10 Ways to Save the Day when a Mistake is made with a Customer Feb 22, 2023
    Show notes
    • Do whatever it takes to fix the problem. The future business you stand to make or lose from a customer almost always outweighs the cost of resolving his or her immediate crisis.
    • Take responsibility, no matter whose fault it was. You can take part of the blame, but never none of it. In almost every crisis there’s something you could’ve done that would’ve averted the problem. And even when there wasn’t, there’s nothing to gain from placing blame on the customer.
    • Act swiftly and effectively. Don’t just hope the problem will go away by itself. Sometimes people just want to vent their anger and be heard, and swift action will often put out the fire. Be a good ear, express concern for the customer’s situation, and then try to close off the issue. Most customers expect an “it’s not my fault” response. Instead of giving one, try a simple apology.
    • Step in and take charge. Don’t rely on someone else in your company to manage it competently. Everyone likes to deal with stand-up people, and customers are no different. True character surfaces under duress. Use the crisis to prove yourself.
    • Don’t assign blame to co-workers. Finger-pointing can only diminish you in the eyes of the customer. The customer is more interested in how the crisis will be resolved than in who caused the problem.
    • Stay calm. Deal with the crisis in ways that will make you friends, not enemies, with people within your own company. Maintain your poise and your sense of humor. It’ll usually help your customer do the same. Use the opportunity to grow closer to the customer by working together to find a solution. Your ability to keep your composure and lead will rule the day.
    • Be the point person. No matter how the solution to the problem plays itself out, make sure that you are the key to its resolution. Don’t refer the customer to people within your company who may add fire to the problem.
    • Communicate often. Stay in close touch with the client. Be reassuring if you can, and don’t make excuses or try to cover up. Once your customer becomes aware of the crisis, the worst thing you can do is not keep him or her fully informed. Understand that the customer’s boss and colleagues will probably be asking them questions. Help customers come up with answers.
    • Ask what the customer wants. Some customers know exactly what they want to solve the problem and will tell you what that is. If their requests are reasonable, the problem may pass quickly. The dangerous part of using this technique is they may ask for things that are unreasonable. So think about each customer carefully before asking this question, and try to predict what they may ask for.
    • Use post-problem bonding. If you can resolve the problem to everyone’s satisfaction, you may strengthen your relationship with the customer. The sunny afterglow of solving a tough problem together may be a time to talk about increasing business.

How Can Discomfort Propel Us Towards Our Goals? Feb 03, 2023
    Show notes

Think for a moment about the greatest accomplishments in your life. Chances are it doesn't take much scrutiny to see where discomfort had some hand in the outcome. Even the birth of a baby requires a certain degree of pain. But ask the woman who'd struggled for years to have a child if the pain was worth it, and you'd get a resounding 'yes!' Discomfort is, at its heart, a hard push away from where you are. It's the impetus that drives you toward change. Think about this: Discomfort Allows You to See New Possibilities When you’ve grown stagnant, stuck where you are, discomfort gives you an itchy feeling of wanting something different in your life. When you start looking around for what satisfies this itch, you discover new interests and ideas, things which in turn spark you back to life. Discomfort Helps You Discover Connections to What You Know Discomfort urges you to find solutions when a problem arises, tugging at halfformed ideas and hypotheses. Because this problem needs solving, this discomfort arises in the form of whispers in your mind of, "I can do that. I know how to solve this problem." Discomforts Sets Your Dreams on Fire At some point, it's not enough to make goals or imagine pretty dreams. Discomfort comes in the form of dissatisfaction, the constant questioning of "Why aren't I doing this yet?" It nudges you until you cannot be satisfied by anything less than trying out your ideas to see if you can make them happen. Discomfort Underscores Boredom A break, or even a long vacation, is a wonderful thing. At some point, though, discomfort makes even your favorite things feel dull and uninteresting. Why Most People Will Never Be Great LEADERS Jan 19, 2023
    Show notes

This episode references many successful businesses. While your business may not currently be able to offer perks like Google, or be as famous as Microsoft, the fundamentals are the same. You want to hire a team of people who are smart and work hard, but it’s also essential that they fit into your workplace culture. Some of this you will have to determine from your gut. That’s the part that can’t be analyzed or formulated from the outside. When you meet or interview someone, do you feel deep down that they will be an asset to your team? Your gut won’t always be right, but you’re the most qualified person to assess what your business needs. Once you’ve accumulated a strong team, remember to treat them well. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wayne-weathersby/support

Value Vs. Discount Jan 09, 2023
    Show notes

Let's keep in mind a few key rules: Price is never the real issue. Too often discounts are not addressing the root issue from a potential client. Does the client believe it is “too expensive” (shame on salesperson) or do they not “have the available funds” (budget issue)? Discounts must be earned. Too many times sales reps have conditioned people when to buy. The prospect knows if they wait until the end of the month or quarter sales reps may be desperate enough to discount their prices to win the sale. Desperation equals discount. If you want to know the future, bring it back to the present. I’ve encountered thousands of sales professionals who offer a discount to close the sale, however, one of the fundamental technical problems they failed to understand is what would happen IF they were indeed able to provide a reasonable discount. Stop discounting and start selling. Your sales team may be in a hurry to close the sale, which causes them to rush to get to the end. If they rush to the end discounting occurs more often. Slow down the front half to speed up the back half. Price vs value - show the value of your product. Are your products/services so repulsive that it requires a discount for people to buy? If your answer is no, what are you going to do to help your people hold firm on price? --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wayne-weathersby/support

Top 4 Reasons Why You Should Aspire to Inspire Others Jan 06, 2023
    Show notes

How many people do we come into contact with every day? Think about it. You talk to your co-workers or classmates. You brush up against how many strangers from the clerk in the grocery store to the barista who made you that cup of coffee? We spend time with friends, or we go out and do things with the expectation of meeting new people. It’s probably safe to say that in a week you've probably interacted with, at least on some level, a hundred people, most of which you barely talked to at all. But what if you were capable of taking those interactions deeper, to the level of something special. Unique. What if you could inspire someone else, and indeed make a difference in their lives? It's a powerful thought. Of course, you can’t change every interaction – it would be impossible to get anything done if you did. But when you stop to think about the value that you bring to the world, the things that you know and understand in ways that no one else does, there comes the point where you have to ask, what if you could share that with someone else? In short, what if you could be inspiring? It’s not as hard as you think. Here are four ways that will hopefully convince you that yes, you should “aspire to inspire.” 1. You can help someone realize their potential. Personal growth is a fascinating process. As you get to know people, you get to see them in their highs and lows. It’s where those lows occur where you can find an opportunity. A word of encouragement at the right time might be just what they need to labor on and overcome a challenge. 2. It’s life-changing – for both you and them. Personal growth culminates in those tremendous moments where you might be just the person to inspire someone to change their path entirely or to consider a course of action that they might not have before. 3. The world becomes a better place. OK, maybe this seems a little over the top but think about it for a minute. That person you inspired might go on to encourage someone else. Or may build something or do something amazing. Imagine now that all of that started with you. Like ripples in a pond after a rock is thrown into the water, you never know just how far that influence will spread, and what shore those ripples will eventually touch. 4. YOU change. Remember that you're not in it to see what you can get out of it. Inspiring others though has a way of rewarding you both personal fulfillment and growth. In the end, you’re not going to be the same person you were anymore. That kind of satisfaction comes with a unique special kind of happiness. Aspiring to Inspire is a fantastic process. Give it a try – you'll be amazed at where you end up. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wayne-weathersby/support

Why You Should Choose Inspiration Over Motivation Jan 04, 2023
    Show notes

Inspiration and motivation are not the same things. There is an argument that they are quite the opposite from one another. Inspiration is a strong desire to create, to reach out and make something or do something that never existed before. Motivation is a general willingness or the reason for an action. What’s the difference? It’s all in how we express it. Motivated people charge forward, not letting anyone stop them or interfere with their process. Inspiration, on the other hand, pulls other in your wake and drags them along. With motivation, you grab the vision and run with it. With inspiration, the idea grabs hold of you. Have you ever had an inspiration? You can probably remember every detail, the time it hit, the idea behind it, the way it felt. With motivation, that comes and goes and maybe you remember the project that came from it, but not in the fine detail that inspiration leaves on you. And that is probably the most significant difference. Motivation wears out. Often it runs out long before the project is over. Inspiration can last a lifetime and take you to new horizons you’d never thought of before. Motivation is like the coach that yells about “getting up,” “hitting harder,” “runningfaster.” It’s the push that we need to get over the initial slump or over that mid-point. Inspiration doesn’t need a push or a press. Inspiration is more like finding a new perspective, a fresh eye where you’ve never known existed. You cannot teach inspiration; it can’t be passed on from one person to another. Inspiration comes indirectly, stealing into our thoughts when we don’t expect it when we’re clear-headed and often concentrating on something else. Motivation is the drive to bring creation to reality, to finish the project, but inspiration is the birth of creativity. Inspiration can be a life-changing event that completely realigns your perspective on a permanent basis. Motivation is independent of passion. Motivation is often a replacement for passion; inspiration is passion at its most raw. Inspiration is an idea, a vision that takes hold and never let's go. People who are inspired are more likely to succeed, more likely to influence others. Being motivated to a task typically does not motivate another. Being inspired, on the other is contagious. Inspired people catch others in their passion and create inspiration in them. It’s easy to get caught up in a dream and then dream your vision, making inspiration the more valuable of the two. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/wayne-weathersby/support

How to Overcome with Grit and Resilience Dec 19, 2022
    Show notes

Everyone stumbles occasionally on the path to success, and that means you’ll need at some point to get back up again and back in the saddle. So, how can you find the strength to do this? The answer is by developing resilience and grit for growth. Unforeseen surprises and shocks are a fact of life, but if you can maintain your integrity and core purpose even in the face of those unpleasant experiences, you can overcome adversity most effectively. Grit for growth lies at the center of this. Grit for growth is a dynamic blend of confidence and motivation. These two things work together to empower you to regulate your emotions and reappraise the situations in which you find yourself. When you believe you can find a meaningful purpose in your life, believe you can influence your own environment A relentless drive requires two major components – grit and resilience. So, what are these two things and why are they so important? Research has shown that if you can be gritty and resilient – sticking with the things that matter to you and bouncing back if and when you fail – this is a vital component of your success, regardless of how much intelligence and talent you possess. This gives you the relentless drive you need to succeed, whatever adversity you face. What Is Grit? Put in basic terms, grit is perseverance and passion for meaningful, long-term goals. It’s the capacity to continue to persist at something you’re passionate about and to persevere even if obstacles get in your way.

How to Stay Productive with ADHD Dec 12, 2022
    Show notes

Every day, we are bombarded with numerous distractions, ranging from Zoom meetings that interrupt our work to a constant barrage of social media updates. By the end of the day, you may feel as if you've accomplished nothing and that your to-do list is now longer than it was at the start of the day. With all of these distractions and disruptions, it can be difficult to focus and complete tasks. And instead of being productive, you may feel disorganized and scattered. Completing a task can seem overwhelming or even impossible if you have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). There are, however, methods to help you stay focused and get things done. Take a look at your to-do list. Think about what will feel most comfortable. Then consider what will be the most difficult. Start with something that will feel simple, settle into a rhythm, and then gradually introduce the challenging material. Some people might prefer to decide which of their top three priorities to work on first. In this manner, the most crucial tasks are already finished, regardless of how the rest of the day goes. Make sure to focus on the tasks that make you feel the most accomplished first, whether you start out easy or hard. You'll have the drive to continue if you do that.
