Growing up in Saudi Arabia as a Pakistani, who now resides in Canada, Eiynah brings a global perspective to discussions about religion, politics, culture & sexuality – through the lens of a progressive ex-muslim immigrant. This podcast often focuses on unpacking various forms of extremism, particularly types that are less overt and masquerading as ‘intellectual’. Eiynah has a specific interest in covering online scenes like New Atheism and the Intellectual Dark Web.

    Episode 42 - Christmas in Saudi Dec 24, 2017
    Show notes

Hi all! Here’s a short Xmas msg from me, sharing some thoughts and memories from my experiences with Christmas in Saudi Arabia. Now of course not everyone living in Saudi had these experiences. There are many bubbles of existence there, I was fortunate to have access to a western secular education. Those of Muslim background who did not, obviously experienced Christmas differently or barely registered it’s existence…as it wasn’t really part of local Saudi life - even the mere acknowledgement of other religions is discouraged there. ---If you enjoyed this kind of thing, do let me know and I’ll try to share personal stories and experiences more often. Happy holidays & Hail Satan

This Episode Thomas Smith joins me to discuss wth happened at Secular conference Mythicist Milwaukee, where he was invited to interview Youtuber Sargon of Akkad. If you've been following the drama, then you know how divisive and controversial it's been. It's a boiling-over of some underlying problems we've been seeing in movement atheism for a while. The Rightward shift of Islam Critics - A speech for BC Humanist Association. Oct 12, 2017
    Show notes

If you're able to watch this on YouTube I'd recommend that, since with visual aids it's so much better : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej-biPgGMzEBut if not, the audio works too :) ***I did a speech via Skype over in BC a couple of weeks ago, a big thanks to them for having me. I am posting it on my podcast with their permission. This talk is based on a blog post I did recently: http://nicemangos.blogspot.ca/2017/09/forbidden-intersectionality-liberal-ex.html and an interview I did with Cracked http://www.cracked.com/personal-experiences-2524-im-liberal-ex-muslim-this-my-life.htmlI could just take the easy, rewarding route and be the anti-sjw, friend of RW ex Muslim...but those gosh darn principles, stop me from it :/ So...We had a pretty fiery Q&A session after the talk....which ended up sort of being a good example of my frustrations with both the ex-muslim movement and atheist/skeptic movement in general right now. Unfortunately the call kept cutting during the Q&A so some questions weren't recorded - and some of my responses weren't either (I can tell you though that I do not agree with the statement that Christina H. Sommers is a great feminist, i didn't catch the other name). But the two most interesting and angriest Qs were luckily recorded. I think they are useful to illustrate the very lack of nuance on this topic I was lamenting throughout the speech. Episode 37 - Antifa & The Far Right in Canada Sep 18, 2017
    Show notes

I chat with Journalist Evan Balgord (@ebalgord) who covers the Canadian far-right and antifa. He’s been on the ground for a lot of the rallies and provides some very interesting insights. The rising far right in Canada is not covered enough in my opinion, especially as Canada seems to be discussed in this idealistic way in comparison to Trump Country. Of course, things are better in Canada and racial tensions are not as high as the US. But a lot of key far-right, alt-right, alt-lite figures are indeed from here (Lauren Southern, Stefan Molyneux, Gavin McInnes to name a few) - something to keep in mind. We talk anti-Muslim movements, the controversial and often misunderstood M103, plausible deniability as a far-right tactic, and some ways in which also the left misses the mark on addressing Islam. Here is Evan’s wonderful episode for Canadaland on The Rise of the Right: http://www.canadalandshow.com/podcast/the-rise-of-the-right/ We also discuss hypocrisy in the ‘free speech movement’, the SPLC lawsuit. Not everyone will agree but here are some links regarding my views on that:https://twitter.com/NiceMangos/status/909205261650399237I found this to be a good piece: https://www.popehat.com/2017/06/29/how-the-southern-poverty-law-center-enraged-nominal-conservatives-into-betraying-free-speech-values/And this part of the write up was especially concerning: https://twitter.com/21logician/status/885998178008477696More free speech hypocrisy re ACLU https://twitter.com/RubinReport/status/884941607740375040——Some links we discuss: Shooting at Charlottesville https://gizmodo.com/new-video-shows-man-shooting-gun-near-crowd-of-counter-1798463559Texas mosque fake story http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-trending-41147572BLM escorting Nazis: https://twitter.com/qwrrty/status/898999067673378817https://twitter.com/qwrrty/status/898998907375464448https://twitter.com/qwrrty/status/898998824760487936https://twitter.com/qwrrty/status/898999471396212736If you enjoy the show, please consider supporting via Patreon. Show notes

This episode, historian @MikeStuchbery_ joins me to discuss his epic factual-Twitter-smackdown of Paul Joseph Watson. You know PJW right? The guy from Infowars who got upset over a BBC short that depicted a black guy in Roman Britain. We talk about how alt right/lite types twist history to suit their agendas, how they influence young minds, and what role historians can play to set the record straight.
