    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Dr Stephen Beeson is a Family Medicine Doctor, Medical Group Leader, and physician coach working in San Diego, California. He is the author of two best-selling books (Practicing Excellence and Engaging Physicians) and is an influential speaker for leaders, clinicians, and medical teams on the topics of engaging physicians, purpose-driven work, and coaching to impact patients and clinicians.

    In their discussion, Drs. Tony and Stephen talk about Stephen's work which has to do with improving the ways in which clinicians engage with their patients for maximum success, the factors that make for optimal clinician/patient relationships, how to learn something effectively, what effective coaching looks like, philosophy of happiness (living life according to your deepest held beliefs), how the attitude of a leader effects the whole team, and clinician burnout.

    Additionally, Dr. Beeson shares the factors that coalesce to make a great clinician with regard to patient relations, colleague relations, and efficiency/effectiveness as a doctor.

    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Matt Janes is an autonomic neuroscientist, nutritionist, as well as a functional medicine and mental health practitioner. He is also a keynote speaker, author, and works to help people resolve mental illness and chronic disease using diet. He has trained at Harvard, Berkley, and Liverpool universities as well as at the Institute of Functional Medicine.

    In their discussion, Tony and Matt discuss the sadness, pain, and empathy involved in watching a loved one suffer from a mental illness, the work of Dr. Weston Price, the autonomic nervous system and how balance in this system relates to good mental health, the problem with diet-absolutism, and the role of Functional Medicine in the work that Matt does.

    Additionally, Matt shares some insights about how a person's personality is usually a general indicator of what type of diet will work for them, the importance of tailoring dietary advice to individuals from a scientific perspective, and the science of how sleep, meditation, and exercise effects our mental health.

    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Jamie Sandoval is a nurse practitioner specialist in New Mexico. She has worked in critical care for seven years (mostly as an open heart recovery nurse). She has her bachelor of nursing from Eastern New Mexico University, and did her Family Practice Nurse Practitioner training at Walden University. She currently works for Presbyterian Medical Group Family Practice and is the Medical Director of Round 2 IV Infusion Clinic.

    In their discussion today, Tony talks with Jamie about how she discovered the LowCarb/keto diet as a result of her search for a way of eating that would alleviate the pain from/cure the many ailments she was afflicted with, how she started utilizing her revolutionary dietary discovery to help her patients, and how to communicate effectively with patients and inspire them to take their healthcare into their own hands.

    Additionally, Jamie shares some information regarding the culture of New Mexico and the indigenous communities of the state, the indigenous diet and foods of the state, the history of oppression of the native people in the area, and how this history has led to many of the unhealthy dietary traditions among the native people.

    Episode 31: Discussing the COVID-19 Vaccine with Rashard Johnson Jan 31, 2021

    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Rashard Johnson is the president of Advocate Trinity Hospital in Chicago and South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, Illinois. He has a Masters in Health Services Administration from the University of Central Florida and has vast experience working in hospitals all over the country.

    In this episode Dr. Tony and Rashard discuss a very relevant and timely subject—the COVID-19 vaccine. To begin their conversation, Dr. Tony shares some historical context pertinent for a discussion of why members of the African American community may be hesitant to get vaccinated. Following this, Tony and Rashard share some personal experiences of racism in the workplace, on the road, and in other contexts.

    With regard to the vaccine, Rashard shares some of the apprehensions he initially had to receiving it as well as some questions he had about it, and Dr. Tony responds to each one.

    Additionally, they talk about their respective experiences of receiving the vaccine, why communities of color are disproportionately being effected by the virus, the contents/ingredients of the COVID vaccine, the virus mutation in South Africa and whether the vaccine will be effective against this mutation, whether you should get the vaccine if you have already had the virus or are very healthy already, and the statistical effectiveness of the various vaccines that are available.

Martha Tettenborn RD is a health coach, cancer survivor, author of Hacking Chemo, and, in addition to being a Registered Dietician, is a certified Primal Health Coach focusing on providing help to her clients using the principals of Ancestral Health.

    Over the course of this conversation, Dr. Tony and Martha discuss how cancer metabolizes energy, Canada's new health guidelines, studies regarding the effects of fasting on the success of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and how chemotherapy works in the body to kill cancer and why it can work more effectively when the body is in a fasted state.

    Additionally, Martha talks about the difficulties of being a regulated health professional trying to help patients with unconventional methods, how she has creatively discovered how to reach people with her knowledge in spite of this challenge, and how she stayed in a healthy and positive state of mind during her battle with cancer.

    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Nina Teicholz is the executive director of the Nutrition Coalition, an investigative science journalist, author of the international bestselling book, The Big Fat Surprise, and she has testified before the Canadian Senate as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture with regard to the need to reform dietary guidelines based on sound science. She attended Yale and Stanford where she studied biology and majored in American Studies, received her Masters degree from Oxford, and served as associate director of the Center for Globalization and Sustainable Development at Columbia University.

    The topics of discussion in this episode include how Nina came to be interested in investigating and writing in the field of nutrition, the purpose and scope of different types of scientific studies, which types of studies, largely speaking, are generating the data that is informing our dietary guidelines, the difference between correlation and causation, conflicts of interest and demonstrable bias amongst members of committees and subcommittees whose purpose is to do nutritional research or make guidelines, various other concerns that Nina has with regard to how our nutritional guidelines are formed, how the African American and other minority communities could be particularly effected in a negative way by following the guidelines, and the different ways that diet vs pills work in your body to combat health problems.
