    Welcome to Protecting Your Nest with Dr. Tony Hampton. Dr. Pete Thomas is the former Director of Medical Support Services at Near North Health Service Corporation. He recently joined the executive team of Howard Brown Health and is a practicing attending physician part time with Near North. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry at Xavier University of Louisiana and his Medical Degree from the Chicago Medical School. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Rush University, Illinois. His areas of interest are addictive medicine, HIV, Public Health, and Preventative Medicine.

    In this discussion, Drs. Tony and Pete talk about the experience of recently having a colonoscopy, the need for higher rates of screening for colon cancer in communities of color, the opioid epidemic in the United States, pre-exposure prophylaxis treatment for HIV, how to take measures to protect yourself from HIV, HIV population statistics and the social determinants of health, non-traditional approaches to health care and approaching health from a broader perspective, the importance of fighting inflammation, the multifaceted benefits of exercise, and the need for laugher and being around people who love you.

Dr. Jasmin Searcy-Pate is a children's book author and provides assessment and evidence-based treatment/interventions to patients and their families presenting with general outpatient and pediatric health complications. Dr. Searcy-Pate has provided psychology services for 12+ years in a variety of settings, including pediatric hospitals, military settings, and community-based health clinics. Dr. Searcy-Pate's interests and expertise include general child/adolescent mental health, pediatric health complications, and stress reduction. The focus of her practice is the interactions between the mind and the body and the powerful ways in which biological, psychological and social factors affect physical health and well-being.

He earned his undergraduate degree in International Studies, Spanish, and Marketing at Washington University in Saint Louis. He is currently working on his MBA at WashU as well. An avid dancer and music lover, Brandon is passionate about using music and dance to get people moving again.

Dr. Fatima Cody Stanford is an Obesity Medicine Physician scientist, Educator, and Policy Maker at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. She is a nationally and internationally sought after expert in obesity medicine who bridges the intersection medicine, public health policy, and disparities. She has five degrees, five academic fellowships, over 140 peer-reviewed articles, 55 academic awards, and has given over 300 lectures around the world. She is co-author of the book, Facing Overweight and Obesity. She is also the Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School.

    In this discussion, Drs. Tony and Fatima talk about the role and job of a doctor in academic medicine, how obesity can be understood as a disease, the bias surrounding obese people, the usage of harmful terms with reference to obese people, and the purpose/intended audience of the book, Facing Overweight and Obesity.
