    God Remembered | Sermons+ | Episode 009 Aug 16, 2019
    Show notes

Thank you for joining us for Sermons+! In this podcast, you can expect three things: a summary of the past weekend's sermon, answers to some of the text-in questions from the sermon, as well as the sermon itself. Good disciples ask questions, so keep the questions coming!

Sermon: A Long Long Time Ago God Remembered

    Preacher: Pastor Tim Runtsch

    Text: Genesis 8-9

    Listen to Redeemer's Sermons online

    Watch Redeemer's Services on Facebook

    Text-In Questions:

    1) If the only animals that were left in the world were on the ark, why would Noah risk extinction and sacrifice them? Weren't there only two of each animal?

    2) What was God doing for the almost year that Noah and family were on the ark?

    3) What is "clean animals?" Since there was two of each animals, one male and one female. Which species didn't survive?

    4) Genesis 8:21 talks about God saying that He will never destroy all living creatures as He did with the flood. 2 Peter 3:12 talks about the destruction of the heavens by fire and the elements (not sure what is meant by elements), will melt away. Isn't this just another form of destroying the current earth?

    5) What about all the "sinners" that died while Noah & his family were allowed to live? This has to include children & infants. Did they deserve to be swept away by the flood waters? Could this be an allegory instead of a historical event?

    6) How do Christians get the rainbow back?

    7) If God doubly commanded "Be fruitful and multiply," does that mean contraception is against God's will?

    8) Can you please elaborate about the practice of crossing yourself when you say in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit? I thought only Catholics did this? Can we do it as a Lutheran church member?

Sermon: A Long Long Time Ago God Sent A Flood

    Preacher: Pastor Caleb Cox

    Text: Genesis 6-7

    Listen to Redeemer's Sermons online

    Watch Redeemer's Services on Facebook

    Text-In Questions:

    1) What about the fish and sea creatures? They're not mentioned in the flood destruction.

BONUS QUESTION: How do we know that this story of Noah and a world-wide flood is actually true and believable?

2-3) Why does Genesis say that Noah was 400 years old? Please expand upon the phrase that "Noah is over 600 years old"? Does this pertain to God's time vs. our time?

    4) With the state of the world today, how do we know that God won't do the same thing to us that He did to the people in Genesis 6-7?

    5) In the 1 Peter passage that you read, it says that "this water which symbolizes baptism that now saves you." Does baptism actually save us? I thought that it was faith in Jesus that saves us?

    The Son Was Sacrificed | Sermons+ | Episode 007 Aug 02, 2019

Thank you for joining us for Sermons+! In this podcast, you can expect three things: a summary of the past weekend's sermon, answers to some of the text-in questions from the sermon, as well as the sermon itself. Good disciples ask questions, so keep the questions coming!

Sermon: A Long Long Time Ago The Son Was Sacrificed

    Preacher: Pastor Frank Johnson

    Text: Genesis 4:1-16

    Listen to Redeemer's Sermons online

    Watch Redeemer's Services on Facebook

    Text-In Questions:

    1) Were there other humans on earth outside of Eden? Who was Cain worried was going to kill him once he left the Garden? Were not Adam, Eve, Cain and Able the first humans?

    2) When God sent Cain away from him did Cain ever reconcile with God?

    3) If someone is (non-violently) attacking us were are to forgive. But at what point is it ok to defend yourself and/or defend your reputation or business?

    4) A few weeks ago we learned that God put a curse on the serpent but not on man. In Genesis 4, God put a curse on Cain. What's with that?

    5) I see God giving grace to Cain by his pronouncement of protection on his life. As the Scripture says: "God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble." Where in Genesis 4 might such humility be found in Cain? Is his regret in verses 13-14 sufficient? Does the text offer this possibility?

    6) What might the "mark" that God placed on Cain to keep him safe have been? I've heard rumors that this means that God changed his skin color? Is that true??

    Abortion w/ Jen McLain | The Table | Episode 009 Jul 23, 2019

Abortion is one of the hottest and most divisive topics in our culture today. Lines are drawn and people think it's a black and white issue where there is no in-between. From politics to religion, there are countless influences on how we view abortion and those who have had an abortion. Christians and the church typically get a very specific reputation for how we see and treat those who have had abortions. But what if we took the time to stop, lead with grace and listen. What if we had eyes to see what others see? What if we set up systems and walked the walk in supporting people both during and after their pregnancy?

In this podcast, Pastors Sam and Caleb are joined by special guest, Jen McLain, from the Alpha Center in Fort Collins, CO to talk about Abortion. Topics include the recent laws passed in New York and Vermont, the response in laws passed in the Midwest and South, the laws and statistics of abortion in Colorado and the main focus: how do we love and see people the way that Jesus loves and sees them? So grab a drink, pull up a seat and join us at The Table as we talk about Abortion.

    Text-In Questions:

    1) How long were Adam and Eve able to enjoy life in the Garden before The Fall? Was it days, weeks, years?

    2) Why did God ask where Adam and Eve were in the Garden? Why would he not know where they were already? I thought God knew everything.

    3) Why did God put the forbidden tree in the Garden when he knows all and that we would eat the fruit and sin?

    4) The Bible says Eve saw the fruit as "desirable for gaining wisdom." Was this description true or a faulty perception of hers? I'm unsure if they learned they were naked before the proper time (if there would have been one) or if it caused them to see nakedness in a negative light. The Bible encourages us to pursue wisdom multiple times, so why would the fruit be off limits?

    5) Why do I have to suffer because someone a long time ago ate a piece of fruit?

    6) I sometimes doubt God. What do I do with my doubts? Can I be a good Christian and still have doubts?

    Political Identity | The Table | Episode 008 Jul 16, 2019

We'd love your feedback! PLEASE TAKE OUR SHORT SURVEY

When it comes to politics, we typically focus more on what divides us over what unites us. Unfortunately, we tend to do the same in our churches. But because of what Jesus has done for us, we have one big thing, the most important thing, in common. And this commonality in Jesus unites us much more than the division that comes from politics. We are so much more than just our political party affiliation. We ask the questions: How should I vote? What should we spend our time doing? How should I interact with other Christians who are not in the same party as I am?

In this podcast, Pastors Sam and Caleb and special guest, Pastor Scott, talk about politics and political identity. Topics include Two Kingdom Theology, power politics, Avengers: Infinity War, environment, abortion, government size, NFL players kneeling for the anthem and the polarization of parties. So grab a drink, pull up a seat and join us at The Table as we talk about Political Identity.

    Text-In Questions:

    1) Why doesn't a man have one less rib than a woman if it was taken to make woman?

    2) Is the name Adam singular or plural?

    3) What practical ways can a Christian take a winsome yet truthful stand on marriage as only between one man and one woman in today's non-biblical culture? Especially if I have LGBTQ friends that I love and care about?

    4) In the Gospel reading, Jesus says that divorce is only permissible in the case of sexual immorality. Is that really the only thing that makes divorce ok?

    5) I think that the church puts a lot of emphasis on marriage. What about those of us who are single? Are we not complete until we find someone to marry and be "one flesh?"

    Liturgy of Worship | The Table | Episode 007 Jul 09, 2019
    Show notes

Every week on the same day, at the same time, at the same place, a group of people gather together to be recreated, restored and re-storied. Of course, we're talking about worship. For centuries, ever since the beginning of the church, brothers and sisters in Christ have gathered together to be reminded of the story of God that we live in and live out. But why do we do the things that we do in worship? Why do we confess our sins every week? Why do we always recite the Lord's Prayer? What's the deal with the Creed?

LITURGY: Christian liturgy is a pattern for worship used by a Christian church on a regular basis. It comes from the ancient Greek leitourgia, which literally means "work of the people". It is a literal translation of the two words "litos ergos" or "public service".

In this podcast, Pastors Sam and Caleb and special guest, Pastor Tim talk about the format of our worship service and why we do the things that we do. So grab a drink, pull up a seat and join us at The Table as we talk about the Liturgy of Worship.
