The Console Wars: Why I'm Walking Away Nov 30, 2023

Show notes

Recently I have found my coverage of gaming news falling into the console wars. What felt like a natural evolution for me as a gamer in the PlayStation vs Xbox debate turned into something that made some discussions unenjoyable. The show and content are not changing, but the hopefully the tone will. Walking away from the console war does not mean I will change what I cover and how I cover it. But I want to change the tone and the vibe of how we disagree and have discussions. I should be able to be critical of Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation 5 games without it turning into a fight. Disagreement and discussion is prized on this channel, and I want to do that in a way that aligns with my beliefs and fosters an environment that promotes healthy dialogue. So we will still cover things like Xbox news, PlayStation news, the Xbox tax, Starfield negative reviews, or the PlayStation showcase. But I want to do it in a way that welcomes discussion and isn't so console war oriented. The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered - Another Remaster? Nov 29, 2023

Show notes

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was announced and has many people asking, why another remaster? Some of us haven't played so a TLOU2 remastered would be a great way to experience it. But others are taking issue with the lack of a Naughty Dog new game and Factions 2 looking indefinitely delayed. I am interested in the TLOU 2 remaster as someone who was late to PlayStation games and I'm fully in support of more PS5 games launching that were previously very popular. But I fully understand why people don't want it or are being critical about it. The Last of Us Part II Remastered will feature enhanced graphics, including native 4K output1 in Fidelity Mode, 1440p upscaled to 4K1 in Performance Mode, an Unlocked Framerate option for TVs that support VRR, increased texture resolution, increased Level-of-Detail distances, improved shadow quality, animation sampling rate, and more. My Game of the Year 2023 predictions were 6/6: Baldur's Gate 3, The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros Wonder, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, RE4 Remake, and Alan Wake 2. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 - The Truth Comes Out Nov 14, 2023

Show notes

Those looking for an explanation for how Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 released in such a bad state now have one. According to Bloomberg the MW3 campaign and COD MW3 multiplayer were built in a very short window. Even Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 zombies is being criticized. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a 2023 first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It is the twentieth game in the Call of Duty series, and third entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series, serving as the direct sequel to 2022's Modern Warfare II. The Last of Us Factions 2 is Still Coming? Nov 09, 2023

Show notes

According to the game director The Last of Us Factions 2 is still coming and he is still working on it. Those hoping for TLOU Factions 2 to release may get their wish in the future. Many of us thought that we were going to see The Last of Us Factions 2 cancelled. There are also rumors about The Last of Us 3 being in active development as well as The Last of Us 2 Factions being "on ice". We have also heard that The Last of Us 2 Remastered may be happening, but I think it will likely be a Director's Cut. An untitled The Last of Us game is in development by Naughty Dog. A multiplayer game set in the world of The Last of Us, the game is a follow-up to the Factions multiplayer mode featured in the 2013 video game. Is Xbox Becoming a Publisher? (Phil Spencer Interview) Nov 08, 2023

Show notes

The latest Phil Spencer interview seems to point to more evolution for the Xbox platform. He refers to Xbox as a community even with respect to PlayStation and Nintendo and other devices. It seems as though the ecosystem evolution of Xbox Game Pass may look more like a video game publisher than we initially thought. The Xbox Activision deal isn't the latest Xbox news but it certainly is changing the way Phil Spencer sees the brand. The recent Famitsu interview goes beyond Call of Duty and sounds like the platform is becoming a publisher. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Review: It's Worse Than I Expected Nov 07, 2023

Show notes

Well, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 campaign has been playable for a weekend, and the reviews are worse than I expected. The COD MW3 campaign is so short. Virtually every Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 review is extremely negative and critical. Most of this centers around how short the campaign is, in addition to the open combat missions being incredibly bland and disappointing. My current COD MW3 review is nothing short of a disaster. It is clear now more than ever than Modern Warfare 3 is DLC and nothing more. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is an upcoming first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It is the twentieth game in the Call of Duty series, and third entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series, serving as the direct sequel to 2022's Modern Warfare II. Bungie Layoffs 2023 - Who Is To Blame? Nov 06, 2023

Show notes

My friend @30nsg and I will discuss the news about Bungie layoffs that happened recently. We both covered Destiny 2 together for many years, so I wanted his perspective on this. I have not covered Destiny since early 2021 but the Destiny 2 layoffs are too pertinent to our history as gamers to ignore. Bungie, Inc. is an American video game company based in Bellevue, Washington, and a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The company was established in May 1991 by Alex Seropian, who later brought in programmer Jason Jones after publishing Jones's game Minotaur: The Labyrinths of Crete. Bungie Layoffs - What Happened? Nov 02, 2023

Show notes

The news about Bungie layoffs hit in waves, and now we have substantial information from sources at the company. We will likely see Destiny 2 The Final Shape delayed along with the Marathon release date landing in 2025. I had no plans on covering this but the story became too large to ignore. I haven't covered Destiny the game since early 2021 and this will be focused on what happened with the Destiny 2 layoffs and delays and not the gameplay or content. While initial theories were that PlayStation was the cause of this, it was primarily caused by missed revenue targets and lowered interest in Destiny 2 Final Shape. Analysts do think, however, that PlayStation is lowering costs. Bungie, Inc. is an American video game company based in Bellevue, Washington, and a subsidiary of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Xbox Banning Third Party Controllers Nov 02, 2023

Show notes

The latest Xbox news recently broke that we will see Xbox banning third party controllers in an effort to stop unlicensed controllers from being used. With Xbox banning third party accessories certain important accessibility controllers as well as fighting game controllers will stop working. Obviously this is probably aimed at Call of Duty cheaters now that the Xbox Activision deal is complete. With COD cheaters being a huge problem, Xbox may be taking aim them, but it is turning off well known adapters and controllers. Most notably the Brook Wingman XB 2 Converter and the Brook XB Fighting board won't work any longer which means other controllers like he Quadstick FPS game controller will stop working. This change is obviously well intended to stop cheating, but the unintended consequence is blocking legitimate controllers. What should Xbox do?
