The Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, did an interview with MSN about the Xbox Activision deal and how they will be doubling down as a game publisher and game developer. The Xbox Activision Blizzard deal puts Xbox Game Pass and the company into a very strong position, but what does the future look like? With the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S sales showing drops in sales practically ever quarter, will Xbox move away from hard and console focus? As they become more of an ecosystem, what will first party Xbox games look like in the future? The biggest opportunity for growth is mobile gaming and cloud gaming, so will console flagship games even be a priority? Squadron 42 Everything We Know Oct 25, 2023

Show notes

The latest Squadron 42 trailer is making waves as the game is now feature complete. My Squadron 42 I held the line reaction is that I am blown away. And the Squadron 42 release date is likely going to land in 2024 since they are now in the polish phase. Squadron 42 is a standalone single player game that is connected to the world of Star Citizen. Can Spider-Man 2 Win GOTY 2023? Oct 24, 2023

Show notes

Now that Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has released, the question is can it win Game of the Year 2023? My initial Spider-Man 2 review is incredibly positive but the game of the year nominations will be tough this year. A Spider-Man 2 GOTY 2023 win would be huge as an action adventure superhero game. I want to talk about the good and the bad because there are Spider-Man 2 bugs in the game. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is an action-adventure game developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Phil Spencer Interview on the Xbox Activision Deal Oct 21, 2023

Show notes

The latest Phil Spencer interview on the Xbox Activision deal for the official Xbox podcast. The episode is called "Phil Spencer on Activision Blizzard King + Xbox" and he spoke about Xbox Game Pass, Call of Duty, and potentially revisiting older franchises. When will see a Call of Duty Game Pass release? Will Xbox Game Pass games see a regular flow or remakes and remasters? Phil spoke very frankly and candidly about it, and it shows the priority of console sales and what we can expect in the future. This is pretty big Xbox news considering the Microsoft Activision Blizzard deal just closed. Spider-Man 2 Review Roundup - Is Anyone Surprised? Oct 18, 2023

Show notes

This will be a Marvel's Spider-Man 2 review round up that will be SPOILER FREE. Excellent breakdowns of Spider-Man 2 gameplay and performance from the Digital Foundry Spider Man 2 video as well as other outlets. It is clear that each Spider-Man 2 PS5 review is putting this game on a path to awards and commercial success. But will we see a Spider-Man 2 GOTY happen? I want to discuss why I was wrong about the game getting a GOTY 2023 nomination but I still think there are reasons it won't win the big prize while taking home a lot of Game Awards in other categories. Marvel's Spider-Man 2: The next game in the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise, coming to the PlayStation®5 console. Spider-Men, Peter Parker and Miles Morales, return for an exciting new adventure in the critically acclaimed Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise for PS5. The Xbox Activision Deal is Just The Beginning Oct 17, 2023

Show notes

With the Xbox Activision deal approved many feel and fear this is just the beginning. The Microsoft Activision deal will obviously impact Xbox Game Pass games with titles like Call of Duty and World of Warcraft. But what about Amazon, Google, or Tencent? And now Xbox is without excuse for bad or failed games. It will also be interesting to see people who supported the Xbox Activision Blizzard deal suddenly be against potential deals like Disney buying EA or Embracer Group layoffs likely preparing for their own new acquisitions. The new landscape of gaming and video games is potentially headed to a consolidation battle that won't help gamers. The PlayStation 5 Slim is Not a Slim Oct 12, 2023

Show notes

The latest PlayStation news is that the PlayStation 5 Slim is not a slim. More than that, the PS5 Slim Digital is more expensive which is causing criticism. If you compare the PS5 Slim vs PS5 the differences are there, but is it worth an extra $50 for the digital version? Another question about this is about the PS5 Pro release and if it will happen in 2024 after they have unified the PS5 model into one. The PlayStation 5 is a home video game console developed by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Every Game Can Be An RPG? Oct 11, 2023

Show notes

Can every game be an RPG or is the term being over used? With a game like Baldur's Gate 3 gunning for GOTY 2023 and games like Starfield and Final Fantasy 16 also releasing, it's a good time for RPG games. But some feel the term is being over used when a game like Horizon Forbidden West is classified as an "Action RPG". But what about games like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 or Star Wars Jedi Survivor where clear RPG elements exist but the focus is more on action and adventure. Todd Howard recently commented on the idea that anything can be an RPG and I want to discuss if the term is being over used or if people are gatekeeping something they feel they need to protect. The definition of an RPG game: A role-playing game is a game in which players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making regarding character development.
