    Reality-Based Leadership

The average person spends 2.5 hours a day in drama at work. That’s lost time, lost energy, and lost results.

Leading beyond drama isn’t optional anymore. It’s the skill that separates reactive managers from transformational leaders. So how do you reclaim those hours, call your team to greatness, and restore sanity to your workplace?

    Welcome to Reality-Based Leadership.

Hosted by Alex Dorr, CEO of Reality-Based Leadership, this podcast delivers the mindset shifts and practical tools leaders need to eliminate emotional waste, build true accountability, and turn excuses into measurable results. With years of experience working alongside leaders across industries, Alex brings real-world application, bold insight, and next practices that create ROI in the room and momentum long after.

If you are ready to elevate performance and lead what’s next, you are in the right place.

#29: What We Mean When We Talk About "Trust" Mar 08, 2018
    Show notes

When I hear people talk about trust in the workplace, I get concerned because we make it sound like something we can create for another. But that leaves us dependent on other people, and creates situations where people end up waiting to be offered something. When you say there is a lack of trust in your organization, is it due to leadership or due to your own choices? That's what I want to get into today. Whether or not you trust someone has a lot to do with you.

When you are blaming others for your circumstances and not taking control of your own actions, that is when your ego really comes out swinging. And I want to get into today one of the major factors of blame, something I like to call learned helplessness. Learned helplessness is the opposite of accountability, and personal accountability is the death of the ego. And we all know that when you ditch your ego, it allows for growth and collaboration. #26: This is Where Conflict Comes From Jan 31, 2018
    Show notes

In today's episode I want to talk about conflict. As a researcher, I've spent so many hours dissecting and trying to understand conflict and why it happens. What I've found is this: so much of the time, the root cause of conflict is ambiguity. And a leader's job is to facilitate clarifying conversations. Listen in for more on this and what else I've discovered are the best ways to fix it.

#22: When a High Performer is High Drama Dec 20, 2017
    Show notes

A couple months ago, Jonathan Solórzano-Hamilton, a software architect at UCLA, wrote a Medium article called "We fired our top talent. Best decision we ever made." It's no surprise it took off - to many people, that makes no sense at all. But it struck a chord with me. I know that no matter how high performing someone is, if they are high drama, they can't stay. I got to chat with Jonathan last week and this is the result our amazing conversation. Enjoy!
