Decibel Geek 435: The Best and Worst of 70's Judas Priest Jan 02, 2021
    Show notes

We're closing out 2020 with special guest Julian Gill as we talk The Best and Worst of 70's Judas Priest! The Metal God, Rob Halford, and his band of brothers started kicking our asses all the way back in 1974 and continue to do so today. While the vast majority of their catalog is considered essential, the first 5 albums hold a special place in our hearts.

In this week's episode we discuss our thoughts on Rocka Rolla (1974), Sad Wings of Destiny (1976), Sin after Sin (1977), Stained Class (1978), and Killing Machine / Hellbent for Leather (1978). These albums would influence countless musicians around the world and help foster the arrival of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal and, later, Thrash Metal. Their importance can't be understated.

Picking a Best & Worst track on each of these albums was no small feat and there were some definite differences of opinion in this discussion. We'd love to hear YOUR picks in the comments section below! We thank the awesome Julian Gill for joining us this week and hope you will SHARE with a friend!

Performance Anxiety: Side Projects - In Defense Of Hair Metal Jan 01, 2021
    Show notes

Welcome to a very special episode of Performance Anxiety. Today we tackle a very sensitive subject: The defense of hair metal. No other podcast will touch this volatile topic. But we here at Performance Anxiety, a proud member of the Pantheon Podcast Network, are willing to traverse the minefield that is hair metal. We tangle with topics like the best hair metal for the gym; What hair metal band will clear out a wedding; and is there a new batch of hair metal bands emerging? But we start the entire show off by teasing out a top three list of hair metal bands from our panel of experts: Jason Tompson of Vast Robot Armies, Ryan Smith of Ryan & Pony and Soul Asylum, and Mike Hsu of 100FM The Pike in Worcester, Mass & the Long May You Young podcast on the Pantheon Podcast Network. Follow all of us on social media (you’re obviously intelligent enough to find the accounts), & think about supporting us at ko-fi.com/performanceanxiety. There’s no gentle way to start this conversation, so let’s rip off the band-aid In Defense of Hair Metal!

The Hook Rocks! No Live Concerts In 2020 - Let's Discuss Our Favorite Live Albums! Dec 31, 2020
    Show notes

The pandemic of 2020 has paused live music and its return is still in question. For live music lovers this has been traumatic. Gone is the adrenaline rush one gets when a band hits the stage curing the ache of anticipation. Gone is the synergy of the crowd singing along to a song with fists in the air. We wait for its return. Many of us have turned to live albums in our collection to feed the absence of those moments that captured our imagination and transcended time. Rob In The Hood returns to the podcast to discuss our favorite live recordings and relive the memories of the live show. Please enjoy the episode!
