Ep. 102: Your Ideas Are Alive with Suzy Batiz Sep 07, 2020
    Show notes

Transformational. Visionary. Pattern breaking. This is Suzy Batiz, energetic explorer, CEO of supernatural and Poo~Pourri, the leading natural bathroom odor company in my eyes. She’s a self-taught entrepreneur, and transformation is a common thread that runs through both her companies and her life, whether transferring poop into a pleasant-smelling experience or the household cleaning industry from toxicity to aromatherapeutic magic. She’s a revolutionary explorer of infinite potential in the playground of life who loves to inspire others and bring them along for the ride. That’s not to say she hasn’t seen her share of low points—she’s experienced poverty, domestic and sexual abuse, depression, two bankruptcies, and a suicide attempt— which ultimately led to what she calls “the luxury of losing everything.” After harnessing the power of intuition, she built her businesses from the ground up without ever taking a dollar from outside investment. She’s turned alive ideas into a $500 million-plus empire. You already have everything inside of you to make your dreams come true, and Suzy is passionate about sharing this knowledge and power with others.

Ep. 101: Parenting Gets Inappropriate with Meredith Masony Aug 31, 2020
    Show notes

Meredith Masony is a triple-threat: a blogger, author, and mom who has built a loyal fan base across her various social media platforms by sharing insightful and hilarious blogs, videos, podcasts, books, and stand-up. When looking at life through the lens of raising children and how best to mother, you’re probably on the receiving end of many seemingly-inappropriate circumstances—whether to breastfeed or use formula; whether to co-sleep or crib it; whether to enlist the RIE method or attachment parenting. The list goes on. What one person thinks is appropriate could be entirely different from what someone else thinks, and this is where Meredith shows her prowess by keeping it extremely real. Meredith founded her blog, That’s Inappropriate, to chronicle her chaotic days as a working mom, child wrangler, and busy wife. It has budded into a community of nearly 3 million parents brought together by their belief that parenting and marriage do not have to be perfect. It’s her humorous understanding of life and motherhood that gives Meredith the X-factor to help parents thrive instead of just survive.

Ep. 100: Life, Liberty, & the Pursuit of Happiness Aug 25, 2020
    Show notes

Here we are at Episode 100! When I set out to start a podcast, I knew it was going to be a big undertaking—but I also knew we’d get here someday.

When you talk to people about their skin, you hear about a lot more than just their skin. You hear about insecurities, the backstory, the things that lead up to how they are feeling. Suddenly, you’re brought the perspective of what brought people to this journey in the first place. And the longer you talk to people about their skin, the more you realize you’re just on the other end of a conversation about the human experience. I’ve had founders on the show, people who have had tragic accidents, some who have come back from cancer, and people with lessons on how to make living this life easier and more joyful. As a result of that, I have changed—and I hope you have as well.

Ep. 98: The Power Of A Glass Half Full with Josh Rosebrook Aug 03, 2020
    Show notes

At the beginning of the pandemic, Josh Rosebrook and I had a conversation together not knowing what the future was going to look like. Five months later, we are sitting together, still socially distancing, for a stream-of-thought conversation around everything that’s on our minds. We’re all having some good days, some hard days, and we’re trying to make sense of it all. Today is about trying to talk through some of the gray and complexity and to eventually arrive at a place of true positivity and a greater sense of self with the help of Josh. We touch on how to feel grateful during these strange times, finding time for self-care, and Josh even shares some of his favorite cooking tips. This conversation will hopefully leave you all feeling stronger, more excited, and less afraid.

Ep. 97: From Breakdown to Breakthrough with Matthew Emerzian Jul 27, 2020
    Show notes

We are no stranger to the rags-to-riches story on Off The Record. The triumphant tale, the “started at the bottom, now we’re here” epic—in other words, a journey of ups and downs that eventually lands in a place much more sound than where it started. But sometimes, you hear one of these stories that just sticks out and forces you to re-examine the road that got you to the moment you find yourself in today. That’s the case with Matthew Emerzian’s story. He seemingly had everything: A great job in the music industry, a booming social life in Los Angeles, and was quite literally keeping up with the Kardashians. Then, one morning, as he got out of bed, he realized something was immediately wrong. He thought he was having a heart attack, but a trip to the doctors office diagnosed him with clinical depression. He realized he had to make meaningful change in his life, and he began to look beyond himself to create a more meaningful existence. This led to the founding of a non-profit organization Every Monday Matters that helps people and organizations understand why they matter. We all matter, it’s just a matter of recognizing why.

Ep. 96: The Funny Thing About Fear with Annie Tevelin Jul 20, 2020
    Show notes

This week, I talk all about fear, freedom, and the two stray dogs that opened up Pandora's Box. Is it possible that the things we fear the most can be the one thing that sets us free? Is it also possible that my car got broken into since the last podcast I recorded? The answer: YES. Listen in as I talk about what to do with the fear that overcomes us, unconsciously holds us back, and reminds us that we're alive.

Ep. 94: Building A Bigger Picture Through Beauty with Kelly Atterton Jul 06, 2020
    Show notes

If I can think of one person who struck a chord with me in the early days of SkinOwl, it would be today’s guest, Kelly Atterton. A beauty editor at Allure would strike a chord with anyone, but it wasn’t her title that did it — it was a je ne sais quoi that I can’t quite put into words but that I’m sure will show through in this interview. If you’re in the beauty game, chances are you’ve heard of her even if you haven’t been in contact with her. The thing about Kelly Atterton is that she is not this or that, but the sum of her experiences. Everything she knows and imparts in the world is the direct result of everything she’s experienced. She radiates a sense of wholeness that is beautiful, empowering, and inspiring. Listen in as Kelly and I discuss everything from lipstick to politics to social media and life amidst a pandemic in today’s tell-all episode.

In life — if we’re lucky enough — we, as humans, cross paths with people who put us in a perpetual state of awe. People who have such exponential levels of ambition, intelligence, hunger for change, truth, and bandwidth that it’s hard to believe they actually exist. Consider yourselves fortunate to meet one of those people today. Ep. 92. Bailing to Boise with Annie Tevelin Jun 22, 2020
    Show notes

Today’s podcast marks the end of an era. I’m leaving Los Angeles and bailing to Boise, Idaho! See how an innocent road trip to Idaho turned into buying a plot of land on our final day. This episode illustrates how intuition, a dog named ‘Charlie’ and embracing adventure can beckon life’s greatest plot twist. I loved recording today’s episode, so much so that I used every sound effect on my podcast machine (again). Today tells the story of how I decided on Boise, Idaho as my next hometown and how ‘risk’ feels scary but ‘right’ feels ‘intuitive.’ This is a must-listen for anyone looking to shake things up and find clarity in your ‘next move.’
