    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Dr. Ben Bocchicchio has been innovating and paving the way in the fields of fitness, exercise, and health since the 1970s. He is the founder of Sports Conditioning in Staten Island, Cardio Management Systems, and is the creator of the S.Ma.R.T.-EX fitness and dieting program. Additionally, Dr. Ben is a scientist, a researcher, and was commissioned as the first legally accepted expert witness in the fields of fitness and exercise.

    In this episode, Drs. Tony and Ben discuss the S.Ma.R.T.-EX program, the importance of muscle development as an anti-aging, cancer preventing, and disease preventing measure, why dietary fat is not bad for you, why sugar is the energy source people should really be worried about, why diet and exercise are so effective when done together, and the benefits of stretching.

She graduated from Boston University School of Medicine and trained at Newton-Wellesley Hospital where she also served as Chief Resident. Dr. Loh worked at HMR and was the medical obesity specialist at Newton-Wellesley Hospital's Center for Weight Loss Surgery before starting her own practice. She serves on the ABOM exam writing board and is a member of the Obesity Medicine Association and The Obesity Society.

    Dr. Nicholas Norwitz: Episode 53 Jul 02, 2021

    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Dr. Nicholas Norwitz is a researcher and scientist. He earned his PhD from Oxford University in only 2 years and is currently working on his MD at Harvard Medical School. His research expertise is ketosis and brain aging; however, he has published scientific papers on topics ranging from neuroscience to heart disease to gastrointestinal health to genetics to bone health to diabetes. He is also co-author of The New Mediterranean Diet Cookbook. He is on a mission to reform our current healthcare system and to educate as many people as possible about the realities of metabolic health.

    In their discussion, Tony and Nicholas talk about the social tension involved in making a seemingly extreme dietary change, gastrointestinal issues and the impact that diet has on said issues, the importance of N=1 experimentation to determine what your body responds positively to, the need for a priority shift in the medical field toward preventative care—and a shift in the incentive structure that would enable this type of care—and advancements in personalized medicine and the need for this type of medicine to continue to come to the fore.

    Additionally, Nicholas shares his perspectives on why people get sick, the main factors leading to compromised health, the standard of care, and what makes a doctor an exceptional practitioner.

For over 20 years, he has been using his expertise to help his patients regain their metabolic health. He is a graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City Medical School and has an MBA from St. Louis University.

    In their discussion, Drs. Padda and Hampton talk about the meaning of health and what percentage of Americans qualify as 'healthy,' why simply medicating diseases is insufficient, why carbohydrates and seed oils are so unhealthy and lead to metabolic disease, how to successfully walk a patient through the journey to metabolic health, the details as to why a pure vegetarian diet is not as healthy as many think, and why, contrary to popular belief, ruminant agriculture is better for the environment than mono cropping and plant agriculture.

    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Dr. Victoria Smoter is the Lead Clinical Psychologist at Advocate Trauma Recovery Center where she has been working for over 20 years. She was the Chief Psychology Resident during her residency and, prior to that, she did her Adult Behavioral Health Doctoral Internship with Primary Care Psychology Associates. She attended the Chicago School of Professional Psychology and has her BA in Clinical Psychology from Washington College.

    In this discussion, Drs. Tony and Victoria talk about the clinical definition of trauma, what types of experiences qualify as trauma according to this definition, how to recognize the presence of trauma in the psyche of someone you know, post-traumatic stress disorder, the process of effectively building trust with a patient, the biology of trauma, the effect of chronic stress on the brain, how an individual's stress and trauma manifest externally in society, how the world views and interacts with people suffering from trauma, and how to help a person walk through their trauma in a healthy way.

    Additionally, Victoria shares a bit about how little traumas accumulating over time can negatively effect us and how the practice of gratitude can help to mitigate these effects.
