Ep 112: The Breathwork Before The Breakthrough with Ashley Neese Nov 16, 2020
    Show notes

This week’s episode gifts the listener a front row seat to Ashley Neese, mother, author, and healer. There is something so authentic about Ashley. From the moment we signed onto Zoom (which can be a hard way to read people), I felt safe and inspired to truly talk about life wholeheartedly. Today’s episode will teach you how breathing can close the loop on your trauma, how to get back ‘into your body’ after years of wanting out, and knowing when life needs you to ‘breathe it out.’ The best part? Ashley guides us all through a 10-minute breathwork practice to ground our senses. Never a better time. Never a better human to take us there. Tune in and get back to your senses within the hour.

Ep. 111: The Power of Vulnerability: Annie Tevelin on Pull It Together Nov 09, 2020
    Show notes

Alex Matteo is the host of the podcast Pull It Together, and she’s managed to make her podcast incredibly relatable. When you listen, you feel a part of the conversation, you feel seen, you feel heard, and you feel like you matter. And that’s in no small part due to Alex’s ability to summon great conversation, which is why I knew I had to bring it to all of you. In her interview with me, we dive into boundaries, intuition, boyfriends who make great lessons and divorces who make even better ones. It’s about waiting for the invitation so that we can preserve what little energy we have left at the end of a long day.

Ep. 110: The Value and Void of Human Connection with Dr. Julie Holland Nov 02, 2020
    Show notes

There’s a shift happening in the world around us. Growing up in the 90’s, creating your own fun was often the only option for staying sane. You would ride your bike until it was dark out, hold front yard fairs, or play Monopoly at the kitchen table. Duck Hunt and MTV never came at the expense of IRL connection. But all of that is changing. Many of us have had to mourn the memories of the best moments of our life, only to end up recognizing that those things aren’t gone. They can both live together if we so choose. To talk about how social media and technology do not have to be the death of human interaction, but instead can be a way to give us even more avenues to connect, is Dr. Julie Holland. She believes that now, more than ever before, communities are suffering from disconnection—and this started long before social distancing. In her paradigm-shifting book “Good Chemistry,” she reveals how we can turn on and tune into the brain chemistry that fosters connection and tamp down the fight-or-flight mode that derails sleep, metabolism, libido, and more. Listening to her commentary, you may find the courage to ask yourself some hard questions about what your life is about and what you want to feel.

Two years ago, Jolene Hart shared her story of Lyme disease with the public and her audience of readers. As she gained more meaningful relationships with her readers and with others in the beauty and wellness community, her work became more personal and less private. Ep. 107: Time Traps and the Time Poverty Epidemic with Ashley Whillans Oct 12, 2020
    Show notes

I once overheard someone at a restaurant say, “The currency of our time is time.” It got me thinking. How could something that we all have when we wake up be so easily manipulated, taken for granted, or given away? Whether it’s because we always believe there will be more of it or because we have a hard time releasing ourselves of time traps, we often give our time away frivolously. When I heard of the work Ashley Whillians was doing to reel in their time and extract true joy from their life, I had to talk to her. She’s the author of “Time Smart: How to Reclaim Your Time and Live a Happier Life,” an assistant professor at the Harvard Business School, and a leading scholar in the time and happiness research field. She shares how to be deliberate and intentional with our time and some of the strategies we can use to be more time smart. Trust me, listening to her is time well spent.

Ep. 106: The Emotional Stages of Moving with Annie Tevelin Oct 06, 2020
    Show notes

For those of you who’ve followed along, it’s been four weeks since I moved to Boise, Idaho. In that time I’ve been on the receiving end of several DMs, texts, and emails asking: Is it worth it? Regardless of whether you decide to make a big decision such as moving, it is always going to be coupled with reconciliation, mourning, grief, and fear. I’ve lived in LA for 17, and for a number of reasons I have known for a while that I was ready to move. If you’re not inspired or happy where you are, there’s nothing wrong with considering a move. Let’s talk through the emotional rollercoaster that is deciding to move, managing the logistics of it all, and settling in in your new home.

Ep. 105: It All Started With A Pimple with Orly Shani and Brandi Milloy Sep 28, 2020
    Show notes

Eight months ago, I had the fortune to be interviewed by two women I hold in very high regard: Orly Shani and Brandi Milloy, the dynamic duo behind the MOMHOOD podcast. At the time, my son was five months old. This interview shares the challenges of owning a business and—in full disclosure—my deepest feelings about being an entrepreneur and balancing that workload alongside motherhood. Life dramatically changes when you have a child, and for me, those changes brought on a yearning for simplicity and a cure to the cycle of over productivity. This was the beginning of the whisper that led me out of the chaos and complexity of my life that I brought upon myself. This interview captures the considerations and reconciliations, and gave me a lot to think about in its wake. I hope this episode gives you the courage to ask the hard questions, all while celebrating the awareness that led to asking those questions in the first place.

Ep. 104: Letting Selfcare Light The Way with Danika Brysha Sep 21, 2020
    Show notes

The road to sorting our shit out is paved with discipline and abandon, and that’s seen clearly in Danika Brysha. In living through some of the worst things people can experience, she’s found her own personal footprint. She’s the co-founder and lead guide at Self-Care Society, co-founder and CEO of Model Meals, creator of the Brunch Series wellness events and the Self-Care Checklist, and a body-positive fashion model at IMG Models. Her mission, in a nutshell, is to help others to live the fullest and most fulfilling life possible. She believes deeply in the power of self-care systems to stay accountable and consistent, and that in order to reach our dreams and care for others, we have to start with ourselves. Through her journey of recovery from food and body issues, excessive alcohol and drug use, deep debt, and an overall lack of confidence and purpose, Danika uses her own experience to help others transform and thrive.

Ep. 103: Living Beyond Mom Rage with Minna Dubin Sep 14, 2020
    Show notes

If there were ever a sentence and sentiment for all mothers of infant, toddler, or school-aged children to rally behind amidst a global pandemic, it would be “I’m going to physically explode.” That also happens to be the headline of an article written by Minna Dubin for the New York Times parenting newsletter, a raw, unapologetic look into the world of mom rage. With coronavirus concerns, stay at home orders, financial instability, and mounting civil unrest, it’s no wonder that mothers are experiencing intensified anger. This is a relentless time to be a mother, let alone a working mother. What was already a full plate has suddenly become plateless — it is entirely unquantifiable. With the help of Bay Area writer, performer, and public artist Minna Dubin, we will take a look into the eye of rage.
